Episode 106: Kill! Maim! Burn! World Eaters

Episode 106: Kill! Maim! Burn! World Eaters Release Episode 106 is drowning in red as the Red Angel storms back into real space at the head of the 12th Legion Astartes World Eaters and the Segmentum Solar trembles in fear! That and Lachlan is back this episode as guest host – I’m not sure which is more scary! Thank You to Games Workshop for supplying us a copy of the new codex and models early for this episode. With the amazing new range of models we dive right and talk plastic – specifically what we thought of building these new kits… but also some “missing” kits that could have been done easily and in line with other releases to really round out the range. Angron is as amazing in person as you would hope and Lachlan (Tuxedo Miniatures) did an amazing job on him I think you will agree! This chat then moves into the codex and rules again with some lamentation but also some hope – the World Eaters may be psychotic killing machines but every now and again they can outsmart an enemy and the codex is a great reflection of this paradigm. Did you love the new style the World Eaters have in this release? Did you agree with us that a couple of little additions would have made the release more complete? Are you looking forward to the Red Angel across the table from you? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Episode 105: No-one tosses a Dwarf! (Votann part 2)

Episode 105: No-one tosses a Dwarf! (Votann part 2!) Episode 105 has Emma back in the drivers seat and joins me to talk Leagues of Votann aka the Squats! Thank You to Games Workshop for supplying us a copy of the new army box early for this episode so I can play this game! *I will add that this episode was recorded while Games Workshop was releasing the Errata and points updates! It means some of our ideas will not be needed!* Check out the Video and Downloads on the Leagues of Votann from GW direct! The Leagues of Votann has been a polarising release for gamers with leaks a plenty, half-truths and rules fragments. I put them on the table against a strong Necron list to see what happens against a patron and friend of the show – Jason. The first game with Votann gave some interesting insights into how they might play and things you might need to think about when writing a list and deploying them. My luck when it comes to one shot weapons continues and I see a heavy conversion beamer in my future instead of a heavy rail gun on a certain land fortress. We already have some interesting results, and more games will come…. They will even go on stream once the real models are available! For now, podcasts and proxies will be the order of the day but once they are here it wont be long for some live viewing games! Have you dug yourself a hole and joined the Leagues? Do you think they need a significant rework or is it all the bogeyman talk? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Scroll to the bottom to stream it now or grab it from iTunes – Be sure to leave us a review on iTunes if you grab it there. Episode 104: They’re Squats Dammit! (Leagues of Votann)

Episode 104: They’re Squats Dammit! (Leagues of Votann) Episode 104 and a special guest host – our son Lachlan… has dung himself out of a hole and joins me to talk Leagues of Votann aka the Squats! Thank You to Games Workshop for supplying us a copy of the new army box early for this episode! The Leagues of Votann has been a polarising release for gamers with leaks a plenty, half truths and rules fragments. Well the other content creators showed us some issues and this is us making suggestions on how to fix them! We cover the rough issues with points, some of the flaws with the rules and also highlight some of the narrative that seems to be blown out of proportion. For the record – our suggestions outside of blanket points increases are as follows… 1 – Change Judgement tokens to only be gained 1 per enemy unit per battle round regardless of source. 2 – Change Void Armour to be reduce the ap of attacks by 1 if the ap is -2 or -1. 3 – Change Void Armour so that anything not in armour doesn’t get it! (remove from Berzerks, Pioneers, Grimnyr, Iron Smith) 4 – Change Void Armour to only preventing rerolls to damage (remove the wound limit) 5 – Change Magna Rail so that a max of 3 wounds can overflow regardless of how many are left over after a target is slain. There – all fixed! Thank us later! Have you dug yourself a hole and joined the Leagues? Do you think they need a significant rework or is it all the bogeyman talk? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Episode 103: Death to the False Emperor (CSM first look)

Episode 103: Death to the False Emperor (CSM first look) Episode 103 and the CSM (or Chaos Space Marines) are here and that means a special guest host – our son Lachlan… a decision I may come to regret but here we go! Lachlan and I do a (nearly 3 hour!) hot take on the codex, exploring our first impressions of the new rules, the legions and the data sheets. We laugh at the insanity of possessed and enjoy the fact marks of chaos actually do things now! Best of all, this book has no really feel bad options – everything feels like you can build an army and make it work. I know some CSM players are upset about some of the changes but we really do feel like overall this book is a good step forward for the forces of the warmaster. We chat very quickly about the index astartes – World Eaters as well and offer our thoughts on what the new codex might bring. Lachlan has also reminded me to link in my old heresy era CSM army – the Emperors Children – you can find them HERE. Which legion has called to you and seen you join a side? Do you think Mikes unhealthy obsession with Creations of Bile is due to his time with the Drukhari or something darker? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Episode 102: Let the galaxy burn! – Horus Heresy

Episode 102: Let the galaxy burn! – Horus Heresy Episode 102 is here and the galaxy burns with righteous fury and retribution. Three plus hours again but this time it’s a binary conversation – do you side with the Warmaster or the Master of mankind in the Horus Heresy? This episode see us delve into the new Age of Darkness box game for ‘The Horus Heresy’ by Games Workshop (thanks to GW for giving us a box early to review!) We check out the new releases, talk about what we think about the aussie pricing, discuss some of the awesome design cues and hints and discover Mike has kept his traitor roots and decided Goth isn’t Goth enough and that Night Lords are the way this box needs to be painted. We even have some sneak peaks of the converted Praetors and the Spartan ready for its consecration in blood and darkness. We then have a local hobby veteran Sam join us to talk about the past and future of Heresy gaming here in Western Australia, some of the hesitancy of the existing player base for this new version of the game and his hopes for the future. It was really good to catch up with Sam and I look forward to murdering… I mean meeting… his Ultramarines on a table soon! Which legion has called to you and seen you join a side? What did you think of the new(old) dice sets? Why was Horus right all along? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Episode 101: On the road again (Aeldari at an event!)

Episode 101: On the road again – Aeldari at an Event! Episode 101 follows 100 with three plus hours of us yammering on again with much of it about Aeldari – seems to be something of a trend! You would think we could keep the times down after 100 episodes but here we are. This episode has a massive sequence of news, Adepticon reviews and most importantly coverage of the 2022 Ironman event hosted by the Toy Soldier Cartel and Beyond Odyssey. 5 games in 1 day was a massive day but I was rewarded with 3rd place for my efforts only losing to the eventual winner!   By the time this episode hits your ears we will also have released our unboxing video of the new Aeldari Avatar and Shining Spears – both amazing kits in their own right. Thanks to Games Workshop for supplying them for us to review! They even updated the Autarch data sheet recently! find that HERE We also picked up from Hobbytech Toys the new Nachmund Kill team box though Mikes excitement got the better of him and he built the new Corsairs with no unboxing or sprue photos! Might just have to buy a second box to get those I think… With wave 2 of the Aeldari now on the way, what did you think about the bloody handed god and his spears? Did you buy Nachmund? Did you see how awesome the new Horus Heresy trailer was? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Episode 100: Gods among mere mortals (Aeldari Review!)

Episode 100: Gods among mere mortals – Aeldari Review Its episode 100 baby! I can’t believe we made it this far – its pretty exciting to be honest. We took a much-needed break after episode 99 and what do we do? We come back with our biggest episode yet – 4+ hours of our banter! What could bring us to have such a mammoth episode I hear you ask? Well, it just so happens that our 100th episode lines up with the release of Mikes favourite 40k faction – the Aeldari! Craftworlds and Corsairs and Harlequins Oh My! Giddy is one word to describe just how much excitement was in the house as the book and new models arrived. Be sure to check out the article on our website for Mikes first impressions and check out the YouTube channel for unboxing videos and more about the new Aeldari release. We get comparison photos of the new models across the decades, and you will get a firsthand look at the sprues as we open the boxes. Its all assembled now and on the paint table in the que. Can you hear Mikes excitement in this episode? Do you think this cycle of green aeldari means more Drukhari a decade from now (obviously they would be green!) Are you just as excited for this release? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Episode 97: Cursed City

Episode 97: Cursed City Sometimes a box game like Cursed City lands and it can go one of 2 ways. The minis are amazing but the core game is boring/too easy/overly complex/some other issue OR it can be fun, intuitive, easy to pick up but complex and difficult enough to keep you wanting more. Warhammer Quest Cursed City is the later – and what a game it is. After Mperor notified me they had an extra copy I could lay my hands on I snapped it up and we are here to give you our first impressions having just played our first mission with our 3 kids (16, 14 & 8). We dove into the cursed city and braved the horrors, saw our son become a man, our daughters take control of their destiny and their mum… run away and leave them to figure it out?!? We take a look at the new Castellan Crowe model, talk all things beast snagga orks and then talk about the new version of kill team and its trailer incoming and the 5 things GW thinks you need to know about it. Once again we have an issue to resolve as TO’s with the ork book for events but otherwise it’s an exciting time to be in 40k! Did I mention we did a react video to the Kill team trailer HERE? While Western Australia is all but returned to normal, we want to make sure you are all looking after yourselves during this trying quarantine period – if you need help from more than your present support network (and are in Western Australia) you can contact Beyond Blue (1300 22 46 36), Life line (131 114) or Crisis Care (089223 1111). Episode 96: Life of a TO

Episode 96: Life of a TO The life of a TO – or tournament organiser – is one fraught with trials, tribulations and plans. Even the best laid plans need help once in a while and it turns out Emma and I had the same idea when it came to this episode. Its time to once again pull back the veil on the life of a TO. We talk all things about being a TO, from terrain and logistics to how best to know when you are ready to grow and scale up your events or how to set expectations. It’s a complex and varied world we operate within and we are all about transparency so it’s a pretty frank discussion. We also talk Warhammer Plus (you can find the videos for the launch HERE and HERE) which we are super keen to see more on (as well as know just how much it will be here in OZ!) as well as the new terrain layouts being shown for the US open 40k series. We come across as a little critical but be have nothing but the upmost respect and admiration for Mike and the team who are running these events in the USA. If you are outside of Western Australia we really encourage you checking out your local provider of mental health via your preferred search engine. What do you think about Warhammer plus? How do you feel about the terrain layouts? Do you have a question you want us to answer? Do you have a recommendation for Emma for Netflix? Episode 94: I am the Law

Episode 94: I am the Law When you decide to play your first tournament, asking for a judge to resolve an issue (or lay down the law) seems to be something a lot of players struggle with – so much so that even when we say it before every event we still get queries days, or even weeks, after an event and confusion around a rules issue that would be easily resolved on the spot. We talk about just how you can approach this topic and some of the mental hurdles you might face. The 4 main pieces of news can be summed up as – new streaming service (interesting to see how that plays out), new underworlds warband (who doesn’t like that crab honestly!?!), new FAQ’s for 40k (yes they did some amazing quality if life changes!) and most importantly the new Age of Sigmar (oh my god this looks so good!) While Western Australia is all but returned to normal, we want to make sure you are all looking after yourselves during this trying quarantine period – if you need help from more than your present support network (and are in Western Australia) you can contact Beyond Blue (1300 22 46 36), Life line (131 114) or Crisis Care (089223 1111). If you are outside of Western Australia we really encourage you checking out your local provider of mental health via your preferred search engine. How do you go with asking for a judge when you have a query at the table? Are you like Mike and don’t mind advocating for yourself or would you find it uncomfortable? Episode 93: Identity Crisis

Episode 93: Identity Crisis Warhammer 40,000 seems to be back on the menu for most of the world with restrictions being lifted around the world – but is that very situation causing an identity crisis for organisers? We have house rules and home brew FAQ’s now showing up for major events and it feels (to me at least) like a step away from the idea that we would all play the same game. We have always tried to run Objective Secured events using rules as written (or RAW) as much as we can as it allows us to be consistent in how things are played. What we have started to see is more organisers publishing their own documents to fix or balance the game as they see it should be – that’s a topic worth covering. We do talk a lot about the WTC FAQ document – you can find that file HERE. To be clear, as fellow organisers, we have nothing but respect and admiration for the work the WTC team do in creating their document for their event and always seeking the best result for their attendees. We know just how hard that can be! If you are outside of Western Australia we really encourage you checking out your local provider of mental health via your preferred search engine. How do you feel about using organisers own FAQ documents? How would you feel about using the WTC FAQ? Would this change depending on if you are playing away from how or not? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Episode 92: Under the Microscope

Episode 92: Under the Microscope Streaming games of Warhammer 40,000 (or any tabletop game for that matter) are definitely under the microscope right now after a notable player was caught playing in an otherwise sporting manner. While this episode does not delve into the idea of cheating and unsportsmanlike conduct it does tackle some of the questions and ideas surrounding streaming and what the future of that might look like. We cover the first 4 days of Warhammer Fest as well as the new synthetic brushes and why they might have gone this way over sable with some claims from an industry insider. The Warhammer Fest previews host some amazing models including what could be model of the year – a giant crab! For the topic – we cover 3 questions, should players who end up on a stream… 1. have the option to decline playing on camera 2. be remunerated for playing on camera 3. have some protection/assurance from the streamer/organiser that they will not be unfairly targeted during or post event We would love to hear your thoughts on this one and stay tuned for the survey to follow! If you are outside of Western Australia we really encourage you checking out your local provider of mental health via your preferred search engine. This topic is a complex one we know – and we scratch at the surface from a few angles but we would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Scroll to the bottom to stream it now or grab it from iTunes – Be sure to leave us a review on iTunes if you grab it there. Episode 91: The Land Down Under

Episode 91: The Land Down Under\r\n\n\n\n\nWe are down in Albany for Line Breaker 2021 for this episode and have recorded it live the night before the event – its noisy and loud and that’s before we started the mics!\r\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s a live episode and on the short side for us but it gives you some insight into the fun and excitement that is Warhammer camp down under. Mike is also very keen as it looks like he will be playing as the ringer for the day – its one of the few times he gets to play at our own events!\r\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile Western Australia is all but returned to normal, we want to make sure you are all looking after yourselves during this trying quarantine period – if you need help from more than your present support network (and are in Western Australia) you can contact Beyond Blue (1300 22 46 36), Life line (131 114) or Crisis Care (089223 1111). We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you!\r\n\n\n\n\nEnough reading – go listen! Episode 90: Drukhari – Pray they don’t take you alive

Episode 90: Pray they don’t take you alive\r\n\n\n\n\nI might very well be sat here writing this post like some crazy bond villain, muttering to myself about feasting in the souls of my victims… I may have gone a touch crazy thanks to the new Drukhari codex! That’s ok though, I’m sure its something I will get over… maybe…\r\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are talking part 1 of our coverage of the new Drukhari Codex, with thanks to Games Workshop for giving us an advance copy to check out. We usually don’t get them early enough for these episodes but Australia Post must have been worried about the pain I would inflict if I got it late so it arrived a few days pre release which I am calling a win!\r\n\n\n\n\nWe cover a bunch of new stuff from GW including 2 of their ‘Model Monday’ previews, a redemptionist and a truly sensational Vampiress as well as the most recent live preview which showed off a host of new content – including new Sisters of Battle and Orks!\r\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis episode for the Drukhari is a scratch the surface of army wide rules and building, there is a lot to unpack here so expect a follow up in the coming weeks!\r\n\n\n\n\nWhile Western Australia is all but returned to normal, we want to make sure you are all looking after yourselves during this trying quarantine period – if you need help from more than your present support network (and are in Western Australia) you can contact Beyond Blue (1300 22 46 36), Life line (131 114) or Crisis Care (089223 1111). If you are outside of Western Australia we really encourage you checking out your local provider of mental health via your preferred search engine.\r\n\n\n\n\nDrukhari have infested Mikes 40k world again – will they do the same for you? Have you decided to join the dark city and stake your claim to wealth and power among the dark kin? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you!\r\n\n\n\n\nEnough reading – go listen! Episode 89: Trying Something New

Episode 89: Trying Something New      Trying something new can be a daunting prospect, reflecting on how it all panned out can be just as tough! So of course, we decided to do that reflection on air for you all to hear! We are talking First Blood 2021 and the incursion format today. We talk about the highs and lows of this, the 6th annual First Blood 40k event. Incursion presented a whole host of new challenges, possibilities and ideas and we have already taken a lot of great learning from this event for future events. You can check out the Goonhammer write up for the event and its winners HERE. You can also check out the photo gallery HERE, give James a like while you are there! We cover a bunch of new stuff from GW which we have missed in the rescheduling of our commitments including a new vampire, THE daemon prince, new animation projects, the new campaign expansion for 40k, a new local aussie critter and new bloodbowl info to name just a few! This amazing space wolf was part of the winning players (and judges!) choice awards at First Blood. If you are outside of Western Australia we really encourage you checking out your local provider of mental health via your preferred search engine. Have you played incursion missions before? Did you play at first blood? What do you think of sports scoring and how best to handle it? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen! Scroll to the bottom to stream it now or grab it from iTunes – Be sure to leave us a review on iTunes if you grab it there. Episode 88: Agony of Choice

Episode 88: Agony of Choice     Alice and her looking glass never had to decide on how to score a 40k tournament, so I think she had it easy! Choosing how to give players the best experience is no easy thing and its easy to end up in an echo chamber ‘knowing’ you are right. We like to do our thinking out loud so you can point out things we miss and understand why we do what we do and this episode is just that! We talk about the idea of a scoring differential in a 40k tournament situation, something we have been big advocates for in previous editions of the game – but 9th is a new beast and it always pays to look at things we know and re-evaluate them with the most recent information in mind. Plenty of news out of Games Workshop as well with Black Libraries annual weekender, a massive Age of Sigmar preview, the new kill team box that’s incoming and we even squeezed a game of Bot War in recently you can check out on our Youtube channel. If you are outside of Western Australia we really encourage you checking out your local provider of mental health via your preferred search engine. What do you think about the idea of differential scoring for 40k? Is it a needed thing or have we moved past it being essential? Is there another angle as to why we should look at it again? Which would be your choice for scoring? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you! Enough reading – go listen!
