#13 Zeke Sky (Zeke Sky Band, USA)
Episode in
The Major Lift
WELCOME BACK to The Major Lift Podcast.
I'm back from hiatus with Zeke Sky, American musician, bodybuilder & philosopher from the USA. It's been a little while since I've had the opportunity to talk with a guitarist, let alone such a fascinating intellect and down-to-earth character such as Zeke.
Enjoy this wide-ranging chat from all things music to philosophy. None of this was planned, and this is very much a 'getting to know you' with someone that I now regard as a cornerstone of sensible conversation and infectious wisdom in the world around me. It's not often you get to meet someone with such a great perspective and I'm certain you'll not leave this chat without learning something new about yourself!

#12 Jim Grey (Caligula's Horse)
Episode in
The Major Lift
It's finally here!
JIM GREY is the vocalist of Brisbane's CALIGULA'S HORSE. A familiar name right? If you've been here since the start of THE MAJOR LIFT you'll know that I play the (arguably, far less complicated) guitar parts in this band.
I've been wanting to have this chat with Jim for a long time. We've spent quite a few gym sessions talking smack and getting sweaty over the years and with Jim's history of extensive European and Australian touring, as well as backgrounds in PT, Sports and dance - he was a big part of why I thought podcasts like this could make for fascinating learning opportunities.Enjoy this conversation with Jim Grey!

#11 Kennet Waale (Sports Nutritionist + Exercise Scientist)
Episode in
The Major Lift
And now for something COMPLETELY different!
I've made it no secret that I'm fascinated by the biomechanics of musicians. So what better way to delve into some of the objective information around the way our body works than to bring on the FIRST EXPERT to feature on The Major Lift?Introducing KENNET WAALE - The Muscle Alchemist.
Ken excels in communicating earnestly, honestly and scientifically. His knowledge of the human body and how it can best perform is just one of the languages he's fluent in. (More on that in the podcast).
We talk about physiology, performing, tour health and for the FIRST TIME ON THE SHOW a video of how musicians can train for tour and recommendations on where to start. You'll be able to hear the audio of our interview at the end of this episode.
We breakdown the breakdowns of:
Mick Jeffery (TML #10) AVERSION'S CROWN
Dan Presland (TML #4) NE OBLIVISCARIS
Ryan Van Poederooyan (TML #6) THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT
Jim Grey (TML #12) CALIGULA'S HORSE

#9 Luke Williams (Dead Letter Circus)
Episode in
The Major Lift
Luke 'Licka' Williams is the drummer for Australian alt-rock legends Dead Letter Circus. He came highly recommended to the podcast through a number of mates that mentioned he had a penchant for being inspired and being inspirational. Prior to the recording, he asked if it was okay to talk about plant-based medicines. Not knowing what that meant at first, I was happy to go for it. When I realized what I was learning about, I was beyond intrigued to learn about his experiences and journeys of spirituality and the quality of life that he's found in it. Even though it deviated away from the usual theme of The Major Lift, I was incredibly excited to hear such a fresh new take on what healthy is.
Beyond that, Luke is an absolute talent. I was backstage at DLC's most recent Brisbane show at the Valley Drive-in and it struck me that Luke is more than just the drummer, his playing is a feature of the sound, and worth listening to in great detail. His persistent practice style and ability to be honest with himself is a joy to absorb.
A special thank you to Dale James from CATPAW Productions for the bump in audio quality on this one!

#8 The Bus (Tour Fitness Monologue)
Episode in
The Major Lift
Welcome to 2019!
I wanted to bring in the new year with a recollection of last year's tour of Europe and the UK. I truly think that this is a semi-unique experience. On one hand, we don't all get to do it. On the other hand, when you see just how many tour buses are around you in big bus carparks like at the O2 Stadium in London - it becomes apparent that there are thousands of people on the road every day.
This is my novice experience of 5 weeks on a tour bus, trying my best to stay fit, stay healthy and stay in touch with reality.
Spoiler: Insightful Failure ahead.

Episode in
The Major Lift
You may know Ryan Van Poederooyan from his unbelievably tight work with Devin Townsend over the last 15 years. But what you may not know is that Ryan or RVP is a motivational speaker, lifestyle coach and all around inspirational human.
I had the pleasure of fleetingly meeting Ryan during a live video shoot a few years ago for Devin Townsend's March of the Poozers. We stayed in contact here and there, and I knew that he was an absolute must for a show like this.
We speak about injuries, mindset, touring, diet and motivation in this hour-long blast of inspiration. Enjoy!

Dan Presland is the drummer for Ne Obliviscaris and a plethora of other studio-projects. We discuss his tour regiment (for European countries) his workout goals, expectations and psychology. As well as his experience with fasting, and fasted cardio!
Dan Endorses Vic Firth, Pearl drums, Zildjian cymbals and Remo.
