BWI Live: Penn State Football Midseason Report Card

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD The Penn State Nittany Lions football team is 6-0 and in the middle of it's second bye week of the 2024 season. It's a good time to have a bye, too, says head coach James Franklin. Now that the team is at the halfway point of the regular season, we're handing out midseason grades for the entire team. Join the BWI Live Show today at 10 a.m. to give your thoughts on how each position group is performing, where they can stand to improve, or why they're getting top marks.  The best time to join the BWI YouTube Channel is right now! Subscribe for free and enable notifications so you know when we go live, share breaking news, or post featured content. Your home for Penn State Football is Blue White Illustrated! Penn State practice update The team hosted its weekly media session on Tuesday of its second bye week, and Blue White Illustrated was there to observe and report. On today's show, we discuss the nature of this week's practice and why Penn State eased up on the pace this week compared to previous bye weeks.   Next, we'll discuss what Penn State head coach James Franklin said after practice. While it's his least favorite topic, Franklin discussed injuries and the situation at punter return with Kaden Saunders and Zion Tracy. Also, after a big game, quarterback Drew Allar was a significant topic Tuesday night. Franklin gave the entire quarterback operation credit for the success.    "I think [QB Coach] Danny's [O'Brien] done a really good job of spending time and building trust and having kind of a demeanor on the sideline that I think has been really good for him as well. And then [offensive coordinator] Andy [Kotelnicki] is doing a really good job of playing to Drew's strengths as well as playing to our personnel strengths. I think it's a combination of all those things." Midseason report card Today's show topic is also derived from Franklin's comments last night. He felt that the bye week after the USC game was a very good time in the season and under the right circumstances.  "I just think when you talk about the middle of the season, game six, it's a good point to have a bye. Sometimes you get a bye really early, sometimes you get a bye late, and not the best position for the bye to land, but this is at a good point. And then, obviously coming off a win, I'd probably feel very different if we hadn't come off a win." So, we'll take the midseason point as an opportunity to evaluate the team's performance so far with position-by-position grades. Want to give your grades? Join the conversation in the comments section, or discuss on the Blue White Illustrated message board.  #PennState  #NittanyLions   JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Get the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24Preview Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters:  https://bluewhiteonline.com  Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Penn State Football Midseason Report Card

You'll get notifications of our latest news, videos, and more!  Penn State practice preview  Penn State's bye week changes the weekly schedule slightly, so the Nittany Lions will open practice to the media on Tuesday night instead of its weekly Wednesday showcase. What are we expecting to see and hear tonight? We'll preview the bye week events to kick off the show.  Next, we'll get into the latest and hottest Penn State recruiting news from this past weekend. The team secured the commitment of Johnson, a Louisville commit that the team targeted early in the recruiting process but ultimately lost in June. Despite that close battle, the Nittany Lions won out this week in flipping the three-star defensive back. We'll discuss the team's recruiting efforts with Fitz and what he makes of the situation.  USC Recap The team traveled to the West Coast and did what few East Coast and Midwest Big Ten teams have done so far this year: win. What went into the victory? What are the biggest takeaways from the offensive and defensive performances? We'll discuss those topics, plus your comments during our recap of Penn State's win over USC from Saturday.  One of the biggest questions coming out of the game is about the mentality and potential of this team. Was that game a turning point for the Nittany Lions that can propel them to unseen heights under head coach James Franklin? We'll tackle that topic.  BWI Mailbag Finally, we'll dig into your questions and thoughts on the weekly BWI Mailbag. We've collected questions from the Blue White Illustrated message board to feature on the show, but your questions are always welcome in the live chat! Today, we'll discuss the most improved players this season, the effect that sideline technology has on the team's in-game adjustments, and more! Join us to add your thoughts! Penn State vs. USC Postgame Show: A Dramatic win in Los Angeles

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD It was one of the most dramatic games of the last several seasons, but Penn State Football pulled out an overtime win over the USC Trojans on the road, 33-30. Join the LaBatt Postgame Show tp discuss the win and your thought about how the team played in the back-and-forth affair.  Blue White Illustrated publisher Sean Fitz joins us for the first time this year to discuss what he saw and the important players, moments, and implications of the win. If you haven't yet, subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel so you don't miss any of our great postgame content.  Penn State is still a second half team It was another sleepy start to the game for the Nittany Lions. Penn State got out to a slow start in the first half, managing just six points in the first two quarters while allowing 20 through the first two frames But not all slow starts are the same.  The team marched down the field on the opening drive, but a penalty on fourth and goal negated a Tyler Warren touchdown. Later, the team drove down into the red zone again but failed to punch the ball into the end zone.  Defensively, Penn state failed to keep a lid on the big plays from USC early on. Specifically, the Penn State run defense was leaky, allowing 147 rushing yards in the first half. That mark included a 75-yard end-around for a touchdown to start off the scoring for USC.  However, the defense executed their usual second-half adjustments, allowing just three yards in the third quarter.  Allar fights through adversity  It was a breakout performance among a season of standout performances for Warren. The Penn State tight end saw the ball early and often in the matchup with USC, finishing the game with 17 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown. Most impressivley, 151 of those yards came after the catch.  However, the most impressive performance of the night may have come from quarterback Drew Allar. The third-year quarterback threw two interceptions during the game, but fought back to command a drive of the ages for the Penn State offense. Down by seven points with just six minutes left in the game, Allar and his offense went nine plays for 75 yards, including two fourth-down conversions and a 14-yard touchdown strike to Nick Singleton to cap off the performance.  After two stops by the defense to end regulation and then force a missed field goal in overtime, Penn State's Ryan Barker kicked the winning field goal.  #PennState  #NittanyLions   JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Get the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24Preview Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters:  https://bluewhiteonline.com  Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

Penn State vs. UCLA Postgame Show: Grinding out a win

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD Penn State football defeated UCLA but didn't blow out the Bruins, who came into the game as 28-point underdogs in the game. Enable notificatinos so you know when we go live, drop vidoes and press conferences.  Penn State vs. UCLA  The Nittany Lions once again got out to a slow start, failing to score a touchdown in the first quarter and only 14 points before halftime. However, the offense picked things up after that, scoring on its next four possesions before going three-and-out to start the fourth quarter.  Penn State quarterback Drew Allar started out euqally slow, going 2-4 to start the game before getting hot and finishing the firs thalf 10-14 for 129 yards. When Allar got looks he liked during the game, he attacked downfield, primarily to slot receiver Liam Clifford. The veteran was this week's receiver of the moment, with three catches for 107 yards.  The team was also without top game-breaker Nick Singleton. In his absence, Kaytron Allen carried the load, rushing 21 times for 78 yards. Freshman Quinton Martin showed off some of his potent skills, with three catches for 18 yards and several strong runs with mutiple broken tackles.  Penn State defense dominates the third quarter again Once agian the Penn State defense, like it's offense started slow, giving up a six play drive that took up six minutes of the first quarter, but ended on a UCLA failed fourth down attempt.  However, the defense allowed the offense to race ahead in the middle of the game, as they typcially do this season. UCLA gained -9 yards in the third quarter and only manged nine plays on the way to the loss.  It was a big game for two players who've struggled recently. Safety Zakee Wheatley finished the game with seven tackles and Tony Rojas finished with eight.  What was your favorite moment of the game? Are you still concerned with the way the team plays to start? Join the BWI Live Postgame show and drop your comments in the cat. Penn State Wrestling Show: New Lineup Details Emerge for 2024 Season

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD A new Penn State wrestling show from Blue-White Illustrated is now live! The defending NCAA champs now sit roughly a month away from kicking off the 2024-2025 season. In the first episode of October, host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel share the latest on the Nittany Lions as they wait to take the mat. The conversation starts with recruiting. Penn State hosted Class of 2025 star Marcus Blaze last weekend, which included a stop at Beaver Stadium to see the football team take on Illinois in primetime. The Perrysburg, Ohio native has not said much publically about his recruitment. We know that his top group consists of Michigan, Cornell, Ohio State, Purdue, and Iowa. A decision from the nation's No. 1 138-pound wrestler and No. 2 pound-for-pound grappler per MatScouts could come at any moment. Pickel and Carr discuss that and also Class of 2026 standout Bo Bassett. He put out his list of official visits this week. One of his stops will be in State College. Here's his current schedule: More: Bo Bassett sets recruiting timeline, official visits Pickel and Carr discuss Bassett's recruitment and when a decisions could be made before moving on to the latest on the Lions' lineup. Six members of head coach Cael Sanderson's team will compete in next month's NWCA All-Star Classic? What do the matchups tell us about how Sanderson could fill out his lineup this winter?  It's becoming clear that four-time NCAA champ Carter Starocci will move up to 184 pounds to try and become the first five-time champ in collegiate wrestling history. Last year's 157-pound NCAA champ, Levi Haines, is moving up to 174. Sophomore Tyler Kasak, who finished third at 149 pounds year ago, looks set to replace Haines at 157. All three will compete in the NWCA event along with Greg Kerkvliet (heavyweight), Shayne Van Ness (149 pounds), and Beau Bartlett (141).  You can watch this week’s Penn State wrestling show in the video player above and also on YouTube. Or, you can listen at your favorite destinations for audio like SPOTIFY and APPLE. The show closes with a look at the Lions' 2024-2025 schedule and what we know about it so far. Penn State opened practice to the media on Wednesday evening inside Holuba Hall and head coach James Franklin spoke with the media after the event. What did we see and hear that's important for this weekend? We'll discuss.  Recruiting News and Visitor preview Last weekend's primetime kickoff was a major opportunity for the Nittany Lions to attract top recruiting talent to Happy Valley for the win over Illinois. Recruiting experts Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz spent the last week contacting recruits and getting a sense for how the experience went for them. We'll discuss the most important players they've talked to and the most interesting conversations.  However, the next list is always the most important one. Snyder and Fitz are working hard to end the week confirming players who will attend the upcoming game. Which names stand out from that list? They'll discuss the most interesting players joining team for the showdown with UCLA.  Game Preview Finally, we'll preview the team's matchup with UCLA. What do we think are the major factors that will determine the outcome? The Bruins travel to the East Coast as a nearly 30-point underdog. We'll answer questions from the Blue White Illustrated message board members, including a discussion on the cornerback room and more.  What sort of step does the team need to take after a dominant performance against Illinois that only resulted in 21 points? BWI Live Postgame Show: Penn State Survives battle with Illinois

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD The Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday night in a gritty, grimy game. Penn State used Illinois tactics against them, running the football repeatedly in the third and fourth quarters to grind out a closer-than-expected victory. Join the BWI Live postgame show to discuss the win and your thoughts about how the team performed.  Make sure to subscribe to Blue White Illustrated's YouTube Channel so you don't miss our live postgame show, James Franklin's press conference, our Instant Analysis from reporters at the stadium and more.  Penn State offense grinds out win  The high-flying offense we became accustomed to through the first month of the season didn't show up for the Nittany Lions. Penn State didn't complete a pass over 20 yards in the game. Once again, quarterback Drew Allar didn't make many mistakes to put the ball in harm's way but was off-target in the first half, missing several passes that would have converted third and fourth down.  In the third quarter, Penn State ran the ball 16 times. However, kicker Sander Sahaydak missed two field goals and kept the game close throughout the contest. Overall, the Penn State offense had four drives of eight plays or more. They also accumulated multiple chunk runs without breaking off a big run for a touchdown in the game.  Defense dominates in the second half The Penn State defense gave up just 32 total yards in the second half before AJ Harris stepped in front of a fourth down pass from Altmyer. Harris took the ball back for a touchdown, but a block in the back penalty on slot corner Zion Tracy eliminated the defenisve score.  Still, the defense dominated the line of scrimmage all night and prevented Illinois from getting into a rhythm offensively. Illinois averaged 1.8 yards rushing on the night.  Penn State vs. Illinois Postgame Show #PennState  #NittanyLions   JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Get the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24Preview Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters:  https://bluewhiteonline.com  Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

Penn State Wrestling Show: Latest on 2026 Recruiting and Schedule News

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD The Penn State wrestling show from Blue-White Illustrated is back to get you up to speed on the latest news and information about the Nittany Lions. The 2024-2025 regular season is almost here, and the leaves are starting to turn color to prove that the calendar is inching closer to NCAA title defense time for head coach Cael Sanderson and his legendary program. On this week's show, BWI reporter Greg Pickel and host Thomas Frank Carr start by recapping the latest recruiting information. Top Class of 2026 recruit Bo Bassett had Penn State coaches at his Pa., house for an in-home visit on Tuesday. He also reduced his list of suitors to 17 schools, while fellow teammate, top recruit, and junior Jax Forrest dropped his list to 10. The Nittany Lions are on both prospects' rundown of schools, which are still in the running, of course. Following the recruiting update, Pickel and Carr move on to the latest schedule news. The Lions will host Drexel in December during the non-conference portion of their 2024-2025 schedule. Here's where things stand on that front as of Thursday night: The show closes with a look at the NWCA All-Star Classic. Levi Haines is competing in it at 174 pounds after winning last year's 157-pound title. And, Shayne Van Ness is returning from last season's injury to wrestle at 149 in the event. What do those two developments tell us about the Penn State projected lineup in 2024-2025? Pickel and Carr discuss. Update: After the taping of this episode, Flo announced two more matches involving Penn State wrestlers. Beau Bartlett faces Ohio State’s Jesse Mendez at 141 pounds. And, Greg Kerkvliet faces Buckeye Nick Feldman at heavyweight.  #PennState  #NittanyLions   JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Get the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24Preview Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters:  https://bluewhiteonline.com  Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com

BWI Live: Penn State Offense Gets Everyone Involved | Postgame Show

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD Penn State football defeated Kent State on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium. Relive the game and what we learned about the Nittany Lions on the BWI Live Postgame Show. We take you through the key plays and players from the game on the sixty-minute show. Join us live or check out the replay on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel, here on the site, or in your favorite podcast app.  Penn State vs. Kent State recap  The game started much like the season for Kent State, which is to say a total disaster. Starting quarterback Devin Kargman to a nasty hit from Penn State's defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton and had to leave the game on a stretcher after the second play of the game with a leg injury.   However, it was a slow start to the game. The Penn State offense put together several long drives, but one ended with a Beau Pribula interception in the red zone on a screen. The second ended with a Tyler Warren touchdown and the Nittany Lions took a 7-0 lead into the second quarter.  However, the team built up steam throughout the second quarter, and finished at a blistering pace. Quarterback Drew Allar began to attack downfield and the team scored twice within two minutes before halftime. After halftime, Allar tossed a 59-yard touchdown to Omari Evans to end the day for the starting offense. Allar compiled 309 yards and three touchdowns before heading to the bench.  Defense smothers Kent State The Penn State defense made the game a literal non-contest after it began the day as a virtual non-contest. After knocking Kragman out of the game, backup quarterback JD Sherrod had to leave with a lower-body injury. The defense played multiple depth players throughout the contest, even early. Despite that, they allowed only 62 yards through three and a half quarters.  We'll highlight some notable players and young talent that stood out in the game.  Penn State Offense Gets Everyone Involved | Postgame Show More postgame content  Blue White Illustrated has you covered with extensive postgame content! Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated right now to listen or watch on the site.  Penn State suffers big blow with loss of KJ Winston We start the show by discussing Penn State's injury situation and Winston's loss. How will Penn State adjust its personnel and scheme? We discuss how fellow safety Jaylen Reed's role changes and how the team may need to move linebacker Tony Rojas around to fit Abdul Carter into the scheme.  We also discuss which games Penn State will most feel Winston's absence.  Penn State recruiting news  It was a busy several days for the Penn State recruiting department and not all of the news was positive. Three-star safety commit Antonio Branch has a visit set for Colorado this weekend to see the Buffaloes. How concerning is the situation? We also reveal if it's an official visit during the show.  But on the flip side, Penn State offered Pittsburgh Central Catholic linebacker Bradley Gompers this week. We discuss why the Nittany Lions offered him so late and what the offer means at this stage of the 2025 recruiting calendar.  The staff didn't stop offering 2025 late risers at Gompers. They also extended an offer to Ohio athlete Chaz Coleman out of Warren G. Harding high school. We look at his film on the show and discuss what sort of athlete he is and Penn State's chances to land him.   Finally, we discuss Fitz's article from this week about the Penn State commits that have stood out in September. You can check out the full article on the site, but we highlight LaVar Arrington II and Daryus Dixson during the conversation.  Game Preview Finally, we discuss the team's upcoming game against Kent State. Which players need to see the most reps to help their development? BWI Live: Where Penn State Can Improve to be an ELITE Team

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD This is the final week for the Penn State football team to make corrections and improve before the Big Ten Schedule begins to end the month of September. The MAC team at Kent State travels to Happy Valley this weekend to play the Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium, and we're discussing the important aspects of last week's bye and this week's game on the BWI Live Show. Join us at 10 a.m. on YouTube to participate in the hour-long discussion, or check it out on replay there or embedded in this article.  We'll also discuss the team's recruiting efforts from this past weekend, James Franklin's weekly press conference from Monday, and your questions to end the show in the BWI Mailbag. The best way to get the most out of your Blue White Illustrated subscription is to join our YouTube page.   Fitz's recruiting update Penn State football used the bye week to do some traveling and recruiting, which our reporters documented this weekend. BWI recruiting expert Sean Fitz will discuss Franklin's travels and which stops are meaningful.  The On300 update for the Class of 2025 dropped yesterday and several Penn State prospects made moves in the rankings for the top 300 players. Fitz will discuss what's important to know and where you can find more information. We'll also preview his deep dive into offensive lineman Michael Troutman. Troutman is a little-discussed commit in the Class of 2025 that Fitz will educate fans about on today's show.  Between the Lines Franklin spoke with reporters for roughly 40 minutes on Monday to kick off the team's game week against Kent State. Our Penn State reporters were there and will discuss the meaning behind some of Franklin's most interesting answers. What's the injury status of KJ Winston? Is Franklin more open about injuries this year? We'll dive into those topic and more.  Penn State vs. Kent State preview and Mailbag The game this weekend is a tough one to discuss because of the nature of the team's opponent. Unlike Bowling Green, which showed before the game earlier this year that it would be a quality test, Kent State has put up very poor showings so far. We'll discuss how to talk about this game, what is critical for a successful weekend, and more.  Today's BWI Mailbag questions also deal with that topic. Which players should fans be excited to see this weekend? We'll discuss that, and preview which young players might make an impact on the back end of the 2024 schedule.  #PennState  #NittanyLions   JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Get the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24Preview Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters:  https://bluewhiteonline.com  Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Penn State's Big Ten Schedule Is Around The Corner | Final Adjustments vs. Kent State –Kevin Brown –Inside the Den podcast –Delivering mags –testing setup –No article this afternoon
