The Anfield Wrap

All this week we'll be asking as many of our contributors as possible to review the 17/18 season as a whole. On this occasion we have Rob Gutmann, Adam Smith, Fuad Hasan, Craig Hannan and John Gibbons giving their thoughts on what went right for Liverpool and what the team and manager could have done better. Every week The Anfield Wrap takes a long look at Liverpool's weekend game and wonders about the approach from The Reds and their opponents. This week though we are looking ahead, imagining we are in the shoes of Jurgen Klopp and Zinedine Zidane and wondering what the pair will be contemplating before this Champions League Final. Klopp has fewer choices; his side plays in his image and he has been loathe to change set up through the season. Zidane has selection headaches but also has selection opportunities. This is a game which looks on paper to demonstrate the Review's consistent maxim that your greatest strengths can be your greatest weaknesses. We discuss that in the context of both sides set ups and focus on Modric and Kroos. Sean Rogers and Paul Cope join Neil Atkinson to be excited about everything in store for us on Saturday night. Liverpool crashed to defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and The Anfield Wrap in association with Redsbet are picking the bones out of that result and the wider knock on effects for Champions League qualification this season and beyond. In the end the game was decided by the only goal but Chelsea were able to keep Liverpool at bay. The Reds couldn't make their midfield break the lines and found themselves toiling. The context is everywhere - Liverpool were back from Rome while Chelsea had the week to prepare but Liverpool were thwarted on the pitch. The result also emphasised weakenesses in Liverpool's squad at every level and we have a conversation about Liverpool's likely transfer plans. Liverpool beat Roma in the first leg, but they finished the job on Wednesday. Daniel Austin and Fuad Hasan were both there and they describe what it was like to see Liverpool win in the Eternal City. Now we find ourselves off to Kiev with a small allocation and with a date against Real Madrid for the biggest prize in club football. What can be said about this Liverpool side which hasn't been already? We work though Wednesday and a season which could bear the biggest prize of them all. The Anfield Wrap this week focusses on three main areas:  Liverpool 0 Stoke City 0  Steven Gerrard going to Glasgow Rangers  Looking ahead to the Champions League Semi Final against AS Roma.  Stoke City was a frustrating affair defined by mistakes from the referee and Liverpool in front of goal.
