October 13th - Endless Scrolling

You pick up your phone to check one thing and twenty minutes later, the whole world feels terrible. This doesn't necessarily show us things that aren't real, it can show us one part of reality over and over until we mistake it for the whole thing. Today on The Morning Briefing, we're asking whether what we consume is helping us respond with compassion or simply feeding our fear.

Oct 12th - The Fear Loop

Fear grabs our attention and the more attention we give it, the more evidence we seem to find that we should be afraid. Today on The Morning Briefing, we're learning to recognize the cycle of fear, then attention, then more fear and then more attention and discovering that we don't have to solve every fear to begin breaking the cycle. Sometimes the first step is simply noticing, “I'm in the loop.”

Oct. 11 - Who Gets to Tell the Story

Twelve spies saw the same land, the same fortified cities, and the same powerful people but they told very different stories about what those facts meant. Fear often works the same way in our lives. Today on The Morning Briefing, we're separating our circumstances from the stories fear tells about them and remembering one important truth: God is part of the story too. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Oct. 10th - But What if I am Right?

Sometimes the thing we're afraid of really could happen. Biblical faith doesn't require us to pretend otherwise. In Daniel 3, three men facing a furnace declare both “God is able” and “even if He does not.” Today on The Morning Briefing, we're discovering a courage that doesn't depend on knowing the outcome only knowing that whatever comes, God will still be there. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Oct. 9 - This is Never Going to Change

Fear has a way of taking today's difficulty and turning it into a prediction about forever. In Psalm 13, David repeatedly asks God, “How long?” He doesn't pretend things are okay but he also refuses to let today's pain write tomorrow's ending. Today on The Morning Briefing, we're learning the important difference between “This hasn't changed yet”and “This will never change.” Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

October 8th - I'm Not Enough

Sometimes insecurity sounds surprisingly reasonable: "I'm just being realistic." Moses had plenty of reasons to believe God had chosen the wrong person but when Moses asked, “Who am I?” God didn't give him a motivational speech. He said, “I will be with you.” Today on The Morning Briefing, we're learning the difference between honestly recognizing our limitations and allowing those limitations to define what God can do through us. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Oct. 7th - What Will They Think?

Sometimes we change what we're going to do because of an opinion someone hasn't even expressed. Other people's voices matter but there's a difference between listening to people and living for their approval. Today on The Morning Briefing, we're asking who gets the most weight in our lives and what faithfulness looks like when not everyone understands or approves. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Oct. 6th - I'm Going to Fail

There's one guaranteed way to avoid failure: never try. But what might that cost us? Today on The Morning Briefing, Peter's famous attempt to walk on water gives us another way to think about failure. Yes, Peter sank but he also got out of the boat. Failure can hurt, teach, redirect, and humble us, but it doesn't have to define us. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Oct. 5th - What If?

Two little words can carry us into futures that haven't happened, 'What if?'  Fear takes uncertainty and begins writing a story often one where everything goes wrong. Today on The Morning Briefing, Jesus' words in Matthew 6 invite us to stop living tomorrow before tomorrow arrives. We can plan wisely without treating possibility like certainty. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to write the ending.

Virtual Gathering Oct. 4th - When Fear Shows Up

Fear is a normal part of life but it doesn't have to make our decisions for us. In Mark 4:35–41, the disciples find themselves caught in a very real storm while Jesus is in the boat with them. Their fear doesn't just react to the storm; it begins telling them a story: Jesus doesn't care. In this first gathering of our Fear Less series, we explore the difference between what's actually happening and the story fear tells us about it.

Oct. 4th - When Fear Shows Up

The disciples weren't imagining the storm. The wind was real. The waves were real. The boat was filling with water and they were afraid. But the storm wasn't the only thing that was true. Jesus was in the boat. Today on The Morning Briefing, Mark 4 reminds us that faith isn't pretending the storm isn't scary. It's remembering who's in the boat. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Oct 3 - What are you Feeding Fear

Fear may show up on its own but sometimes we help it grow. An unanswered message becomes rejection. One problem becomes ten imagined problems. One alarming headline becomes an hour of worst-case scenarios. Today on The Morning Briefing, we're asking what we're feeding our fear and learning to separate what we actually know from what fear has added to the story. Philippians 4 gives us a surprisingly practical place to begin: whatever is true, think about such things. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Oct. 2nd - What Are You Actually Afraid Of?

Sometimes the thing we're reacting to isn't the thing we're really afraid of. An unanswered phone call, a difficult conversation, an unexpected problem—what's on the surface may be pointing toward something deeper. Today on The Morning Briefing, we're getting curious about fear and asking what's underneath it. With David's prayer from Psalm 139 as our guide, we're inviting God to search our hearts, reveal what's really going on, and lead us forward. Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Oct. 1 - Fear Isn't the Enemy

What if being afraid doesn't mean you're failing at faith? As we begin October's new FEAR LESS series, we're starting with an important distinction: the goal isn't to become fearless. Fear is part of being human and sometimes it even tells us something important. The question is what happens after fear shows up. Today, we begin a month-long journey built around one simple truth: Fear may speak, but it doesn't get to decide.

Sept. 30 - Keep Showing Up

Thirty days ago, we began with a simple prayer: "Lord, teach us to pray." As our September journey comes to an end, we haven't mastered prayer and that was never the goal. Today's final reflection is about carrying what we've learned beyond September by doing one simple thing: keep showing up. Through answered prayers, silence, waiting, ordinary days, and difficult ones, the invitation remains the same: keep the conversation going.

Sept. 29th - When God Says Wait

Sometimes the hardest answer to prayer isn't yes or no but wait. In today's episode, we look at Psalm 27 and discover that biblical waiting isn't passive. It's choosing to trust God's character and live faithfully even while the answer remains unresolved. Your life doesn't have to be put on hold while you wait; God can meet you and shape you right in the middle of it.

Sept. 28th - When God Seems Silent

What do we do when we pray and nothing seems to happen? Psalm 13 shows us that Scripture doesn't dismiss the pain of God's apparent silence or offer easy explanations. Instead, David shows us how to keep bringing our questions, frustration, and sorrow directly to God. Sometimes faith isn't having all the answers and sometimes it's simply refusing to end the conversation.

Sept. 27th - Pray Continually

It's easy to say, "I need to pray more." It's much harder to turn that good intention into a way of life. Today we're getting practical about building a sustainable daily rhythm of prayer by connecting prayer to the ordinary moments already built into our days. As September begins to wind down, the goal isn't simply to finish a month about prayer, it's to build a rhythm that continues long after the month is over.

Sept. 26th - Pray Without Ceasing

What does it really mean to "pray without ceasing"? Does God expect us to pray every second of every day? Today we discover that continual prayer isn't about nonstop words, it's about living with a continual awareness of God's presence. This episode we're invited to carry prayer beyond a daily habit and into a lifelong conversation with our Heavenly Father.

Sept. 25 - Bold Prayers

Have your prayers become too safe? In today's episode, we explore what it means to pray with bold faith while still trusting God's perfect will. Looking at Ephesians 3, we're reminded that we pray to a God who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. Discover how bold prayers aren't about demanding our way, they're about confidently trusting the limitless power and faithfulness of God.
