IGA037: Aging Differences: Men vs. Women: Who Wins??
Summary:
This episode digs into many topics (tangents??) as Lee takes a journey into exploring the different ways men and women age. He goes into detail about why these gender differences may exist and/or what may be causing them. Lee builds a solid case for his ending conclusion that women have to bare a greater burden in how our culture has depicted aging. Along the way to these conclusions, Lee talks about how “Placebos” have been used to influence our thinking, and the trickery of statistics, both of which provide intriguing side notes that contribute to a deeper understanding. This is definitely one for those who may be more intellectually inclined. But even if you find this level of detail boring, there are enough chuckles here to make it worth your while.
What You Will Learn About In This Episode:
What are Lee’s four F’s of Life?
The trickery of Statistic and why stats should never be trusted.
What is “Cultural Placebo”?
Why learning about gender differences in aging is useful.

IGA036: Reverse Aging And Disease with Human Celluar Regeneration??
Summary:
Many species possess an ability to regenerate damaged tissues to regrow new limb or organs through the mechanism of cellular regeneration. Research is indicating that humans have similar regenerative capabilities, but only at specific times during embryonic development. If this capability could be extended or ignited throughout our lifespan, it would be a major blow to the rise of chronic degenerative conditions currently on the rise. Cancer, Arthritis, Diabetes, kidney diseases, degenerative brain disorders, plus more could be effectively addressed with such medical technology. How real are these possibilities? How soon could we see drugs and other therapeutics become available to combat our chronic conditions?
Lee explores these possibilities with Ira S. Pastor, the CEO of a Bioquark, a company pushing the envelope in this area. Ira educates Lee (and you, the listener) on many of the concepts involved in bringing these solutions to market, and what the present status is on such developments. This is an intriguing conversation, teaching us much, and providing a useful look into a hopeful future.
What You Will Learn About In This Episode:
What is cellular regeneration and why is it important
The different types, or modes, of cellular regeneration found in nature
What are “Biologic” drugs?
The limitations of Stem Cell research
The three R’s of cellular research – Regeneration, Repair, and Rejuvenation.
what diseases consume the largest portion of the 7 Trillion dollars spent on healthcare around the world?
new paradigms in understanding (and curing) cancer

IGA035: End-Of-Life Plans -A Roadmap for Loved-Ones To Carry On
Summary:
When someone passes away, their loved ones most often go on a scavenger hunt to pull together the pieces of the deceased life to form a proper legacy, to resolve all matters of the estate, and to put all affairs at rest and at peace. We have a sense of duty to make the burdens of our passing as easy as can be on those we leave behind. And End-Of-Life (EOL) planning is very important in relieving these kinds of burdens. Lee speaks with Jonathan Braddock, who authored a book on the subject with a catchy title – “Click here when I die”. Jon also runs a website that gives individuals an avenue to create and manage EOL planning. This conversation opens the mind on how we can continue to love our loved ones after our demise.

IGA034: Re-creating Senior Living With Technology Innovations
Summary:
We now live in a world where technology has become essential in the management of our lives. Despite the negative effects, technology has brought so many new capabilities and benefits. However, we can see pitifully few of these benefits when it comes to Senior living and senior care. Whether we are talking about independent living communities, assisted living facilities, traditional nursing homes, or memory care units, the tools, and solutions that could be used to further the convenience and capability of older citizens have remained essentially untapped. The senior living options show little evidence of the technological advances that surround us in our normal environments. Lee discusses this situation with Lisa Cini who has been working hard for more than 20 years to study how technology improve the lives of our parents and grandparents (and ourselves). Lisa has authored two books on the topic and provides excellent food for thought in this intriguing conversation.
What You Will Learn About In This Episode:
The 2 primary reasons people go into senior care facilities
How technology can be brought into the senior housing market for significant impact on convenience and care.
Several interesting and insightful examples of today’s technology which could improve senior living and senior care facilities.
Data mining
House sensors
Medication assistance
health monitoring devices

IGA033: Inter-Generational Learning – Finding Teachers in Strange Places
Summary:
This episode delves into the concepts of Inter-Generational Learning (IGL). Inter-Generational Learning (IGL) is the oldest form of learning dating back to when the old taught the young how to create pictures on cave walls. Lee has recently had two intense experiences showing the immense value of IGL for both young and old. The telling of these experiences provides an educational and entertaining view of how Lee is “mixing it up” with the younger generations and what he (and they) are learning from the interactions. He starts off with his recent trip to Lake Placid, NY, where he meets up with an entirely different culture. The episode finishes with his considerations and ultimate signing up to be a member of a new gym where “kids” are training parkour skills. This episode will have you chuckling a bit, but more importantly, Lee hopes to inspire your own inter-generational experiences.
This episode explores :
What younger people can teach us about getting older.
How to learn about getting older from the young.
Lee’s personal experiences engaging much younger people in his pursuit to understand life and aging.

IGA021- Millennials vs. Boomers – Bridging The Generation Gap
Summary:
Social scientists try to specify the defining characteristics of each of the generations. But there isn’t a lot of information on how Millennials view aging and older people. If today’s guest is any indication, there is a lot to be hopeful for. Brett Roger Gebbie, a 32 year old millennial, is the host of a podcast titled “Inspect Your Elders”, where he chats with those having many more years of experience than he to find out the thoughts and events that have shaped their lives.
After listening to several of his episodes, Lee invites Brett to discuss his motivations and purpose for doing his podcast and uncovers a thinking that seems rather unique among millennials.
