The City Speaks is Dublin’s first podcast walking tour and a new way to discover an old town. Artists, creators, musicians and much more will share their stories which contribute to how the city is shaped. In this series, we talk to some of Dublin’s most prolific street artists. As we visit their murals around the Smithfield area, we learn more about their creative process, the ideas behind certain pieces and what it’s like being a street artist in Dublin.

Stop Two: Subset at Haymarket

Our next stop is Haymarket, Smithfield where there are three more Subset pieces. The first piece is a boat and its abstract reflection. The second is a photorealistic portrait of an unidentified character, while the third is a colourful mobius. Subset join us again to tell us more. Please enjoy Jameson Responsibly.

Stop Seven: Hephee at Bow Street

Stop Six: Aches at Friary Avenue

Aches is a staple of Irish street art. His work is bold and his cyan, magenta and yellow colour palette can be spotted throughout the city. To the centre of Smithfield Square, he has painted his signature tag – something he explains artists do to practise new techniques. Please enjoy Jameson Responsibly.

Stop Five: Vadis & Tilf at King Street North

Above Smithfield Square, this huge piece represents the joy of music. This collaborative art was created by two Italian artists, Valdis and Tiff. Stop Four: James Early at The Hendrick

Next we move to The Hendrick – Dublin’s dedicated street art hotel. The six-storey building is home to some of the city’s most vibrant pieces and includes work from James Early. Our first stop is ‘Horse Boy’, one of Dublin’s most iconic murals. Painted by Subset, this mural became the subject of debate around planning legislation when reports emerged that Dublin City Council had ordered the piece to be removed.
