Open dialogue from David and guests who either are raising, have raised or would like to raise productive and respective children. They will discuss a host of topics concerning the development of a child through adequate parenting. We don't have all the answers to all the problems, but we can help and shed light on a few of them.

Raisin Canes Podcast 046: Jeremy and his Perspectives and Adventures With Raising Kids in a COVID World.

Jeremy comes to us for the first time with his views and experiences raising two young daughters during COVID times.  Discussions of getting some vitamin D, road trips, not living in fear, being consistent, Big Bang Theory, and the Mopar Car Club are touched on during the podcast.  Being intentional during these crazy times was the one thing Jeremey repeated and resonated with me.  Plan something, think outside the box, and executing it was an awesome view.  Something to think about in our dealings with family and COVID times.  Thanks, Jeremy for coming by and hanging.  Definitely have to have him back on the show again.  And, good luck to him in starting his own podcast.  Look for it in the near future?  Here’s hope for no type of Megatron COVID!  Enjoy.

Raisin Canes Podcast 045: Homeschooling Explained 101 and the Associated Stigmas, Flexibilities, and Its Antisocial B...

Welcome back Marianne to the mic and she has brought along her daughter Valerie.  Valerie homeschools all three of her little ones. She comes to discuss the ins and outs of homeschooling.  I really learned a lot and got rid of a few misconceptions.  It seems that she is right on track with her kiddos schooling.  Discussions of they called my Mom Mr. T, no report cards, communication, the network of the homeschool system, experiencing failure, not everybody can homeschool and hard to work outside the home and homeschool.  Thanks to Marianne for bringing her by.  Hope to have them back to dive into the homeschooling topic a little deeper next time.

RC 044: Rachel Stovall - Woman of Many Hats, The Foster Care System, Many of Us Need Therapy, Start at a Place of Cha...

Welcome, Rachel to the mic.  We have heard of each other and we have never actually met in person.  She is a person of many hats - a community activist, an active Facebook page called Rachel’s Round Table where she talks about voting, customer service, artist, photographers, and a host of other topics and people.   Our discussion starts with elements of the foster care system and transitions into the importance of self-care.  They were both related in some form.  It was great to have her on the show.  What a breath of fresh air and informative simultaneously. I’m looking forward to Rachel’s repeat performance on the podcast.

RC 043: Bobby Newman - Interventionist, Certified Drug Professional and Substance Abuse Counselor.

Welcome, Bobby to the mic.  We had a great conversation off the mic that included that he lived in my old hometown of Kansas City, Missouri.  After getting past my love of KC barbeque, we were able to start the discussions of problems with drugs and addicts.  Bobby talked about DARE doesn’t work, manipulating different situations into positive outcomes, starting the drug conversation with kids at about age 8 or 9, the ‘jailing’ lifestyle, the three ways out of addiction, zero in cold in Kansas City and did you eat the steak and cake before your suicidal thoughts?  One of Bobby’s main concentrations is the role of the enabler and how destructive and additive to the addict's plight they can be.  Thanks, Bobby.  I feel that the information was invaluable to people going through or if you know someone who is going through it.  Looking forward to having Bobby back on the show soon.  I know he has many other pearls to share.

RC 042: How and When to Tell Your Kids About the Subject of Sex, Planting Seeds and ‘Nobody Told Me!’

It was my pleasure to have Natasja Visser on the mic all the way from South Africa.  She reached out to me from this podcast.  She is a practicing family counselor and life coach.  Natasja specializes in helping parents and their children deal with difficulties with pornography, when and how to tell children about sex and a host of other qualities you’ll hear in the show.  We discussed topics of special parts, not private parts, don’t preach or overreact, kids' minds as screen savers, and using the right words with a poker face.  Being a very interesting podcast, I feel it is imperative that young parents broach the sex talk quickly and continually.  Natasja definitely changed my mind on that subject and probably will make you think about changing yours too.  Hopefully, we can get her back.  I feel there was much more to discuss.  Thanks, Natasja Below is some of Natasja’s info.  Please check it out.   Website: www.letsexplain.org Facebook page: @natasjaletsexplain Instagram: lets_explain YouTube: Lets explain by Natasja Visser

RC 041: Transitioning From a Kid to Adulthood and All the Things You Didn’t Tell Your Parents, Pop the Window Scre

Kicking off 2021 with my son, David Jr., and hearing his tales (never heard by me) of growing up.  Though sometimes costly, he was lucky to escape to his mid-twenties intact.  I took it like a champ, hearing almost all of these stories first hand.  But, all in all, it was a fun and enlightening time hanging with Jr.  We are all very proud of him.   And yes, David, the mic is on and we are recording!

Mr. Mike is a friend of mine who is always discussing the makeup of our government when we get together.  I thought it would be a great opportunity for others to benefit from his astute knowledge of our United 'Republic' of States -  the one most people don't even realize we have.  Sit back and gain a different aspect and view of our government.  Share this with others, for I learned a lot I didnt know!

RC 037: Raising Kids A Year Later, Pearls of Wisdom, Job with no Manual, Let Them Fail, Ms. Sassy Pants, Disney Paren...

It's been a while since Pete has been in the studio.  On the front end of a birthday lunch after the podcast, we discuss raising our kids after our divorces a year later.  Subjects of coping, opinions, pink crocks with blue socks and the kids already know chime in during the podcast.  Just to let you know ahead of time - this show does veer off the beaten path of raising canes.  Somehow topics of divorce and cheating snuck in at the end.  Leave it up to Pete to take me there!  But, that is where the ride gets interesting.  Enjoy!!

RC 036: Millennials Get a Bad Rap / Mother and Daughter Views, Generation Y and X, Potluck Wedding, YMCA, We Beat!, P...

Emma returns to the mic and brings her daughter Meagan.  Discussing millennials was a definite treat with all three of our views being all over the place.  Getting off topic every now and then, we were always able to relate it all back to the millennial topic/problem.  Meagan, a hard-working nurse and millennial, provides us a look from within her experiences with friends and family.  We did all agree that an important component of keeping millennials on the straight and narrow was having some skin in the game.  Some level of responsibility teens to keep them more focused.  Keep their eyes on the prize, please!!  Thanks, ladies, it was a blast.  Got to get Amanda and Trevor in the studio soon!

RC 035: Raising a Kid into Adulthood Through the Eyes of Both a Mother and a Daughter, Guilt, No Flow Chart Raising C...

New to the podcast arena welcome mother/daughter team Myrna and Audrey.  Man, they started off slow but eventually lit up the podcast studio like roman candles.  My gut is still hurting from laughing even though they have been gone for hours.  I'll have to get another interesting subject in order to get them back on the mics.  I saw so many similarities between our three children.  I summarized that the pecking order does play a part in raising children.  A podcast any parent should not miss no matter how old your kids are.  It was a definite treat to have them visit.  Come back soon... Enjoy..

RC 034: Raising Kids, Kool Aid Mom, Playgroup - Gymboree with Alcohol, Don’t Train Your Kid at Wal-Mart, Tang Mom, ...

Scott agreed to have an impromptu podcast concerning the generalities of raising kids.  I have known Scott for over 25 years during which time our kids grew up together.  We do start off by agreeing that there is no owner's manual to raising children.  His views on hard work, commitment and consequences flow side by side with mine.  It was great getting Scott on the mic and look forward to having him back real soon. Due to the sudden nature of the podcast, I decided to leave a lot of the miscues at the beginning in.  Something different to listen to.... Enjoy....
