The ESL Sessions Presents: En Mi Comunidad- Marcolina Santana As the reach of social media further expands, it becomes an ever more present part of our daily life, this makes the necessity for marketing and scaling more apparent. From new youtubers to tick tokers and channels of all sorts, engagement and analytics are a small and fairly misunderstood part of content creation on this episode I am joined by my friend and fellow content creator as we focus on the social media marketing landscape. Growing up in upstate new york and being apart of her family restraunt she recounts her ealry experience in seeing the differences between mom and pop shops and corporate business, we delve into into here decision to study media production and circumstance led her across the country for a short time then back east where her content creation and experience allowed her to be the founder of her own business in social media consulting. As well we explore the nuances of corilating relationships and business ventures along with what it takes to be an independent business owner, entrepreneur, and self-starter En mi comunidad.

With the rise of podcast, narratvie story telling and role playing adventure online there is a resurgence and demand for orignal stories in the audio format akin to radio plays of old. With a plot entwined in mystery and deseat one of these newly procuded stories is the subject of this episode. Focusing on its cast and cretaors we delv into the story of its creation and inspiration. the journy of its voice actors and its production. Speaking with memebrs of the Radio drama Valmont: The Black Raven Chrinciles I get some more isnght on the individuals bringing an orginal story to life and their passion and dedication to this project... en mi comunidad.

What does it mean when your time as a military leader shaped to command forces as a career ends and brings you to the social media landscape to become an advocate for these communities? In this episode , I am joined my not only a fellow service member but one of the role models that had shaped my military career so far. After growing up in Fayetteville Georgia in the 80s, being given the opportunity to study at a prestigious school in the Atlanta region he recounts his time in the Naval Academy, and his 20+ year career as a naval officer. Retiring as a commander, he co-hosts one of these independent podcast with another fellow service member, disecting the roles, leadership decisions ,and opinions going on not just in the US but also with international events. We explore his points of view on the immigration raids, his thoughts on the current state of the nation and an unfiltered and muche required analysis of what it means to not only be a black man, but a minority, fighter and the endevours he has experienced while also speaking out during these trying times as journalist... en mi comunidad

On this speical Pride month episode, I am joined by a fellow service member. Growing up in South Carolina, and raised southern baptist we talk about identity and tackeling with accepting yourself, being accepted by your family and how it affects all members of the LGBTQ+ community. After military service, a marriage and subsepquent divorce she recounts her experience of serving during the repeal of dont ask dont tell and acceptence of Trans Service members, and gives insight on her experience so far after coming out as trans in 2020. We explore her perspective with current changes in 2025 and answer what it means to be privlaged and use that as a way to speak out in support of other communities. As we also learn about other aspect of her life as a voice actress in a audio drama, and here personal project to provide a safe space online with hope to expand its members and bring more inclusion. We explor her story growing up in Oklahoma, and navivating the education system before the year 2000. Aftwr aving graduted from the University Boston in Massachusetts she guides us in her journey to move abord to mexico and begin teaching Spanish fully imersing herself in the culture and life and overcoming the challanges that come with the languages and communication. Eventually returning to the US and seeing an opportunity to expand on her love of languages, she embarks on the first step in creating Fluency corp, bringin accessible and effective language learning skills to business clients at an enterpise level and further expanding to child education and personal use.

In this mini series on teachers appreciation week for 2025 I am joined by my first ESL teacher and one of the educators that inspired me to create this podcast. Born at the end of WW2, growing up in California and Arizona join us as we go through his life being raised in fallon nevada, by a teacher and Sign maker. We explore his life as the only white student in a all black school in north vegas in the 50s, university of Nevada reno in the 60s and his 2 years voluntary service in vietnam. We touch on his late entrance into education and his views on the changes that affected not only me as his student but all of his students life throug the often difficult assimilation via ESL.

From her early life as a teacher in Colombia to becoming an educator in the United States. We explore her experiences as a Fulbright scholar in the early 90s and how she came to be a professor at the University of Nevada Reno, Fernley Nevada and ultimately ,Hugg highschool in Reno. We remanic on Spanish club, her experiences with her students, the challenges of being an educator for ESL and Spanish lacking resources, and the administration battles she fought for her students. As well as her guidance and mentoring she provided to many of my fellow classmates and international students.

We explore here experience as an educator in the changing field of special needs. Focusing more on her job, she gives us some insight on challenges, and advancement in her field of specialty. What inspired her to become a special needs teacher and her role in in such an involved field of teaching profession. Along with learning a little more about her life outside of the class room we delv into her impact on her students, her, thoughts on the education system in the current administration and the importance of unity with other professionals in the educational field.

After 4 years of military service and becoming a public servant he was able to accomplish his goal of becoming a teacher in 2020. Now having taught for 4 years we explore his experience in seeing his first class graduate, his challenges along the way in becoming educator. Facing some Adversity and life changing decisions during his early adult years we discuss his deciaon to join the military, the course changing interaction with a military educators along with his professional and personal achievments as a teacher juggleing life and a career that requires alot of involment. What happens after your are deported? Who gains moniteeraly and benefits from overreaching laws, punishment and violations of your constitutional rights? And after being forcibly being removed from the united states how do you start all over again, in your country of brith that you have never lived in? In this episodes, i am joined by an individual who has exerienced these violations of his rights, and revocation of his legal status due to the laws, inacted int the state of California. Through his experience with their judicial system, incaceration, and being volunterally forced, into the California inmate fire fighter crew he recounts his experience with ICE air in 2014. After arriving in Mexico working in the outsource world of call center services, he rediscovers his passion for art, and its power to be a driving force for messages of change. From painting small cultural pieces to murals on the US/México border, we explore his journey as not only a deported individual but as an artist and activist... en mi comunidad.

With the actions of the current administration, the rights and liberties of legal citizens, residents and undocumented people are being stript. Who is next? Who will they target after "the criminals" are aprehended? What does your 1st ammendment right mean to you and others? And is being an individuals with thaughts and beliefs, criticism of actions being taken by the current administration counter or hypocritical to the oath of enlistement? After the war, his early years with the Iraq educational system, and even a short story on his interaction with soldiers during the US ocupation, he give us insight from his perspective on confidence as an immigrant in the ealry 2010s. When we talk about our veterans, and active duty service members as a niche great strides have been made from pushing to end The 22 perday suicide of service members, to reforms on the post-service medical treatment with the department of veteran affairs and each respective branch. But one front we may not have been aware of is the immigration status and deportation of many honorable Soldiers Sailors Marines and Airman. From the the Vietnam War to as recent as the war in Afghanistan, today I am joined by a fellow service member on the front line in the fight to bring our deported veterans home. After 6 years of service 2 combat tours and juggling the United states Immigration system, she guides us through her experience in pushing reforms, patitioning to the us government as well enlightening us on the succes and often failor of what it means to reptraiate our deported Veterans by this organization, en mi communidad.
