Some people online called me an anime tourist, so I travelled to Japan and became one. For context: Anime Tourist- in the way that people on twitter (X) use it - is meant to imply I'm not a true anime fan because they believe I'm trying to impose my values on a medium that comes from a different culture. The 2000s American anime-watching experience is unmatched. With the controversial but essential program of 4kids on WB, the iconic Toonami and Adult Swim blocks on Cartoon Network, and the rise of early pirating on YouTube and Crunchyroll. Growing up as an anime fan in this era was a strangely beautiful time.
