EP 6: Notes Between The Notes - Microtonal Records

Harry Partch and Wendy Carlos are two artists who saw the possibilities of using notes and scales that Western listeners weren't attuned to, and that other cultures had been using for centuries. Here's two records that came out of those endeavors.  Music:  "Prologue...", "Scene 1..." & "Scene 5..." by Harry Partch  "Poem for Bali" & "Just Imaginings" by Wendy Carlos  This Occhiolist Playlist Podcast episode constitutes a fair-use of any copyrighted material as provided for in Section 107 of the US Copyright law. EP 5: Sound Healing - Early New Age Records

"New Age" music is a broad and vaguely-defined genre of many sounds and styles from the '60's onward, emulating the philosophies of the New Age movement. Though the music under this label has no singular sound, one shared trait is the use of sound for the purpose of healing. The records I chose for this episode are some of the earliest examples of such purpose. "Prahna (Life Force)", "Sahasrara (Highest Chakra)" and "Shanti (Peace)" by Tony Scott  "Prayer for Aphrodite", "Beautiful Friend" and "Lunamuse" by Kay Gardner  "Formentera Sunset Clouds", "Crystal Petals", "Lanua Cove", and "The Bubble Massage" by Iasos  This Occhiolist Playlist Podcast episode constitutes a fair-use of any copyrighted material as provided for in Section 107 of the US Copyright law. EP 2: Enlightening Beams - Albums of Divine Influence

In this episode, I talk about two artists whose music comes from a place of divine influence. However, their stories are quite different than your typical "divine intervention" stories. Music featured, in order of appearance: "Life Child", "Quasar One", "Balloon", "Mind Island", "Long Long Time" & "Glass Top Coffin" by Ramases "Hawaii", "Axonda", "I Must Be Born", "Mambo Che Chay", "Waterfall Of Love", "Motherless Child" & "Hawaii Nei I'll Miss You" by Bobby Frank Brown This Occhiolist Playlist Podcast episode constitutes a fair-use of any copyrighted material as provided for in Section 107 of the US Copyright law. EP 1: There's A Wave Coming In - '60's & '70's Bay Area Bands

Southern California exported its own brand of weirdness in the late 1960's and early 1970's. For every band that became a huge success, like Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead, there are other groups who performed for a short time, made their statement and then disappeared or disbanded. From cease and desist letters from the Salvation Army to exploding records, here's a few albums I have from bands that just scrape the surface of how "far-out" those times were. Music, in order of appearance: "Yuk-Yuk", "Come On Over Here", "She Said Yeah", "Think Twice" & "Salvation Jam" by Salvation. "Ouroboros Part 1 & 2" by The Serpent Power "3 Songs" (featured twice, at the start and end of their segment), "II Car Raga" and "One Of A Kind" by 1 [One] This Occhiolist Playlist Podcast episode constitutes a fair-use of any copyrighted material as provided for in Section 107 of the US Copyright law.
