HELEN MARSHALL

Helen is a great mate of mine and she inspires me to live my best life regularly! We got to sit down and have a chat again to talk all things getting out of your comfort zone to grow.\r\n Helen Marshall is a certified Primal Health Coach & founder of the grain free food range Primal Alternative.  Helen hosts the Primal Alternative Podcast on the Wellness Couch which is the number one ranked health and wellness podcast station in Australia.  \r\n She is a Motivational Speaker on grass roots community centric change, overcoming limiting beliefs and creating an exceptional life. Faced with a health crisis which included chronic nausea, constipation, insomnia, physical pain, headaches, brain fog, depression, anxiety and phobias, Helen returned to a diet of plants and animals to reclaim her health.  \r\n She ditched grains, sugar and seed oils and embraced sunshine, sleep, nature and connection. Helen qualified as a Primal Health Coach to let other women know that they were not on their own on their health journey and that they too could reclaim their health and change their life just with some diet and lifestyle tweaks and community behind them. But she got kick back, Helen’s clients told her that going grain free was hard – their were time poor and found themselves falling off the wagon.  \r\n People found it hard to go without pizza, bread, cookies and lollies. So Helen offered to create a range of Primal Alternatives to the foods people love to make going grain free easy. Helen was told that her products were life changing and she felt compelled to get the range to the whole of Australia but the thought of factories didn’t light her up and besides – she didn’t have any capital.\r\n Helen was inspired to share her successful baking business so that other women with a passion for clean living could start their own home business, doing what they love and make a difference in their community. The Primalista Baking Licence launched on Boxing Day 2016 and to date over 140 incredible women have said yes to this opportunity.  \r\n Primal Alternative now has an online store and over 250 stockists across Australia, the UK, New Zealand and the US. In 2017 Quirky Cooking collaborated with Primal Alternative to bring a ready made version of their Life Changing Dough to the community. \r\n Before ditching the rat race, Helen was a Fitness Instructor and Personal trainer then a Business Manager for a leading recruitment company in the city.  Helen has worked with women all of her life listening to their desires around health, work and lifestyle and has combined those skills to bring her greatest contribution yet – the Primalista Baking Licence.\r\n Helen lives on 100 acres of wilderness in Albany, WA with her husband Mike and their children Sam & Milly. She likes pilates, massage, coffee with her bestie, sunbathing, meditation, walks in nature and champagne in the spa.\r\n CONTACT:\r\n Website: www.primalalternative.com\r\n Facebook: Primal Alternative\r\n Instagram: @primalalternative\r\n Tracey McBeath Transformation Health Coach www.traceymcbeath.com.au\r\n Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tracey_mcbeath_healthcoach/\r\n Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/traceymcbeathhealthcoach\r\n Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/traceymcbeathhealthcoach/\r\n Free resources, one on one coaching, online programs and more. EPISODE 75: PETER BALLERSTEDT, PHD

Who is this guy and what’s he about? I’m trained as a forage agronomist and ruminant nutritionist. I received my Doctorate from the University of Kentucky in 1986 and I joined the faculty of Oregon State University as the Extension Forage Specialist. In 2007 I realized that I was an obese pre-diabetic. I am no longer either, thanks to several clinicians, researchers and authors. About a decade ago I started to attend and then speak at international conferences focused on therapeutic carbohydrate reduction and metabolic health. I’ve gotten to learn a great deal about human nutrition and metabolic health while I’ve been on this health-restoration journey. I’ve also come to appreciate the gaps that exists between science and policy, and between agricultural producers and the rest of society. To bridge these gaps, I’ve become an advocate for forage and ruminant animal agriculture, and the essential role of ruminant animal products in human health and flourishing. About ten years ago I started blogging and posting on social media about what I called Grass Based Health (“Grass Roots Health” was already taken). It represents that integration of what I’ve learned – healthy soils, healthy plants, healthy animals, and healthy people, all thanks to ruminant animal agriculture. It also reflected my previous belief about the superior nutritional quality of grass-fed livestock products. I no longer hold that position and the name reminds me of that journey. The fact that approximately 96% of what the global domestic ruminant herd consumes is not human-edible plant material justifies calling ruminant animal agriculture “grass based.” The “Ruminati” grew out of the people who had seen my presentations or read my postings. It is my name for those people who understand to some degree some portion of the production-through consumption landscape and the disciplines that serve it. I’ve been given the title of Don Pedro, aka the SodFather. While I’m absolutely serious about the essential role of animal source food in the human diet, and the unique advantages of ruminant animal agriculture in producing those foods, I believe that humor (at least what I think is humor) is helpful in building bridges. The “Meet Your Herdmates” Sodcast is a new effort to introduce members of the Ruminati to each other, so that we might all learn from each other. We have both following him and learnt from him over the years, and have both seen the huge health improvements because of that. I hope you enjoy this chat I had with Dr Ken. From Dr Ken Berrry... I have been practicing Family Medicine in rural Tennessee for over a decade, and have seen over 20,000 patients in my career so far. No big medical words here, just plain talk you can use to stay healthy and happy. If you like it limp-wristed and sugar-coated then you should probably look somewhere else. I’ll explain how you can use your diet and your lifestyle to get the health you want. Videos about the low-carb/ketogenic/carnivore diets, intermittent fasting, thyroid health, hormone optimization and much more. EPISODE 67: LISA PARKINSON ROBERTS (PhD)

Lisa Parkinson Roberts has two children, two stepchildren, and two grandchildren (not to mention a dog, pig, cat, chickens, and an axolotl), and has worked in the field of health and nutrition for many years. Holding a honours degree in exercise and sports science, and a PhD in nutrition science she has published 10 peer reviewed articles. While working on her PhD she saw the amazing connection between compounds in food, inflammation, and disease and gained understanding of the strength of this connection on both physical and mental health.  Having suffered mental illness for most of her life, Lisa set out to get off medication and thrive rather than just survive; something she is presently doing by using food as medicine for her mind and other lifestyle strategies. EPISODE 66: DR BEN BIKMAN

What a treat getting to chat to this man! In this podcast you will learn where things are going wrong with our health today, and what we can do about it. When we can understand the lever that is insulin - and thus insulin resistance - we gain back a lot of control over our own health. In terms of the lipid values we talked about: In the US, values are expressed as mg/dl: Ben was talking that the ratio of triglycerides to HDL should be less than 1.5. In Australia, values are expressed as mmol/L, the ratio of trigs to HDL should be less than 0.87. I encourage you to buy Ben's book: Why We Get Sick. It is an an excellent read, and while he is a Professor, he puts things in really easy to understand terms. A true gentleman and a lovely man in every way. Benjamin Bikman earned his Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and was a postdoctoral fellow with the Duke-National University of Singapore in metabolic disorders. Currently, his professional focus as a scientist and associate professor (Brigham Young University) is to better understand the role of elevated insulin in regulating obesity and diabetes, including the relevance of ketones in mitochondrial function. You can find Ben on all channels of social media, and here on his website: BIKMANLAB.BYU.EDU. ******** http://www.traceymcbeath.com.au tracey@traceymcbeath.com.au Instagram: @tracey_mcbeath_healthcoach Facebook: Tracey McBeath Health Coach To purchase the Summit Replay: http://bit.ly/longweekendreplay If you are a health practitioner and are interested in learning how to bring low carb in to your practice and reverse insulin resistance in your patients, the Nutrition Network has a number of programs to help.
