Spontaneous Human Combustion

Episode in The Eniqma
Spontaneous human combustion refers to the death from a fire originating without an apparent external source of ignition; the fire is believed to start within the body of the victim. This phenomenon is believed to have occurred for centuries, where the earliest documented incident can be found in the 17th century, with a large number of cases recorded in the 19th century and a handful in the 20th and 21st centuries. Altogether, there are a few hundred recorded possible cases. In this podcast version of the episode, I will feature three more exclusive cases of Spontaneous Human Combustion and also a more in-depth view of the mysterious phenomena. The Chessboard Killer

Episode in The Eniqma
First, there was The Wolf of Moscow in the 1920s, then The Rostov Ripper in the 1980s. Now Russian police say that they have arrested a man arguably the most prolific serial killer in post-Soviet Russia called the Bitsevsky Maniac. People in the neighbourhood of Khersonskaya Street in Moscow were terrorized as there was an alarming number of dead bodies found in the park nearby. Many of the victims were attacked in a similar fashion where they were struck by a blunt force at the back of their head. Once apprehended, he admitted on live tv for being responsible for the disappearances of many of the residences in the neighbourhood between the years 1992 and 2006. He admitted that he was on a killing spree, killing as many as 60 people. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theeniqma/support

The Immortal Emperor - Qin Shi Huang

Episode in The Eniqma
Qin Shi Huang was the founder of the Qin dynasty and was the first emperor of a unified China. Before Qin, China had multiple diverging states where each of them had their calendars, writings and road widths. He invented the title "emperor" after he had conquered all of the Chinese states and unified them. From 247 to 221 BC he was regarded as Zheng, King of Qin and only from 221 BC until his death he became the First Chinese Emperor. Although Qin Shi Huang made many vital contributions that had left an eternal mark on subsequent Chinese history, he is not exactly remembered as a benevolent ruler who focused for the welfare of his subjects. Instead, he is often viewed as a tyrannical and authoritarian ruler by the later generations. Late in his life, he became fearful of death that he was obsessed with seeking immortality. The Canadian Residential School

Episode in The Eniqma
Residential schools were government-sponsored religious schools that were established to assimilate Indigenous children into Euro-Canadian culture. Beginning in the late 1800s, the Canadian government's Department of Indian Affairs (DIA) officially encouraged the growth of the residential school system as a valuable component in a wider policy of integrating Indigenous people into Euro-Canadian society. Residential schools were created by Christian churches and the Canadian government as an attempt to both educate and convert Indigenous youth and to assimilate them into Canadian society. However, the schools have disrupted lives and communities, causing lifelong problems. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) considered it to be a cultural genocide, a conclusion that echoed the words of historian John Milloy, who argued that the system's aim was to "kill the Indian in the child." --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theeniqma/support

The Lighthouse Keepers of Eilean Mor

Episode in The Eniqma
On the foggy morning of 15th December 1900, the steamer Archtor from Philadelphia was on a passage to Leith. A few days after their departure, they passed by the seven islets known to locals as the “Seven Hunters.” Stood on top of the highest peak of the biggest island of them all is a lighthouse. However, there was no light shining from its lantern. It seems as though it was abandoned or rather no one is on duty on that day. Little did they know, a tragedy had occurred to the lighthouse keepers a few days prior that has puzzled people to this very day. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theeniqma/support
