P2B 066: What Ideas Should You Kill in Your Business?

In this week’s podcast, I get to share one of my most beloved subjects, which is video! Video marketing for business is revolutionizing how we consume and share content. As small business entrepreneur began to dive into video marketing for your business, it’s important to know exactly how to get started with video and we have an in-depth session discussing what you need to know and DO to get started! Startup Quick Tip of the Week Grammarly.com (Online Grammar & Editing Tool) This week’s quick tip of the week is my favorite online web applications that I literally use on every computer, and that’s Grammarly! When you’re up late creating content, working after a long day, or just plain ole do not feel like proofreading – this is the app for you. The best part about it is – it’s free! Whether it’s forgetting a comma, misspelling words, or correcting your subject-verb agreements in an essay, Grammarly can save your butt when it comes to editing. Definitely, consider adding it to your arsenal if your an avid writer of anything online. Let’s address the word “Should” Although I use the word “should” in this podcast episode, and frankly many others, what you actually “should” do is up to you. Even though I appreciate the respect given to me when others ask for advice on certain issues, I use this word hesitantly because it’s a word that can lead others to action and if you’re not careful you can find yourself somewhere you don’t want to be. Please know that when I say “should” either I really mean it or I’m bringing a topic to your attention that deserves a good ponder to lead you to YOUR ideal outcome – not just what I say. Just want to put that on the table, especially for this episode. Extreme Transparency In the previous podcast episode, I shared video marketing tips and why it’s important to begin to introduce video into your business. There are a few reasons for this that I go over in the episode. I literally do not feel I can do this episode justice this week with a quick synopsis in blog or summary format. You truly have to listen to it. I really do share some of my own personal fears, doubts, and hesitations when it comes to making decisions’ in my business and this and last week has been full of them! “What should I do?” is something we’ve all found ourselves asking when we reach a tough hurdle in life or our business, and it’s the same when it comes to the decisions we have to make. This question has never been more important – more vital in my life than it is right now….and on this episode, I share that. Using Video Marketing for Business – How to Get Started with Video

Startup Quick Tip of the Week The Purple Panda Lapel Microphone This week’s quick tip of the week is my most beloved microphone, the Purple Panda Lapel Microphone. It’s an absolute STEAL at $20 with all the accessories it includes, along with a very high-quality microphone. Just the one accessory that is a TRS to TRRS connector cable can cost $20 by itself! When I discovered this microphone I was in Heaven and still am! If you need a, literally, do everything microphone – nothing ranks higher in my book!  You can pick one up at Amazon HERE for less than $20! Why is Video Marketing so HOT right now? There are some trends that quickly go in and out of style, but that’s not what Video Marketing is right now. It’s not a style, it’s not a fad – it’s a literal industry shift and you’re sitting right in the middle of it! In an article by Forbes, they state: 73% of brands that post video on Instagram see 1.2 times the interaction rate of the average brand! They also predict that “by 2020, nearly 80% of total global internet traffic will be driven by video.” That’s insane! Plus, it’s only bound to grow more as the years progress forward and technology continues to advance at an alarming rate. They go on to further share how Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, shares how Facebook has moved from being mobile first to video first. 4 Critical Questions Every Entrepreneur Should Answer Throughout this podcast, we’ll elaborate and discuss some of the most important questions you may ask yourself this year if you are open and honest to reach your greatest desires but being open to addressing your greatest fears. Being afraid of the dark doesn’t count. Some of our fears can be justified because there is a true threat back of the fear. A fear of heights for the sake of falling, a fear of roller coasters for the sake of crashing in a horrid way. Those fears are understandable but what about the fear you can’t do it? What about the fears that you aren’t good enough? Or, there’s no way someone would pay you that much money to do XYZ.There can be many things that plague an entrepreneur but fear is always one of them. To remove any fears and doubts, in the book The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, he asks several questions for us to ponder, but I point out the following four for you to think on. What do I most love to do? (That I could do for long stretches of time without getting bored.) What work do I do that doesn’t seem like work? (That specifically is fulfilling once I’ve completed doing it.) In my work, what produces the highest ratios of abundance and satisfaction to the time spent? What is my unique ability? (Cliff Ravenscraft (podcastanswerman.com) helps describe this as the skill within a skill, within a skill) While it’s easy to just jump into the next piece of content and hurry up and produce an answer to these questions, I believe you provide a great disservice to yourself, the growth of your business, and your true desire by simply just jotting something down. Really consider, with your fears and doubts obliterated, what would you really want to experience in your business and in your life? This week’s podcast touches on one of the greatest books and topics I believe will ever read in my life and is already causing major positive shifts in my business. To pursue your greatest desires we’re going to discuss just exactly what that means and how you can pursue your greatest desires in your personal life and your business! This content will expand and much further in-depth on some topics that have previously been mentioned but not discussed fully. From hiring your first employee, how you really build your personal brand, understanding contracts and other areas of entrepreneurship. Make sure you’re subscribed and select the bell notification to get updates for when new videos are released or we’re having an upcoming community hangout! What is your great desire that you want in life and in your business? As we grow and develop in our business we have to consistently make changes that will positively impact our business and position ourselves for growth. When posed with the question, “What is your great desire in life and/or in your business?”, it causes you to really think beyond any fears or limitations, what the true answer to that question is going to be. How we choose to handle these situations make the biggest difference and what we choose to say or not say can determine who we draw to our business and who we can potentially offend. 4 Critical Questions Every Entrepreneur Should Answer Throughout this podcast, we’ll elaborate and discuss some of the most important questions you may ask yourself this year if you are open and honest to reach your greatest desires but being open to addressing your greatest fears. P2B #62: Why You Need to Build an Email List, Now!

No matter what area of business you’re in, building an email list is critical to managing, building, and communicating with your current and potential customers. In this week episode, I share how you can make your business future proof to economic downturns, identify your next best product and discover the wants and needs of your customers. Startup Quick Tip of the Week ConvertKit This week’s quick tip of the week is the email management system I use and recommend which is the one and only ConvertKit. Free email management systems seem as if they will do the job, until you start getting knee deep in your business only to realize you’ve climbed a latter on the wrong wall. When it comes to having a great email management system you want it to be able to give you the data you need to best serve your email community and not just names on “a list”. ConvertKit is offering a 14-Day Free Trial only good until September 5th, 2017. Click here to get your free trial! When you check out ConvertKit by clicking on the affiliate link above, you’ll receive a free 14 Day Free Trial.  (Available Until Sept 5th, 2017) Why You Need to Build an Email List – Now! No matter how the wind blows, you want to be in a position to know what your customers want and how they want it. Unless you know, you’ll feel lost, whether you have an email list or not! When you don’t have an email list and figure, “Facebook isn’t going anywhere, I can just use it as my website and contact my audience directly.” – Tell that to those that built their business on Vine or MySpace. Big giants can fall. Building an email community gives you the ability to build a community on land that you control. #1 Connect with Your Community Directly (the way you want to) You want to find a service that will allow you to fully operate and the systems you need to connect with your community. Some email providers attempt to nickel and dime you for each new service that becomes available. You want something that will allow you to: add links & pictures in your emails categorize your community by interests segment your lists by characteristics – not by the number of emails send emails only to certain individuals based on what their interested in Being able to craft your emails as individuals with specific interests versus an email address that signed up for multiple lists and being counted as 3 different people. #2 Begin Increase Your Reach & Engagement When you think of the statistics and the amount of reach and engagement that Facebook provides through having a business page, it’s insane! #3 Get TaxBot This is the most simple and most important step you will take in your business and I will go in-depth into the why in the Startup Tip for the Week quite extensively. However, there’s no other way around it except to hire on your staff an accountant that specializes in small businesses. This may cost hundreds of dollars a year, but totally worth it. Taxbot is $9.99 a month. #4 Familiarize Yourself with Your Specific Area of Business You’ll have hundreds of questions on “how to” do XYZ, but the important thing is to answer the most important question of all ~ the one that is most important for you to understand. When you simplify your questions to just figure out 1 thing and you search like a hound with the scent, you can then move on to the next pressing question in your business. Asking the right questions will help you figure out the right answers that you can begin to act on in your business. Find out who is doing what you want to do and ask them the “how to’s” that will help you launch your business. You have to understand your market, your niche, and your specific area of focus in your business. The best thing is to start with the questions you most want to be answered that will help you get to work in your startup. P2B #61: Managing Your New Small Business Finances

In this episode, we take a beginner’s deep dive into just what the heck do you do when you’re starting to accumulate expenses in your business and how to really file and keep track of your finances. We also discuss the one way you’re missing out on money your business generates, even if you haven’t made your 1st sale yet! Startup Quick Tip of the Week Taxbot This week’s quick tip of the week is the app and tax management program TaxBot. If I could give the creator of Taxbot, Sandy Botkin, a big hug and kiss I wouldn’t hesitate! I spent a bit longer sharing the importance of having this app in your business. When you know nothing about where to even place your feet to take the first step, Taxbot is what you need. This app not only tracks your business mileage, your income, stays current on IRS Tax Laws, but also provides the most efficient reports to hand your tax preparer at the end of the year. I could write for days about Taxbot, but you should definitely have it if you’re in business to make a profit! When you check out TaxBot by clicking on the affiliate link above, you’ll receive a free 30 Trial to put the program to work for you! How to Begin Managing Your Small Business Finances Before we really get into the show, you have to understand the best way to begin to operate your business is conquering your fear of tech, software and programs. When it comes to accounting, taxes, and being efficient in your small business, this is a necessity. In this episode, I keep it very basic and paper based, but as we move further along in our conversation about managing your finances in business – technology will become your friend. #1 Divide Your Year Into Quarters (Diving Up Your Expenses & Income) When you first get your business going, you know you need to keep receipts and track of your income, but you may not be exactly sure on how to do that. The best way to get started is to start with some basic resources: 12 Envelopes 4 Folders That’s it! You can literally get started with the basic materials hanging around your house. What you want to do with these is start to chronologically keep track of your receipts in the order they were obtained. In the show, I share with you the full outline of how and why this is so vital and how you use these few tools to keep up with your receipts and transactions. #2 Begin Tracking Your Most Common Expenses & Business Operations When you’re heading out to a lunch meeting, buying equipment or tools for your business, you have some many other transactions going on outside of the one you will experience at the cash register. Some of the most common transactions you need to focus on will be: Driving Expenses (Maintenance, Mileage, etc.) Purchasing Equipment & Tools Investing in Software & Education Resources Cell Phone Expenses (Internet usage, phone calls, text messages, GPS, etc.) #3 Get TaxBot This is the most simple and most important step you will take in your business and I will go in-depth into the why in the Startup Tip for the Week quite extensively. However, there’s no other way around it except to hire on your staff an accountant that specializes in small businesses. This may cost hundreds of dollars a year, but totally worth it. How to Start Getting Paid in Your Startup Business

One of the common issues new startups face is not knowing how to get those first set checks (or debit transactions) completed to get paid in business. There is more to why someone chooses to buy or not to buy from you when you first announce your business is open. P2B #59: The Mindset of an Entrepreneur

When you’re diving into the world of entrepreneurship, most believe if you just make enough money it’ll solve all you problems. In this episode, I share why thinking like that will keep you broke and what your mindset should really be to truly create change in your life. Startup Quick Tip of the Week Google Keep This week’s quick tip of the week is the app Google Keep that (for Android users) is an amazing app that helps you literally keep up with your thoughts. Whether you want to record them audibly, in a checklist form, free-form, or even physically write them with a stylus pen – Keep can hold it all! Be sure to check Keep and put it to the test! What is the Proper Mindset of an Entrepreneur? In discovering who you are as an entrepreneur, you have to know that it’s more than “more money” and having a large influence that will build your business to the levels you desire. The first thing you must ask yourself is What Are You? Until you can define who you are, you will constantly battle your belief systems and it will consistently hold you back from the actions you want to take in your business – and in your life! It will make things very difficult when it comes to striving to achieve the next best version of yourself in business, in your relationships and how you define yourself when no one is around. This also will impact your beliefs about money and how you invest, spend or lose it. All 3 are different. (Check out Episode #58 for Changing How You Think About Money) You Have to Push You have to continually push yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally to grow. Will you continue to “try” or will you “execute” despite your current fears and emotions. (By the way, I recently picked up a new book from a local book fair called, Living Beyond Your Feelings by Joyce Meyers – Consider picking up this gem if you have issues controlling your emotions.) Institute Change in Small Doses & Larger Doses as You Begin to Grow My mantra is Daily Progressive Steps. What is 1 small change you can make today that will greatly increase you faith, strength, or work habits? Really challenge yourself! Don’t take the easy road. Change doesn’t come from easy.   Books Mentioned in Today’s Show The Miracle Morning You Can if You Think You Can What to Say When You Talk to Yourself The post P2B #59: The Mindset of an Entrepreneur appeared first on Diana Gladney: Small Business Startup Coaching for 9 to 5 Women!.

P2B #54: The Most Important Investment New Startups Fail to Make, Part 1

In this episode, I discuss some of the most important investments a new startup can’t afford to make but most unfortunately do. When it comes to creating a new business is more than just buying a new phone or a new laptop. This week learn what these small investments are that can save you thousands! Point Covered In This Episode:  #1 Invest In You Investing in content in your field (Check YouTube, Amazon Best Sellers List for Resources & Information) Investing in your personal growth (Book Recommendation: Master Key to Riches by Napoleon Hill) Investing in your financial growth (Book Recommendation: Start Late, Finish Rich by David Bach) #2 Invest in Your Business Avoiding investing in the “fun stuff” that actually won’t make a difference in your business, but makes you feel like you’re actually doing something. This is what we call “busy work”. Work that keeps you busy, but not productive. It’s actually the “Boring tasks” that allow us to create income and receive payments for services rendered in our business. Organizational setups like a small physical filing system are important to have when first starting out. What programs or software are needed, like TaxBot, that you need to invest in and track your finances?   Books Mentioned Start Late, Finish Rich by David Bach Money: Master the Game by Tony Robbins Master Key to Riches by Napoleon Hill

P2B #53: How to Schedule Your Day to Start a Business

In this episode, we talk about the steps to take to start being more productive in our day and actually plan the day out to be able to schedule time out so you actually can create a business. Often times we find ourselves so busy we come home at the end of the day and we’re exhausted and any plans we had for our day go straight to the trash. To start a business you have to find and create time and not just wait for a “good day” to show up and then spend the day doing “busy work” looking at social media posts or videos and not actually taking any action to start a business. In this show, I share some super simple techniques anyone can do no matter if you work 2 jobs, got to school and have children, you can still do this! At the end of the show, I share a STEAL of a deal to help you really create a business in ONE DAY if you’re serious!
