For this episode of the Basement Programmer Podcast, I head back to Perth, Western Australia, to catch up with my long-time friend Pete Johns. We talk about his career in tech has changed and evolved over the past 20 years, the impact of social media, and moving countries. We also talk a little about the importance of connecting with your customers.

In this episode, I talk to AWS's Head of digital native solutions architecture for the east coast, Andrea Sabet. Andrea and I have been friends since she started at AWS as a Solutions Architect. We talk about what it means to be "Digital Native" as well as some of Andrea's other activities like She Builds the Women in Cloud summit coming up in New York, and one of my favorite topics Hour of Code.

AWS Lambda has been one of my favorite services since my early days working with AWS. Some recent releases are making Lambda even more accessible, and easier to program for more and more people. In this episode we look at four different methods you can use to create Infrastructure as Code, and how to choose one that meets your needs. We will look at Cloud Formation, Chalice, Serverless Application Model (SAM) and the Cloud Development Kit (CDK). Each of these options has there own benefits and limitations, and each one fits its own use case. Choosing the one that is right for your project can make a big difference in the long run.  

In this session I give some advice on how to choose the right AWS Service to hose a micro service. We look at different factors that can drive your decision, and talk about how to guide your decision.
