Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He's also the same in America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Come hear stories of how He has revealed Himself to ordinary people in extraordinary ways across the globe. If it's true that we "overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony" then our stories are powerful weapons to be used for great victories. That also means that your story has great power, too!

36: Rhonda - USA - Peace like a River

Rhonda’s life was anything but peaceful.  As a child she didn’t have a father or a stable home.  She experienced ongoing sexual abuse and neglect until she was finally removed from her home.  Her childhood experiences led her to poor choices as a young adult, numerous abortions and physical abuse.  It wasn’t until she saw the terror in her young son’s eyes that the Light of the World finally broke through the darkness and she cried out to Jesus.  He rescued her that day and put her feet on solid ground.  Rhonda has lived off the Word of God ever since.  It is the very breath she breathes and His supernatural joy radiates through her eyes.  She has used her experiences to reach out to others still in the darkness by teaching women’s Bible studies and leading abortion recovery groups.  She has also written several books and Bible studies as an overflow of her experience with our great God and His overwhelming love.  You can find them here: Becoming Ewe: A Woman’s Journey through Psalm 23  Beloved Bride: What if it's time for the Bride to make herself ready and that Bride is YOU?  Available as both a book and a Bible Study  **The enemy has been hard at work to stop this story from getting to you.  Thank you for your patience with the minor audio difficulties in this episode.  I’m confident you’ll be blessed to hear her story!   Verses mentioned in this episode:  “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live” Deuteronomy 30:19 ESV ……………………………….. 35: Carey - When God says "no"

We were finally expecting our second baby.  Jackson’s pregnancy proved to be the most challenging on my body, but his delivery changed us forever.  Sometimes what we want and what we beg God for is not in our best interest.  In this instance, His answer of “no” was the most loving and powerful gift He could have given us. ……………………………….. 34: Jessica - USA - Beauty from Ashes

Jessica was raised in Texas and walked through so many difficulties before she ever reached adulthood: abuse, death of her siblings and foster care.  Her story is one of brokenness, pain and a big ole mess.  The Lord taught her how to bring the broken pieces into the light and He has faithfully restored great beauty from the ashes. Verses mentioned in this episode:  “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.” Genesis 41:52 "Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good." 33: Erin - USA - Feasting on Truth

Erin was raised in a Christian home and up until her mid-30s, she lived a “pretty good life.”  She claims that one of her strengths is positivity and up until that point she “had been able to “positivity” my way through things.” It wasn’t until her family faced a lengthy health crisis that she started to question what she’d always believed about God.  At a conference, she heard Jen Wilkin make a statement that rocked her world. “We cannot be content being curators of other people’s opinions about a book we can’t be bothered to read ourselves.” These questions drove her to the Bible in search of Truth.  The search transformed her and birthed a new hunger for God’s Word.  She has since spent her days helping other women discover and be confident in the Truth by teaching them how to study the Bible on their own.  When the pandemic hit, women reached out to her for Bible teaching and community.  She never thought online Bible study would work, but it has flourished and Feasting on Truth was born.   Most recently she released a new book that shares her story and helps others overcome their obstacles in studying the Word.  Our conversation is rich with stories, tips, wisdom, encouragement and we even dip into buzz words like desconstruction, false teachers and cancel culture.  Erin has been instrumental in the last few years to help and encourage me to lean into the Holy Spirit’s teaching to discover Truth for myself.  I will never be the same, and I am forever grateful.  You can find more information about Erin's teaching, journals and her new book here: Web: Feasting on Truth You Tube: Erin H Warren Podcast: Feasting on Truth   ……………………………….. 32: Carey - life in the little house

We left Knoxville, Tennessee and pulled into Saraland, Alabama right on time for Nathan to start work and start school.  We didn’t want to be there, but were convinced these were the Lord’s plans.  Once we arrived, He echoed His instructions to Joshua, “possess the land.”  This meant, “I need you to be here.  I need you to be all in at this place and this time.  Make this your home and love the people that are right around you. Don’t look back to the past or worry about the future, but live fully in this moment.”  Thirteen years later, I cannot believe how many times God has brought me back to this concept.  Man, He sure knows what He’s doing!   ……………………………….. 31: Lydia - USA - was lost, but now is found

Lydia grew up in a single-parent home.  Her Grandma took her to church from time to time, but nothing really stuck.  While she was in college, she was invited to a Bible study.  With the lure of promised snacks, she decided to go.  She spent years hearing the Gospel and asking hard questions, but she continued to faithfully show up each week.  God had given her a mentor who patiently walked the long path with her. After she finally decided to trust Jesus as her Savior, she walked through a season of tragedy and loss and it challenged her new, fragile faith.  She stuck with Jesus and found that His presence is more than enough.  Today she is thriving and is full of joy as she shares the love of Jesus at her workplace, within her family and as she faithfully serves her local church. ..................... 30: Lisa - USA - the power of thanksgiving, even through cancer

Lisa and Stephen grew up together and later got married.  When their two boys were toddlers in June 2012, and things were going really well, the first cancer diagnosis came in.  Stephen said, “We’re about to figure out if we truly believe what we say we believe.” In the beginning, Lisa said she “tried to keep praise music going, so my focus would be on Him and not all the bad stuff going on. I truly think that’s how we got through it.  We focused on God and who He is and not on our situation.” One day she claimed Philippians 4: 6-7. “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” She prayed about their situation and was frustrated that her heart still felt heavy.  She read it again and realized she’d missed an important step…“with thanksgiving.” She said, “Once I turned to God and listed so many things that I was thankful for, my perspective changed a lot and He took the anxiety away and the fear away.” For parents going through treatment, Lisa advises to try to include your child in the process.  In fact, she’s written a book to help parents tell young children about a cancer diagnosis.  I can only imagine how helpful it would be to have an experienced friend help you find the words for that discussion.  Her book, When (fill in the blank) is sick, shares valuable information such as what is cancer, how to be a helper, things this time can be used for, and how to focus on the Lord instead of our problems. You can find it on Amazon here. This interview was recorded in May 2021.  At the time of publishing in November 2022, Lisa is happy to report that Stephen is nearly 7 years cancer free!  All praise to our great God!  ……………………………….. 29: Foundations

Welcome back to Season 3!  There are some amazing stories coming down the road and I hope they will bring you great encouragement of the Lord’s faithfulness!  At the outset of this season, I want to make sure we’re all on the same page.  I know there are many notions and ideas about “God” and I want to be clear to share my heart and the Truth from His Word, the Bible. When you listen to stories on this podcast, the God these women have encountered is the One True God.  He is the Creator of all things, the God of Abraham.  He is perfect in all His ways.  He is so perfect that nothing corrupt can come near Him.  We, as mankind, are corrupt.  We are all guilty of lying, or jealousy, or greed or selfishness.  The Bible calls these things sin and they separate us from this perfect God.  So now we have a problem.  The Bible teaches us that the consequence for sin is separation from Him and if we are still in that state when our body dies, we will remain separated for all of eternity in a real place, called Hell. If God is perfect and we are not, and we can’t do enough “good things” to pay for our sin, then the solution must come from outside of us. It must come from the Creator, Himself.  So, God left His throne in Heaven and became a man, just like us.  His name was Jesus, but he never sinned like we do.  Therefore, He chose to take your sin and my sin and pay the penalty in our place by dying on the cross.  Three days later He rose back to life, proving He has full authority over sin and death and to forgive our sins.  If anyone would admit they are a sinner, and believe Jesus has done this work on their behalf and choose to make Jesus their personal King, then they can be restored back to the Father.  We can have a relationship with the Creator of the Universe.  We can talk to Him and He can talk to us.  He can lead us, teach us and transform us to become more like Jesus. Of course, this episode goes into a bit more detail, but if you’d like to talk more about this, please reach out via email or social media. ................. Scripture references: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9 "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13 More great info here: What is the Gospel? ...................... 28: Carey - TN to Mobile; mountains hurled into the sea

God had given us clear instructions: quit your job, live in the flip house, go to school and work in a church.  We were in awe of this calling, but the practical logistics soon proved to be daunting.   How would we sell our Tennessee house in a recession?  How could we afford a moving truck?  What kind of income would we have in Mobile?  Could we afford health insurance?   How would we pay for college tuition with zero savings?  These mountains seemed impossible and led me to many nights on my face, pleading with God for a bread crumb, some kind of reminder that He hadn’t forgotten us and that He had all of the details planned out.  Of course, He showed up bigger and better than we ever imagined…and just in time, too.  About this time in our story, the Lord prompted me to start writing out our story.  You can find those entries at sothattheywillthatiamgod.blogspot.com.  I recommend started at the very beginning and working your way forward to keep it in story form.   Of course, many of these stories will appear here on the podcast in time.   Our new sister podcast, Uncommon Marriage, will be launching soon!  Stay tuned to social media or sign up for email notifications below to catch the big release.  Sign up for email notifications and subscribe with your favorite podcast platform on our new website: thejourneypodcastwithcarey.com    Keep up with and share the Journey Podcast online and through social media:  Web: thejourneypodcastwithcarey.com  Facebook: The Journey Podcast  Instagram: @thejourneypodcastwithcarey  Email: thejourneypodcastwithcarey@gmail.com  #thejourneypodcastwithcarey #yourstoryhaspowertoo

27: Amanda - East Africa - A mighty fortress is our God

Amanda met her husband doing hut to hut evangelism in Africa.  Her dream was to take the message of the gospel to people who had never heard the name of Jesus.  His dream was to share Jesus with Muslim people groups.  The Lord beautifully orchestrated a place where they could do both.   When they arrived in East Africa, Amanda encountered fear in a new way.  There was suddenly paralyzing anxiety that had not existed before.  Worry and panic attacks began to plague her.   What if something happened to her?  What if something happened to her husband?  What if something happened to their kids?   The Lord met her in this battle and taught her how to turn to His Word for peace.  He taught her to change “what if” to “even if.”  He taught her how to surrender all things, even her life, into His trustworthy hands.   These lessons would prove invaluable as war came to their village.  Over the course of several years there were numerous attacks.  Each time, the Lord’s protective hand was present.  She was able to maintain her peace and seek refuge in the Lord, even as bullets flew outside her door.   Amanda’s story is proof that our God is with us.  While we will face struggles, He will never leave us.  He is a strong tower that cannot be moved.   She mentions that the Lord will often give her a song to help her process the events in her life.  Many of these songs have been published here on Sound Cloud. 26: Carey - stretching a buck and the call into ministry

In 2009 we were living with one income and two mortgages.  Money was tight, to say the least, and mathematically, the numbers didn’t add up.  But God’s math is not our math.  We tithed to the church consistently, we put our daughter in cloth diapers, I couponed systematically, we made our own baby food and laundry detergent and somehow, we never missed a meal or were late on a bill. The Lord used that season to teach us so many things about stewarding His money.  We went through Financial Peace University with Dave Ramsey and we learned how little we actually need.  This season of struggle taught us lessons that shaped our future.  Today, over a decade later, we are walking in the fruit of the hard lessons we learned then. On February 5, 2010, Nathan was running on a treadmill during his lunch break, training for a marathon.  The Lord met him in that space and gave him 4 very specific instructions.  Instructions that sounded ridiculous at the time, but yet undeniably perfect.  Jesus did a happy dance that night as He finally revealed what He’d been working on in our lives.  Like a master artist, He had been shaping us…preparing us for a calling, a shift in perspective and purpose.  We would no longer be living for ourselves and our tiny American dream, but our eyes would be opened to the greater calling He had for us…a complete surrender to His Kingdom vision. 25: Kathy, part 2 - Japan - What if we took a year to follow God?

We met Kathy in episode 2 and learned about how she met Jesus and He moved in her life.  In that episode, Kathy shared how she followed the Lord’s leading into strip clubs to love on the women there.  In 2017, Jesus brought a crazy idea across their path…what if they were to follow Him around the world, sharing the gospel and the love of Jesus as they go?  After much prayer, Kathy and her family sold many of their belongings, put renters in their house, and took off for Asia.  God asked them to support and encourage missionaries serving overseas.  Only trouble is, they didn’t know any missionaries serving overseas!  The Lord stayed a step ahead of them the whole way, opening doors and connecting them with His Body.  They watched children, supported Bible studies, cooked meals, helped with events, and served as a friend to many on their journey.  The experience lasted many months, led them through many countries, and changed them forever. When they returned to the US, they were not the same people.  They had grown and stretched in unexpected ways.  Kathy struggled to find her place again in a familiar city and is open about the depression and anxiety she battled in the months following their return.  But even then, the Lord was faithful to walk with them and lead them back to Himself and His Body of believers where they would find His healing and restoration.

24: Julie - USA - God sets the lonely in families

Julie was adopted as a baby and the Lord planted a dream in her heart to pass on the gift of adoption.  In college she hit a spell of rebellion which resulted in a disease diagnosis and estimated 5 years left to live.  She spent the coming months working through her relationship with the Lord and came to the conclusion that God is still good, no matter what.  He would later use that faith, grown in the valley, to carry her through a miscarriage, job loss, financial struggles and an 18 month wait to adopt her sweet baby from India.  Julie is quick to give the Lord praise and share of His mighty blessings.  She is honest about the challenges and joys that have marked her life…all of which are etched with the goodness of God.  Keep up with and share the Journey Podcast on social media:  Facebook: The Journey Podcast  Instagram: @thejourneypodcastwithcarey  Email: thejourneypodcastwithcarey@gmail.com  #thejourneypodcastwithcarey #yourstoryhaspowertoo

23: Carey - a move to Tennessee and the day that changed everything

I had worked so hard to complete my professional goals before tiny Anna was born.  Being a stay at home mom was all I had hoped it would be.  When Anna was 5 weeks old, Nathan’s company wanted to move us from south Alabama to East Tennessee, 8 hours away.  I resisted the idea at first, but after making the move we learned that the company was preparing to shut down Nathan’s plant in Alabama.  His bosses were working hard to save his job before plans of the shut down became public. The Lord was looking out for us. Once in Tennessee we spent our first few months with no schedule, no friends and no commitments.  We simply loved on our little family.  We bought too much of a house that put us further into financial strain and we found a church.  Not because it’s what we wanted to do, but because it’s what we knew how to do. I still had my doubts about the whole church bit and toyed with the idea of walking away from it altogether since I didn’t have any self-made reputation to keep up in this new city.  The Lord sent a friend to push me to attend a women’s conference.  That weekend away changed my life forever.  When I was finally willing to be honest and confess my pride and my hunger, the Lord met me in the most amazing way.  He heard me.  He saw me.  And He poured out freedom and peace on me that I didn’t know existed. That women’s retreat launched me into a season of insatiable hunger for Jesus.  He revealed Himself to me through worship and studying His Word. He taught me how to hear His voice and build confidence in His steps.  I would never be the same again.

22: BONUS - Carey reflects on Feb 9, 2020 - a fork in the road

On February 9, 2020, our family got on a plane and left China.  Today I need to record my heart for posterity and for future generations.  At that point, coronavirus was just a China issue.  We were going to spend a few weeks in the US while this virus business died down and then we'd go home.  We made a decision on Saturday afternoon to return to the States.  I packed suitcases with 1 week's worth of clothes for everybody.  We left dishes on the counter and pajamas on the floor.  Before sunrise on Sunday, we headed to the airport.  We didn't know we were walking away for good.  The 30 hours of travel from our city in China to the US were incredibly stressful, but the Lord cared for us each and every step of the way.  The year that followed has been full of unknowns and every emotion under the sun.  But on this day, one year later, I can see with so much more clarity.  We are choosing to be grateful for what we received instead of being bitter over what we lost.  It's been quite a journey. 21: Mary Beth, part 2 - Southeast Asia

For Glenn and Mary Beth, one phone call changed everything. One night the Lord laid a specific country on their hearts, challenging them to share the love of Christ there.  Trouble is, they had no connections to this country.  A while later, a customer service phone call busted those doors wide open.  Through simple obedience, a connection was made and a relationship was built. Over the last 16 years, Glenn and Mary Beth have traveled to this country in Southeast Asia well over a dozen times.  They’ve established a bible school to provide on site training to local pastors, helped to plant numerous churches and have seen countless lives restored to Jesus, changing the fate of generations. While you listen to their story, remember these promises from the Lord:  “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 ESV “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:14-16 ESV Glenn and Mary Beth’s story so beautifully captures these promises and brings them to life in the most amazing way! 20: Rianne - Netherlands, UK, Belgium

Episode 20: Rianne – Netherlands, UK, Belgium  “Some years you just feel like you’re battling through, but God is using it for His purposes.” When I hear Rianne’s story, I can’t help but think of Abraham when the Lord said, “I want you to leave your homeland and go to a place where I will show you.” As a young woman, she left her home country of the Netherlands, her language and her culture and followed the next step the Lord had for her.  She spent a few years in the UK, met her husband, spent time serving the Lord in Brazil and then found herself in yet another new culture in Belgium.  Often, she headed off to a new country without language skills or finances.  Yet fear is not part of her story.  She is so confident in the Father’s great love and plan for her that she has boldly followed Him anywhere.  Each turn brought it’s own set of challenges, but our God met them each so beautifully, because when we are weak, He is strong. Our time together concludes with the story of her youngest daughter’s birth.  She faced many challenges, but the Lord met each and every one of her requests, big and small, to bless her with a life changing birth experience. “Some years you just feel like you’re battling through, but God is using it for His purposes.” When I hear Rianne’s story, I can’t help but think of Abraham when the Lord said, “I want you to leave your homeland and go to a place where I will show you.” As a young woman, she left her home country of the Netherlands, her language and her culture and followed the next step the Lord had for her. 19: Carey - CPA exam, first seed for living abroad & first baby

All my life, all I wanted was to have babies and stay home.  That was about the biggest dream I could dream for myself. But first, I had to get through the blasted CPA exam.  In 2007 I busted my butt to study 5 days a week, on top of a full time accounting job, to make sure I passed that test on the first try! To my surprise, I passed the exam and came up with a positive pregnancy test at Christmas 2007. During my pregnancy, unbeknownst to us, God was casting vision for our future by sending Nathan on a business trip to Singapore.  Even though it would be years before we boarded a plane to move abroad, the Lord was already planting seeds.  What a kind, patient Father He is!  After a rocky, emergency delivery, we were overjoyed to welcome our first baby into the world and kick off the incredible chapter of parenting.  My dream of becoming a mother had come true and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
