03 Primer
Episode in
The Mix
This week on The Mix, Chris, Josh, and Dan discuss Primer, the mother of all time-travel films. Primer was written, directed, produced, scored, and edited by Shane Carruth. Oh, and he also stars in the film. Primer is a mind-bending time travel story that is known to be difficult to fully understand even after multiple viewings. This 2004 winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival was released independently, but has gained a cult following over the years.
Then we introduce our new segment, Celebrity Encounters. This week, Josh tells the story of the time he met NBA legend, Tim Duncan in a hotel lobby. It was an encounter that didn’t go the way Josh had hoped.
Then we talk about things that we’re into at the moment. Josh recommends the Netflix series, Crossing Lines staring Donald Sutherland, Dan’s recommendation is the 1999 BBC series, Farscape, and Chris is currently into the podcast Surprisingly Awesome from Gimlet Media.
In our last segment, we cover more contemplative ideas. As film-makers and creators, seeing the film Primer was inspiring to each of us. The filmmaker, Shane Carruth was a software engineer who decided to make a film, and it turned into a cult classic. We discuss the journey of creating things that we are passionate about even when no one has given you permission.

00 Mic Check (Podcast Preview)
Episode in
The Mix
Welcome to our preview episode of The Mix. Every week we’ll bring you conversations about Movies, Television, Tech, Music, and pretty much anything else we’re into at the moment. This preview episode is pretty much nothing like what a typical podcast will be. Host Chris McLeod, and co-hosts Joshua Polite and Dan Folkers did a test recording to work out all the kinks in our new recording gear, and get the hang of talking to each other on Mic. We wanted to make sure that everything was running smoothly before we started recording the show. Basically a lengthy mic check. This preview episode is what came out of our conversation.
We talk about seeing Batman V Superman together in Dallas, and Dan and Chris had trouble staying awake… for reasons that had nothing to do with the movie itself. Dan tells us his unfulfilled plans of an epic photoshoot, and Chris tells the story of an interesting encounter he had with another Bills fan after a Bills Jets game. Basically trying to make each other laugh. We had initially decided on each watching the new Civil War movie and discussing it, but everyone watched the movie except for Chris.
