Dr. Woodsmall holds a PhD in Organization and Management from Capella University with a specialty in management education and a certificate in college teaching. I also hold an MA in Business Administration from Webster University and a BS in Industrial Technology from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Dr. Woodsmall has always been a fan of leadership concepts. Hi dissertation topic was “Transformational Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness.” Interestingly, and his specific research contributed to the conflicting views in the literature as to whether leadership creates or is created by the organizational culture; in my case the organization’s leadership team clearly created the transformational culture in the subject organization.
Dr. Woodsmall is retired from the Air Force and has held various positions including management instructor and course designer, manager of corporate programs, director of corporate training and communication, adjunct faculty at several colleges, training consultant, and was one of the first 15 certified worldwide business skills facilitators for ExecuTrain, Inc. He is also Myers-Briggs Type Indicator qualified.

Sprint or Marathon to the Phd
Episode in
The Drs. Gwyn and Handy Show
There are many cases where a student goes through school without stopping. He/she went from Kindergarten to PHD without taking any water breaks. Everything has a pro and a con. On one hand, one can graduate in his/her mid twenties and have their whole life to gain experience.
There is also another option is what many more students choose: to gain experience. After obtaining their Bachelors Degree, one may decide to take a year off and get a job. Afterward, obtain their Masters after gaining that experience. By the time their PHD is completed, they are almost 40. Is it worth it to gain experience and prolonging the road to becoming a doctor, or is it better to go from start to finish nonstop. Is it more about the sprint or the marathon?
