HB45: Kathleen Ventura – Finding the Right Business Coach

. Such a fun episode this week! Kathleen is so full of life, love and energy – you are going to LOVE it. The topic is how to find the perfect business coach for you, and as one herself, Kathleen has some spot-on insights that are sure to help you through this important decision. Join us today as we discuss finding a good one, when you should (and shouldn’t) hire one, and how long you should meet for. And at the end, we dive into some foodie/lifestyle discussion that helped finish up the show with a breath of fresh air! WHAT WE COVER IN TODAY’S EPISODE The Key to Discovering the Perfect Fit Start paying attention where ever you hang out. Keep a lookout in Facebook Groups and listen to who your friends are talking about. Following the scent towards the right person for you is the most natural and direct way to do it. Deciding on the right person Most coaches offer a ‘Discovery Call’ before you book a package with them. Make sure to ask if they can actually coach you during that call. If they require a one-off call, do it, because you’ll get a sense of how you’ll work together on a more personal level What to look for A good coach will help you create clear concise measurable objectives & specific strategies to achieve those. Here are a couple examples of clear objectives… Be featured on 5 major media publications this year Bring on 6 private clients before June When you should hire one When is a good time for a beginner entrepreneur to hire a coach? …before you even invest in a website! A coach will help you identify what’s important to you. A coach needs to meet you where you are, and will help you craft a comfortable approach. IE, maybe you don’t even want to be on Facebook, or on video? When you shouldn’t Not if you’re hoping they’re going to be the answer to all your problems. They aren’t going to ‘change your world’ without your effort. Your problems won’t vanish without you putting in the work. Coaches are also good when you’re on the upswing, even if you’re already having success. The right fit for you will help amplify your results. How long should you meet for? It really depends where you’re at with your business. It could be 1 session or even 6 months. Sometimes 3 months isn’t enough if you’re just starting to hit your stride though. The faster you’re willing to do the work and implement the actions, the quicker you’ll see the payoff. Links to Resources we mentioned Adventure Cycling Association – Kathleen and her husband road 4,500 miles across the US, this is the resource they used for their route Work With Kathleen – More info on how you can work with Kathleen, and learn more about her style Private Coaching – 6 month private coaching package, her recommended duration, especially if you’re just starting out Intensives – More in-depth private coaching where you will “spend the entire day busting through blocks and limiting beliefs, laying out business strategy and evaluating the overall objectives for your business moving forward!” Kathleen’s FB Group Our Facebook Group – Unstoppably Healthy & Wealthy Entrepreneurs THANK YOU Thank you so much for listening, and if you liked this episode let us know!  You can do that by, leaving a comment below (it’s super easy), leaving a review on iTunes (this would be FAB!) or leaving us a comment in our Facebook Group (we’d love to hear from you)! HB44: Trying to Eat Healthy? (where to start)

. Hey Guys! If you’re just getting started with healthy eating, or are trying to get healthy and need some guidance, this episode is going to be a huge help. Today we’re talking about easy diet upgrades and healthier alternatives you can switch to. We’re also going to dive into foods to eat more of AND which ones you should avoid the most. Finally, we’re covering which equipment you should & shouldn’t upgrade right away, and we’ve also got some bonus tips on where you might struggle. If you need a little extra help, Sarah is also offering 20min Q&A Sessions to help provide more specific help. Click Here to Schedule >> WHAT WE COVER IN TODAY’S EPISODE Look at your current diet (what can you improve? What is lacking?) Rather than cutting out, try switching to healthier alternatives Fruit smoothies to Green smoothies Coffee to Green Juice Store bought desserts to homemade low sugar desserts Dessert 4 times per week to 2 times Switching to an entirely new diet doesn’t work Enhancing your current diet is the smartest approach you can take You’re 95% more likely to stick with it, because it’s basically the same Focus on little upgrades, one at a time Foods everyone could add more of Greens Lettuces, hardy varieties, bitter varieties, local varieties Water H2O + vegetables like cucumbers and fruits like tomatoes Seeds Easier to digest than nuts, but also have lots of protein Sweet Potatoes Filling, low glycemic, delicious, versatile Superfoods Cacao, ginger, turmeric + black pepper, green tea + 1,000 others Local Produce The fresher the better Foods everyone could eat less of (try to start eliminating these) Bread Causes constipation, high calorie to nutrient ratio Always have pre-cooked grains on-hand like quinoa, brown rice or millet Grain-free wraps are better and becoming more widely available Chips Simple tortilla chips or whole sweet potato chips with minimal ingredients only once a week is a good goal Energy Bars Ultimate ‘health’ convenience food, sugary, processed, most aren’t real food, should only be relied on in a pinch Dairy Don’t really need it, may work against your health efforts Caffeinated Products Coffee + energy drinks Kick coffee by improving your diet first. Natural, sustainable energy comes from a healthy body Sugar Sugar is in almost everything these days. Try to reduce your daily sugar as much as possible Use the equipment you have before buying new Blender Yes – use it until it dies, then great a really nice one (the blender we use) Food Processor No – Not if it’s one of those tiny 2-cup Cuisinart’s from back in the day Juicer Yes – wait until the motor burns up, then get a nice one (what we recommend) Knives No – If you don’t have good knives you need to upgrade ASAP. Bad knives will make you hate cutting stuff up, and that just doesn’t work when eating healthy. Here’s a simple set we’d recommend: http://amzn.to/1SwVelL Cutting Boards If you have big ones, even if they’re plastic you should keep them and eventually upgrade to wood ones. If you have small ones, you NEED to get at least 1 big wood one. Where you might struggle Eating Out You can still eat out, be a stickler for ingredients and don’t be afraid to make special requests – the customer is always right, even if you feel like you’re being a nuisance Cravings Good episode for reducing sugar: HB08 Mindfulness: How we justify sugar Good episode for handling cravings: HB18 Rebound: How to get back on the health wagon Be nice to yourself Always plan your food and know when you’ll need a snack. Getting hungry is a vulnerability for cravings and impulse eating, so you’re standards won’t be as high Drink water before eating if you don’t believe you should be feeling hungry – otherwise go for a healthy snack Don’t eat dinner TOO early, otherwise you’ll want to eat a ‘feel good’ snack after a hard day’s work Friends/Family Lot’s of pressure here Good resource for getting your friends & family on-board Cook for them, Cook with them, Shop with them & Impress them It’s okay to say no. This is your life and you need to take care of you Watch out for defensiveness, it’s inevitable FREE 20MIN Q&A SESSION with Sarah Sarah’s opening a few spots each month for free 20 minute Q&A calls. HB42: How to Cook with Your Spouse

. Hey There Health Beet Listener! We’ve got a juicy podcast for you today and want to help you get your partner into the kitchen! Not only is it a great way for the two of you to bond (hello relationship builder), but it will save you a lot of time. We also have a little challenge for you, we want you and your spouse to set aside some time this week to make our super simple pho recipe, and then snap a picture of the process or the final product. Are you willing? It will be fun:) 9 Ingredient Pho Recipe + Shopping List is below… WHAT WE COVER IN TODAY’S EPISODE Why cooking with your spouse is so wonderful Bonding – use the time spent in the kitchen to connect and work together as a team. Saves Time – 4 hands work a lot faster than 2. Unwind – turn on some music and use cooking dinner as a time to relax and update each other on your day. Get Healthy – making dinner is always healthier than eating out. It’s a great way to get strong and healthy together. How to make it work Figure out who’s best at what? Who can multi-task ? Who will be a better lead ? Who will be a better assistant ? Just Set Started Maybe you don’t know who’s best at what; take your best shot and the roles will come with time. Have a plan Get a recipe – don’t try to get your spouse cooking with no plan. Have a recipe or at least one in mind when going into it. Make sure you have all the ingredients – plan ahead of time and do some shopping if you need to. Set a timer for when you need to start dinner – it’s easy to get caught up in your work, so we suggest having a time agreed upon for when you’re going to start dinner together. Where you might struggle Getting your spouse to help – maybe offer them something in return for their help.  How can you persuade them to get cooking – maybe a back massage, or offer to make them a sweet treat? Cooking in a small kitchen – make the best of it, sometimes you just have to smile and laugh it off. Disagreeing about something/ kitchen arguments –  If you get into an argument, maybe someone needs to take a little break and then come back to the kitchen. When recipes don’t turn out – remember it’s nobody’s fault. And try not to take it personal. Also remember you won’t starve, you may end up having cereal and smoothies for dinner, but it happens.  If the recipe isn’t totally awful, figure out what could make it better or what you would do differently next time you try it. DISHES – Whoever does most of the cooking shouldn’t be responsible for all the dishes.  However, at the end of the day, no one wants to feel like they’re doing all of the work. So help each other out when you can. Don’t leave your partner in the kitchen alone;) YOUR PHO RECIPE + SHOPPING LIST Download the recipe + shopping list and get your spouse in the kitchen with you! But don’t forget to share a picture of you two, or the finished product in our FB Group. GET YOUR HEALTH Q’S ANSWERED We’re opening a few spots each month for free 20 minute Q&A calls. HB40: Feel Inspired Now! The Best Books & Podcasts

. Hey There! We have a great show lined up for you today, discussing everything that’s inspiring in our lives right now – particularly books & podcasts. We had a listener ask us what lights our fires and this is what we came up with. It’s so important to feed your creativity and nurture your interests. Hopefully today’s show (and the detailed list below) will help provide you with some much needed inspiration as well :) Inspiring Books & Magazines The Magic of Thinking Big – both Sarah AND Peter put this book on their list. It’s a little retro but it’s a great book to expand your perception. It has a great table of contents and you can almost hear his voice when you read it. Tim Ferriss is also a big fan. The Miracle Morning – written by Hal Elrod, this is a wonderful book to inspire you when feeling down. He’s got a great story and also inspired a whole podcast we did (HB02: Why You Should Start Waking Up Earlier). This book has helped us get fired up first thing in the morning and ready to take on your day. The Dip – written by Seth Godin, this book helps you put the ‘entrepreneur roller coaster’ into perspective. It’s “A Little Book That Teaches You When To Quit (and when to stick)”. Sometimes your thing or service doesn’t take off, and this provides an insightful look at that. Both Sarah & Peter have both read it, it’s straight-forward, no BS, straight up helpful. Healing Back Pain: The Mind Body Connection – a lot of us entrepreneurs suffer from back pain due to sitting all day, and this book is helpful to understand why it may not seem to get better as quickly as you’d like. The author says most of all back pain is due to repressed emotions rather than the actual structural problems often pointed out by health professionals. Homestead – a memoir Peter recently read about a couple who build a homestead way out in the middle of Oregon. It’s older and doesn’t have a lot of reviews. Peter actually bought it at a 2nd hand bookstore on a whim – it looked interesting. He loves to be outdoors and wishes to have a cabin out in the wilderness one day. Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow – a book Sarah read about 18 months ago. It’s a memoir with a lot of different stories showing how we all have difficult times in our lives but when they break us open, we become vulnerable and better people. There’s always a positive outlook in terrible events, and this book is a great way to remember that. Backpacker Magazine – Peter’s favorite magazine to help plan for upcoming hiking/camping trips in remote parts of the world. There’s lot of great advice and beautiful pictures. Organic Avenue: Recipes for Life, Made with Love – one of Sarah’s favorite cookbooks. Lots of juices, smoothies and overall great inspiration for new recipes and flavor combinations. Outside Magazine – everything outdoors for Peter to dream about. Backwoods Home Magazine – Peter feels slightly embarrassed about this one, but he loves to learn about living in the wilderness. Inspiring Podcasts The Smart Passive Income Podcast – big surprise, 2 entrepreneurs who love Pat Flynn and all of his good-natured helpful content! He’s down to earth, always looking for a win-win for himself and his audience and is always sharing someone Else’s story that is super inspiring. The Get Paid Podcast – Claire and Val are top of the line. Sarah loves this podcast (Peter hasn’t listened yet) because they always ask questions she’s actually interested in. They waste no time in getting down to the bottom line. There’s no sugar-coating and they have great guests on. Achieve Your Goals – this makes the list because Hal gives you no excuses, has a great attitude and is non-stop inspiring. One Part Podcast – by Jessica Murnane. Peter originally shared it with Sarah, talking it up, and she said “eh”. Then she listened to it again and totally fell in love. Her guests are fresh, questions are great and it’s not just business – which is nice. The Tim Ferriss Show – Peter finds this podcast super inspiring. The guests and focus is all over the place, but it’s highly interesting and good for a listen every once in a while. The James Altucher Show – not originally on our lists but somehow we got talking about him. James is character, he’s ultra smart, quick witted and not the least bashful. Check it out sometime for some seriously unexpected conversation. Thank You Thanks for listening! If you enjoy the show please share some positive energy via an iTunes Review :) The post HB40: Feel Inspired Now! The Best Books & Podcasts appeared first on The Seasonal Diet.

. Being an entrepreneur is hard, and anyone who say’s it’s easy is lying! Building our online business has caused us our fair share of anxiety and panic attacks. But, that doesn’t have to be the case – at least not all of the time. If you’re looking for help on how to handle anxiety or negative mindset as an entrepreneur, you’re going to love this episode. EPISODE OVERVIEW Why do entrepreneurs suffer from anxiety?  As an entrepreneur you have a lot on your plate. You’re working with clients, creating new programs and you are the boss. You’re personally responsible for bringing in the money, solving the problems and making sure everything runs smoothly… Yeah, that can be stressful. Why do we tend to think the worst? It has a lot to do with our society, and upbringing – along with our ego and negative mental talk. Good News: You don’t have to solve your anxiety issue to feel calm and at peace today.  Just like in your business, you can change the story in your head and do things that melt that stress away like butter (vegan butter around here)! Recommended Teachings that Ease Stress + Create Positive Shift Meditation – Perhaps the hardest thing to do is doing nothing. But it’s very effective in a subtle way. If you need help getting started check out The Beginners Guide to Meditation. Tapping –  Using physical tapping and affirmations to heal the body. Changing the Story – Be the boss of your own life. You can change the story you’ve been quietly telling yourself. Make it better, and more positive. Books – Reading can be a great way to clear your mind, relax and get out of your own head. Support Groups – This can be a mastermind group, girl friends or even a Facebook Group. << That’s ours :) Journaling – Writing your thoughts out, and keeping a gratitude list can help greatly. Exercise – Another wonderful way to clear your mind and move your focus. We love running and yoga for those reasons. HB38: Healthy Lunches – Easily Plan & Prepare em’ 7-Days / Week

. We’ve got a Short & Sweet episode lined up for you today. We’re talking all about healthy lunches and how to make them happen on a consistent basis. Lunchtime is a struggle for so many of us because we get so caught-up in the am work period, but make the smart choice and plan ahead for it. When you start making healthy lunches a non-negotiable for you, you’ll see dramatic improvements in your afternoon productivity – guaranteed. If you need extra help with your lunches, check out our newest resource: The Healthy Lunch Guide for Busy Entrepreneurs, which specifically addresses this problem and includes extras like recipes, what to order when eating out, energizing foods and every lunch tip we’ve ever known. EPISODE OVERVIEW Why is lunch such a challenge? It’s in the middle of the work-day. We forget to plan ahead and get too wrapped up in our projects. It’s easy to fall into lazy habits like eating out or just snacking through it. How can we simplify it? Find 3-4 healthy recipes and put them on rotation, week after week. This can last you months – just try not to eat them for dinner, otherwise you’ll get tired of them faster. Also try to limit the ingredients in your lunches and try to make them the night before while you’re making dinner – this is a HUGE time saver for us. Finally, try not to make lunches that require a recipe – it’s more complicated and your less likely to actually make it. New recipes are great, just save them for dinnertime :) How to make time for it? Plan for it and mentally prepare for a 30 minute break at 12pm. Try setting 2 alarms to help you wind down from your manic morning, one a half hour before and then one right at your stopping point. Lunch is more important than breakfast in terms of productivity – make sure to eat well and take a break for lunch so you can have a successful afternoon. Why you should skip eating out & How to take charge when you do Pass on eating out as much as possible for peak productivity. Eating heavy, convenience, pre-packaged foods at lunchtime will drain your energy more often than not. Eating out also takes away from your personal break-time, which should be a high priority as there’s often a lot of mental stimulation from the morning work period that should be diffused before heading into the afternoon. Our personal favorites to have for lunch Sarah likes green salads with avocado and tahini dressing. For the dressing she mixes tahini, lemon, miso and garlic. She also makes chickpea crepes, which are done in 10 minutes and are like bean bread. (see recipe links just below) Peter likes salad with lettuce, quinoa, apple, walnuts and a sweet almond butter mustard dressing LINKS TO RESOURCES WE MENTIONED 5 Do-It-Yourself Salad Dressings we use ALL the time Sarah’s Go-To Tahini Salad Dressing Episode Download Printable Checklist – 5 things you must consider before making and preparing your lunch. HB35: 9 Healthy Snack Ideas for Late Night Hustlers

. Hey There Health Beet Listener! Today on the podcast, Peter and I share 9 foods that are good for you and perfect for munching on when working late. They’re much more ideal than opening a bag of chips… Put the potato chips down:) All these options are healthy, because they’re made from whole foods, they are vegan, some raw, and all gluten-free (double check labels as ingredients differ from brand to brand). If you pick from the snacks we cover in this show, instead of using “borrowed” energy (think coffee, sugar, processed foods) you’ll be using sustainable energy (think nutrients that come from fruits & vegetables) – you’ll also avoid an energy crash and unwanted weight gain! Oh, and if your mornings need a makeover, make sure you sign-up for our Morning Makeover! EPISODE OVERVIEW Peter and I dread being at the grocery store when in need of a snack, because usually processed foods win. But when you’re snacking at home, you have the luxury of whipping up something healthy, like some popcorn or protein balls. Both of which take 5 minutes to make.  Or pick up some hummus from the store and pair it with some crispy vegetables. And like I said in the show, hummus is getting pretty creative with their flavors these days! Dark Chocolate Hummus & Kale Pesto Hummus… #sendallthehummusourway Snack #1 – Vegetables & Hummus Our Favorite Hummus brands: Hope, Majestics Hummus Snack #2 – Apple & Nut Butter Nut & Seed Butter to try: Nuttzo Snack #3 – Grain Free Muffins Zucchini Muffin Recipe Snack #4 – Homemade Trail Mix Snack #5 – Green Juice Snack #6 – Kombucha Our Favorite Brands: Living Tea, Health-Ade, GT’s Kombucha Snack #7 – Homemade Popcorn 1-2 Tbsp. organic corn kernels, 1-2 tsp. coconut oil. Turn stove top to medium high, heat oil and add corn in a medium pan, cover pan and  gently shake for about 1.5 – 2 minutes, popping will slow down. Season with sea salt. Snack #8 – Dark Chocolate (70% or higher) Our Favorite Brands: Equal Exchange, Theo, Endangered Species Snack #9 – Protein Balls Easy Chocolate Ball Recipe: 1/4 cup raw walnuts, 1/4 cup raw almonds, 3 Tbsp. cacao powder, 6 soft dates (pitted), 1 dash sea salt, 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Place nuts in the food processor and process until broken up, add remaining ingredients until mixture sticks together, you should be able to roll them up into a ball. If mixture is still dry, add a little almond milk, oil, or more dates. Feel free to roll them in hemp seeds, coconut flakes or eat them as they are. HB34: Improve Your Health Without Sacrificing Your Business

. Hola Health Hustler! Today we’ve got a great show lined up with a few things you can do today to improve your health that don’t take too much time. Sarah and I truly believe you can have amazing health while running a successful business, it just takes consistent effort in a few areas, which overall, isn’t too much of a commitment. Your health is totally worth it, and feeling your best is just around the corner – you got this! Also, be sure to join our 5-Day Diet Cleanup Challenge being created specifically for Entrepreneurs & Busy Professionals… Sign-Up Here >> EPISODE OVERVIEW Common disbelief that you can’t do it all – Recap to last week’s episode HB33: The problem with putting your health on hold until after you ‘Make It’. Today we’re telling you that you can have it all: great health and a growing business. Tips for working out – Get up earlier so you don’t take away from your workout hours. We don’t recommend missing workouts because you always become more efficient afterwards. Working out in the am is essential for us, as we aren’t good at squeezing it in towards the end of the day. We actually did a similar episode on this topic a few months back: HB02 Inspiration: Why you should start waking up earlier – using Hal Elrod’s book The Miracle Morning to help us do just that. Buy a bigger water bottle – Less time refilling – something Peter actually needs to upgrade as his is only 16oz. Going along with this is to drink more water in general – it’s an easy way to boost your mood, energy & digestion. Start your day with something green – Always. For us this is green juice – either made right in the morning or in the evening before bed. Making juice only takes 15min to make & cleanup. For us, this replaces a cup of coffee & has 1000X the nutritional value, which optimizes your body’s performance (also like our multi-vitamin). Upgrade your workstation – Sitting is the new smoking. Get yourself standing – we built one for ourselves at the house. We did covered this a while back in HB10 Mobility: Why you should sit less and how to do it. Also try Varidesk, which is height adjustable so you can sit or stand for just a few hundred bucks. Ditch the junk food – Make the switch to better ingredients. Shop at a health food store to make the buying process simpler. Not everything is super healthy, but their standards are far better than a standard supermarket chain. Also, cook more – we’ll get into a whole lot more of this down in the near future, but cooking more in general helps avoid junk food – dinners, snacks, lunches, whatever you can do helps – a lot! Schedule days when you work outside the house & breaks the routine sometimes – Jog to a nearby park. Walk your neighborhoods and find new streets. Take the opportunity to rest your mind and take a break from your work. Many people find inspiration & new ideas through exercise. Going outside and getting fresh air and sunshine are vital to our bodies & minds – releasing positive endorphin’s and synthesizing Vitamin D for better spirits. Work from a coffee shop, the library, a co-working space. Join a mastermind – Not only is it great for brainstorming business ideas – it’s also a perfect way to create community – which keeps us fulfilled in our lives. This can be virtual or in person, but really helps to keep yourself surrounded by like minded peeps. You might find some people in our FB Group. HB33 Entrepreneurs: The Problem with Putting Your Health on Hold Until AFTER You ‘Make It’

. Today marks the first episode we’re dedicating to Entrepreneurs/Online Business Professionals who know all about the hustle. We’ve  seen so many entrepreneurs who are just getting started, so passionate about their business, log the long hours, skip meals and snack on junk food just to get through the first 1-2 years. The results? Not So Pretty… illness, weight-gain & depression.  Health is crucial for all of us, but especially new entrepreneurs who really want to give it their all and make it happen. I’ve been there… “I thought if we could just get this project out we’d really blow up and wouldn’t have to work so hard”. Or… “this is going to be the program everyone wants”. But as you probably know, or have heard, online business is usually a long slow growth. If it were a race it’d be a marathon… actually, an ultra marathon. Not a sprint. Over and over again we hear successful entrepreneurs say you have to put in the work, grind and hustle, giving it ALL you’ve got. What happens is health gets put on the back-burner. You’ll get to it when you have more time, more money and when your business is more stable – you tell yourself. In today’s show, we cover why so many people have that mindset, and we share a few small things you can do right now. Before & While you make it! Also!  In the following weeks, we’ll be sharing actionable things you can implement to live a little healthier, while still logging the hours in your business. We hope you find these coming episodes helpful and inspirational. EPISODE OVERVIEW Why it’s sooo easy to fall into the mindset of “Once I make it, THEN I’ll take care of myself” Guilt – you feel bad about spending time on yourself. Time – you have a timeline of how long until you’re making money with your business and you don’t want to delay it. Comparison – you see and hear from others who hustle constantly and seem to be doing okay. The problem with waiting to take care of your health Your business will never make it if you don’t have your health. If you’re sick, you won’t be able to work, or at least not create your best work.  You’re not invincible, and a successful business isn’t so great if you feel like crap all the time. You’ll never have more time. It’s easy to say “Once I make it I’ll have more time & money”, and you might, but usually you have to create the time. It will be a lot harder to re-create those healthy habits. If you put off eating well and exercising for 2 years, it’s going to be a lot harder to get back into the habit of taking care of yourself. Easy things you can do today Exercise from home. Spend 30 minutes walking or running in your neighborhood. Look online for at home workouts. Add vegetables to every meal. Try it! Add veggies to breakfast, lunch & dinner. Get out of the house – shut down once a week and do something active with a friend or partner. HB30 Transformation: Does a vegan lifestyle make healthy eating easier?

. Today we are throwing around the V Word! Vegan – someone who doesn’t eat or use animal products. If you’ve been following us for awhile, you know we went vegan in early 2011 and it had a profound effect on our lives. It changed us for the better, and we couldn’t be happier. That being said, I want you to know that The Seasonal Diet is filled with awesome people who don’t all follow a vegan diet, most are vegetarian and some carnivores.  Our motto is follow the diet that makes you feel best. The goal is health, but today we wanted to talk about if being vegan makes eating healthy in general easier… and well, we think it does! EPISODE OVERVIEW Being vegan forces you to look at ingredients – you have to be more aware of the ingredients that are in products and recipes. You start to realize dairy and sugar are in things they really don’t need to be in, like bread, or sugar in condiments. Decisions come from a compassionate place –  It’s no longer just about you and your health. This one might be a hard one to grasp if you’re not vegan, because personally I don’t know if I would have understood it beforehand either. But if you live a life of compassion,  it’s easy to pass on the bacon cheeseburger. You feel more at peace with skipping the burger. It’s not so much about missing out, its more like I’m going to spare that meat in the name of a cow or the environment. You’re eating mostly plants – which naturally produces better health results. When you eat vegan, you’re more likely to eat a lot of plants, as recipes rely on them rather than animal products. The healthier you get, the more you can accomplish and do – More energy, quicker recovery time. Not as tired, weighted down. When you have more energy, cooking dinner is a lot easier and happens more often. Raises consciousness which also correlates with health – More aware of ingredients, of how things make you feel, of others, or the planet. Ending Note – you can take it too far (orthorexia), Now this episode was a little tricky for us to decide on, because well, we don’t love labels – they remind us of gated communities, including some and excluding others. The most important thing is that you listen to your body and eat foods that make you feel your best. We wanted to have this discussion because we believe when you come from a vegan lifestyle, healthy eating can be much easier to sustain. HB29 Capable: How we eat healthy & budget

. Hey There Health Beet Listener! Today’s show is all about saving money while eating healthy.  Answer me this… Do you want to save money while still eating organic? Of course you do! Well, it can be difficult, but it can also be done! While we spend more than most people do on food, we still like to save money when we can. Our health is important to us, so we prefer to  purchase the best organic food we can, that way we can avoid the doctor and serious disease in the future. That being said, we don’t have all this extra money to spend at the health food store, and we like to spend money on other things (like traveling!) so we try and save the best we can. In today’s show, Peter and I walk you through some of the most common ways we save money in hopes of helping you to save some too! EPISODE OVERVIEW You Have to Make a List– Shopping without a plan results in forgotten items, impulse buys and having to make extra trips to the store. Buying in Bulk–  You can save a lot of money buy using the bulk bins. We save by purchasing things like dried beans, chia seeds, GF flours, nutritional yeast, sugars, buckwheat and rolled oats. Shopping Local– Hit up your Farmers Market, Buy what’s in season, Stock up. How to use Coupons–  Pick up Whole Foods’ Whole Deal when in the store. Sign up for their newsletter to get healthy coupons. Limit Specialty Ingredients- Only buy chocolate cereal, raw foods and kombucha on the weekends or special occasions. Treats and Snacks– Make these yourself. Bars, granola, kombucha… all of these can be made on your own.  Usually you have to give up time or money. Skip the Salad Bar- You are paying for convenience and usually these ingredients are not the freshest. Buy the ingredients and make your own salads. Don’t Shop when Hungry-  You already know this but eat before you go:) Shop the perimeter. Don’t Buy Things Unless You Need Them–  Just because it’s new or on sale doesn’t mean you need it. Eating Out– Avoid this if you’re trying to save money. We maybe go out once a month but we really try to avoid it. Once you are comfortable cooking you can create better tasting food than you get at the restaurant. It’s more affordable not to mention healthier! Bonus Tips: Start a garden, Shop Deals on line, Use Thrive Market, re-purpose left-overs, cook in bigger batches, use your freezer. Skip the coffee’s, smoothies & juices at cafes and make your own. HB28 Jump Start: Fast Weight-Loss… Naturally!

. Hey There Health Beet Listeners! We are back with another episode on… Losing Weight. If you just can’t seem to figure it out, or struggle with those pesky 5-10 pounds, then this show is for you.  We’re going to share things you can do right away to see results, things that burn fat and speed up your metabolism so you can get started right away. And then we’re going to show you how to create health habit so you don’t find yourself needing to lose weight quickly ever again. Sound Good? If you’re interested in getting started right away, make sure you download our Quick Start Guide. EPISODE OVERVIEW Eating when hungry- Seems obvious, but you should only be eating when you’re hungry. Skipping breakfast, starting with hydration and then moving to something green. Juicing – starting your day with greens. Green Juice or Green Smoothie. This will help you crave healthier foods rather than sweets. It will also jump-start your digestion and help eliminate waste;) 2 meals a day-  We highly recommend giving the 2 meals a day method we talk about in the show a try. This gives your body a break and allows it to fully digest your meals before adding more. Very similar to intermittent fasting. Eating more plants- This is the best way to get more fiber into your diet. Try adding an entree salad into your daily diet. Also, increase the size of the salad – use half a head of lettuce and shop locally for the freshest variety. Cutting back on sugar- In order to slim down, cut out processed sugars and eat low glycemic fruits like green apples, berries and dark chocolate (70% or higher) for a treat. 1 day juice cleanse- For increased weight-loss try doing a 1-day juice cleanse. Just make sure the majority of your juice is made from leafy greens and not fruit. Also make sure you are getting enough juice – we recommend following a plan.  Moving in the morning- Move your body as soon as you can. This will give you more energy throughout the day and allow you to burn more calories. We don’t recommend intense work outs, just some form of movement, cardio and strength training are all good options. Adding digestive aids to your diet- Add some boosters to help speed up the process. Things like ginger, aloe vera, peppermint, turmeric and parsley are all great options. LINKS TO RESOURCES WE MENTIONED Juicers we have & recommend How to make juice without a blender Detox for Women – Book recommended in the post The Seasonal Diet– Our website Crazy Sexy Diet– Book talks about 1-day juice cleanse Project Juice – Juice cleanse you can order online Free Private Facebook Group – full of members and people looking to lose weight and get healthy THIS WEEK’S MEMBER RESOURCE Eating more greens is essential for losing weight fast (going the natural route).
