The Art Investor Podcast hosts emerging SA artists over long-form in-person chats about their lives, influences, and 5 to 10 pieces they bring to the table to discuss, with top-notch audio quality, a couple drinks and (usually) hilarious consequences. Beware: horn-rimmed glasses, the creative process, an artful peppering of swear words, tangents. The idea, is that you follow along @the_art_investor on Instagram at your own pace as we discuss the pieces. The works are numbered, and as we talk we'll keep you abreast of which we are currently on. Elsewise if you'd prefer sitting upright, there is a YouTube slideshow (with audio) for every episode. See you in the comments!

EP.8 Samurai Farai

Episode 8 is with Samurai Farai! I've wanted to have him on the pod ever since the very beginning. Join us for an in-depth look at where he came from and where he's going... and what makes him tick. Beware: unfinished artwork, carburetors, perfectionism and how to combat it, Samurai Jack, gun imagery, Basquiat, antimatter.  Remember to follow along on instagram @the_art_investor from 1:00:40 where we discuss the pieces! Also in this episode's intro I talk about how and why this podcast was started and the pieces I've bought because of it. In other news, podstatus.com says that we're #2 in South Africa in the visual arts category and #78 in the UK. Who knew.

EP.7 Fanie Buys

EP.6 Oda Tungodden

Episode 6 is with Oda Tungodden. We sit down in Oda's studio for a long, in-depth discussion about art and being an artist, and then go on to discuss some of her her pieces, right up to what she's working on now. Prerequisites: Klimt, Delacroix, Humour, Gin (and tonic if you really need it). Around 47:50 we start discussing the pieces. We won't come hunt you down if you skip straight to them, but be sure to open up our Instagram @the_art_investor and follow along with the numbered pieces as we chat through them.

EP.5 Michael Beckurts

Episode 5 is with Michael Beckurts. We recorded this episode in The Test Kitchen surrounded by some of Michael’s pieces that are currently on show there. Join us for an in-depth exploration of Mike’s background and work. Beware: the expressionist bug, crocodile cramps, the test kitchen work ethic, and tangents.  As with every episode, the second section is where the artist brings 5 to 10 pieces to talk us through. This happens at 29:50 mins in this episode and the idea is that you leave the discussion playing in the background and follow along on Instagram @the_art_investor with the numbered pieces. Or else if you’d prefer, there always a slideshow on YouTube.

EP.4 Paul Wallington

Follow along on Instagram @the_art_investor as we chat through the pieces. Paul Wallington lives & works in Cape Town, South Africa. In this episode we sit in his studio and chat about his stint at Michaelis, his background, making frames, Instagram, worldly advice, his influences and more. Then about halfway through we go through 10 of his paintings, discussing them in detail.  In every episode of this podcast we will be referring to numbered pieces as we talk. The idea is that you follow along on Instagram at your own pace @the_art_investor, or else watch the ScreenCast on YouTube.  This is a podcast designed not to update you on art market news or give you tips on how to make a profit trading art, but rather to provide a platform to emerging artists to reach an audience of fans and potential future buyers in an intimate meaningful way. Like buying shares in a company early on, buying art is like owning a small piece of that artists future success and providing them working capital to make more. The format is a long-form discussion with the artist where we cover their history or early influences, their inspiration and education and their process, and then in the second section, to have the artist talk us through (in what ever level of detail they choose), 5 to 10 of their works. The idea for this section is that you leave this podcast playing in the background while you go to the_art_investor Instagram page and follow along with the numbered images we will refer to as we talk.  Going off on tangents is really fun too.. Once we’re done with the numbered pieces, each episode ends with a series of rapid-fire questions.
