Rest, Reflection, and Reinvention: A Farewell (For Now) to the Podcast

Hi mamas, I have to admit that I have been putting off recording this episode because it's a very emotional one – it feels hard to share, but I also know that it feels like the right path forward. I’m diving into my emotional journey of motherhood, early entrepreneurship and now, the transition to business coaching. Also, how I’m learning to listen to my intuition which has led me to pause my work with sleep consulting and taking a step back from The Resting in Motherhood Podcast. This year especially has been a lesson on embracing change as I navigate my evolving identity. I’m still figuring out what this all looks like, so this is definitely a pause, not a goodbye. Navigating the Dilemma of Santa as a Gentle Parent

Today’s episode is coming from the heart and has been one that I wanted to talk about for a while. It is definitely a topic that’s more complex, or even polarizing – so let’s dive into my daughter’s journey with Santa (and soon the Tooth Fairy). Of course, before listening in, what I'm doing personally in my life does not mean that you have to do it, and just because I'm doing something one way doesn't mean that you're doing it the wrong way. It also doesn't mean that I'm judging you for doing it your way. But! In this episode, you will hear how the concept of Santa relates to the complexities of parenting, why I decided to never introduce Santa from the start, and how – if you choose to do Santa – you can do it in a way that’s in alignment with gentle parenting. Whatever you decide, I hope you can feel confident in embracing change to foster a more relaxed and joyful approach to motherhood in this season. [REPLAY] Dropping Balls: Choosing what to focus on in each season of life

Hi mama, just a heads up that this is another replay episode, one that I think is super relevant as we 1) often think we have to be doing it all during the holiday season and 2) head into the new year and feel tempted to set a lot of new goals that are actually unattainable. I hope this episode helps set you up for success throughout these next two months while reminding you that you are doing enough and that you are enough.  – Feeling like you’re on the edge of burnout? Constantly overwhelmed? Not able to give 100% to any of the roles you play day to day? Mama, it might be time to drop a ball. On this week’s episode of The Resting in Motherhood Podcast, I’m sharing how I finally came to terms with the fact that something had to change in this season of motherhood – my hardest season yet. I was juggling mothering a toddler, solo parenting, running a business, and dealing with family health issues. I felt like I was disappointing myself and the people I care about. I had to choose what mattered most and focus my attention there. But how do you go about this process? Listen in to hear my story! REPLAY: What to Do When You Encounter Judgment from Loved Ones

Hi mama, just a heads up that this episode is actually a replay from last year around this same time, but with the holidays coming up, it’s becoming relevant again. Happy listening! With the holidays approaching, I want to chat about something that I am sure we have all encountered in our parenthood journey – judgment from our family or other loved ones. I know these topics can be so polarizing, but I’m hoping they don’t always have to be for you and your family. In this episode I’m sharing a few different ways you can navigate your next holiday gathering when your parenting decisions might come up in conversation. Remember, it's okay to stick up for yourself and it's okay to hold firm boundaries (even with the ones that we love) and also that our children are deserving of this respect and love, too. Mothering (and Feeding) Instinctually with Andrea Haskins

I’m excited to have Andrea Haskins on the show today. Andrea is the co-founder of Radical Moms Union, lactation counselor, and educator – she encourages mothers to be less dependent on the systems that often take away their authority. Throughout our conversation, she’s sharing the predatory messaging that women fall prey to from formula companies (much like the sleep training industry). Andrea shares her personal experiences with postpartum anxiety and the challenges of motherhood, emphasizing the need for informed choices and community support. The conversation also touches on the ethics of formula advertising, the historical context of formula feeding, and the implications of the 'Fed is Best' movement. Shifts in Resting in Motherhood

Today as I sat down to record, I noticed a huge glare coming from the window by my desk because it’s fall and the sun is shifting and shining differently. This is such a beautiful reminder of the change in seasons and how nothing is permanent, how everything is changing. I just loved that because it hints at what I want to talk to you about today in this episode. If you have not already seen on Instagram, there has been a big shift that I'm going to be making or that I've already made actually within my business and it’s moved over to my personal life, too. So I’m sharing why I’m moving away from sleep and into coaching. I’m summarizing my journey of how I got to and why I feel confident and ready to fully support you, no matter where you’re at in motherhood! Motherhood in the Gray Area

Today’s episode comes from a recent real life experience – Lilah brought a Polly Pocket into our collection of Montessori toys (which are very wooden and very neutral). If this would have happened two years ago, I would have been up at night feeling anxious about this different, plastic toy. But now, I’m at ease and comfortable with it. This is an example of getting comfortable within the gray area of motherhood. If you’re listening to this podcast, you are probably doing motherhood your own way and this can feel like you have to stay 100% true to your ideals with every situation. But in reality, we have to give ourselves permission to lean into flexibility while still doing things our own way. Listen in to the full episode to learn how to find the gray area in your own life, to let go of feeling like you have to do it all, and to ultimately find more rest.  Connect with me on Instagram: @resting_in_motherhood or visit the show’s site here. Giving Yourself the Permission to Do Nothing in Motherhood

Is it hard for you to rest? To just be? To do nothing? If so, this week’s episode of The Resting in Motherhood Podcast is for you. I’m sharing the importance of not only giving yourself the permission to do nothing, but to be really comfortable with it, too. I know this can be hard, because in motherhood there is *always* something that could be done whether it’s around the house or with your little one(s). So throughout this episode, I’m going to share my personal experiences and practical tips on how to incorporate moments of rest into your daily life, highlighting the significance of independent play for children and the value of planning free time for yourself and your kiddo. It’s my hope that this episode encourages you to reconnect with your humanity and prioritize self-care. Connect with me on Instagram: @resting_in_motherhood or visit the show’s site here. Advocating for a Neurodivergent Child with Lynn Greenberg

“He’s just not that smart.” This is what Lynn Greenberg, the author of the children’s book Robby the Dyslexic Taxi and the Airport Adventure, was told by her son’s elementary school teacher. Lynn is a mother of four, and Jonathan is her youngest child. Despite what the teacher told her, she knew her son was wicked smart. Her gut was telling her that there was a deeper reason why Jonathan was experiencing learning issues. At six and a half years old, Jonathan was diagnosed with dyslexia, a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person reads, writes, and spells. This began Lynn and Jonathan’s adventure of navigating unique learning needs, finding community, and making the world a better place. Navigating Friendships in Motherhood

One of the biggest ways you can find rest in motherhood is by leaning on your friendships, especially friendship with like minded women (whether they are a mom or not). So this is exactly what I want to talk about on this episode of the podcast – the themes of friendship and motherhood, discussing how relationships can evolve after becoming a mom. I want to share how you can navigate changing friendships, and the loneliness that can so often accompany motherhood. Whether you’re currently feeling isolated, or you feel like you have a really great group of women around you, it’s my hope that this episode will empower you to design more of a life you hope to lead as a mama and a friend.  And PS: I’m helping curate a village just for YOU! Releasing the Need to Do It All in Motherhood

This episode is small but mighty! It’s something that I’ve wanted to bring to the podcast for a while, but haven’t found the time or place. However, this topic is something that has cropped up a lot recently so I think that’s a sign. So, today I want to talk about the pressure we all feel (or have felt) to do it all as a mom, especially when we see other moms on social media who seem to be so authentic while doing it all. I want to encourage you to focus on your own “area of expertise” in motherhood and let the rest go, let go of the expectation to do it all. Removing the Pressure to “Soak It All Up” in Motherhood

In this episode I want to talk about the intense pressure that we feel as moms to soak up every minute or not miss a minute, like we need to be present 110% of the day. While I think this is beautiful because we know that these early years really are fleeting and they go so fast… Having this really unrealistic expectation of ourselves to soak it all up and not miss a minute, is actually really harming us in motherhood. It puts so much pressure on ourselves to be present for every moment, to enjoy every moment and what can actually end up happening is we end up burnt out, which leads to the opposite of our intentions – we're not enjoying every moment and we're not as present as we’d like to be. So what should we aim for instead? Listen to this episode to find out! Connect with me on Instagram: @resting_in_motherhood or visit the show’s site here. What a Thriving Mom Looks Like

A lot of times the go-to words that are associated with motherhood are chaotic, stressful, lonely, and more. But what if we could flip it around and focus more on the positive connotations of motherhood? I asked my community how they would most like to feel about motherhood, and a couple of the words that came up over and over were “joy” and “effortless”. So today I want to talk about this concept of the hardest job that we're all doing (which is motherhood) and how can that be effortless? And what does a thriving mom look like? This is not meant to discredit anyone’s motherhood experience, but instead speak to a lot of the difficulties that many of us face every single day. But to me, effortlessness isn’t about what something looks like, but more on how my day to day feels – how I show up to and react to the normal parts of motherhood. So listen in to hear how you can feel more grounded, more peaceful, and yes… effortless and thriving. Connect with me on Instagram: @resting_in_motherhood or visit the show’s site here. 9 Morning Habits to Set Your Day Up for Success

If you are in a busy season of motherhood, it doesn't mean that you can't be doing nourishing things for yourself, but it does mean that sometimes that we're going to be maybe finding less rest for a period of time. However, I think having these nurturing things within our day that are just a part of our daily routine are so helpful for times when we are busy. Personally, if I didn't have my morning meditation, if I didn't have my journaling, if I didn't have my walks, if I didn't have my protein-filled meals, I would be endlessly burnt out. I have found these things to be so helpful for me that they have become a regular part of my routine and I hope that you can find items like that in your day, too. So that’s what we’re chatting about today – morning habits to set your day up for success. I had a hard time narrowing these down because I think that they're all important (the order mentioned here isn’t important)! I think that we all need to kind of analyze our lives, analyze our days and pick and choose what's going to be most nourishing to ourselves, most realistic, and what's going to work better for us. The Top 4 Ways You May Be Self Sabotaging Yourself in Motherhood

One of the biggest ways I’m currently finding rest in motherhood is by outsourcing, and I’m not just talking about the women who support me in my business, but asking my village to help me when possible. Maybe this means my mom taking my dogs to grooming, getting groceries delivered, or asking my dad to pick something up for Lilah while he’s out. This is one way I preserve my energy and protect myself from self sabotage in motherhood. This is exactly what I want to talk about in this episode – the top four ways you may be sabotaging yourself in motherhood and how to move your baseline from surviving to thriving. By the end of this episode you’ll have a few tangible steps to tighten up your energy leaks while giving yourself the permission to enjoy your day to day more (and be a better mother)! How to Have It All in Motherhood

I'm really excited because over the next few weeks, all of my podcast episodes are going to be focused on you and how you can infuse more self-care into your life and how you can THRIVE in motherhood while STILL being an attachment parent who bed shares or contacts naps, who breastfeeds or pumps, or whatever the case may be – you can do all that and still take care of yourself. Specifically, on today’s episode, I want to talk about a concept that I've kind of sprinkled in lightly in the past episodes, but it’s about how you can truly have it all in motherhood because so often we are told that we can’t live an attachment lifestyle and take care of ourselves. This thought process is a bad place to be in because it discredits us. It discredits our experience and it makes us feel like this attachment, respectful, gentle and responsive parenting means you have to forfeit your needs to meet your child’s. But I’m here to tell you that having it all in motherhood does not mean doing it all. Listen into the full episode to find out how!  Then be sure to register for my free masterclass, The Four Secrets to Thriving in Motherhood Masterclass. How to Meet Your Needs & Your Baby’s Needs Without Sleep Training

Have you noticed the lie or the narrative that if we don't sleep train we can't take care of ourselves – we're going to be a slave to our child's needs, or we're never going to have time for ourselves. I'm not just demonizing the sleep training industry for encouraging you to take time for yourself, but what I don't like is the fact that they are making you feel like you have to choose between either taking care of yourself or meeting your children's needs. I'm here to say, you can have both. You can meet your needs, you can take care of yourself, you can thrive in motherhood while still meeting your child's needs, while still being a gentle, respectful, attachment centered parent. You can still co-sleep, you can still contact nap, you can still nurse to sleep, etc. while taking care of yourself and you can't thrive in motherhood. So that's what this episode is about today – how you can  meet your child's needs and parent in a way that feels good to you and meet your needs. I’m also sharing the next evolution of Resting in Motherhood and how I’m excited to serve mamas in an even deeper respect in the coming months! The Top 5 Lessons I’ve Learned in 5 Years of Motherhood

On the day that this episode is published, it will be my daughter’s 5th birthday! So today, in honor of her birthday, I decided I wanted to share the top five lessons that I've learned in motherhood in the last five years of her life. I’m covering the importance of confidence, trusting in our child's unique timeline, the value of having a supportive village, tuning out external noise, and being clear about our values and goals. This episode has really served as my own personal reminder of the growth and confidence that I’ve experienced in my own motherhood journey and I hope it can give you some actionable steps for your own so that you can find more rest and joy in your day to day. Sleep Progressions: What they are and how to move through them

I find that there's a narrative in the sleep training industry that makes you feel like sleep regressions (or progressions as I prefer to call them) are these make or break moments if you don't do something “the right way”. I know a really common one for the four month progression is, “If your baby doesn't learn how to fall asleep independently during the four months sleep progression, they're never going to sleep through the night.” Well, that's a huge lie. So in this episode I want to talk about exactly what a sleep progression is and when you should expect them in the first year – specifically we’ll be talking about the 4 month, 6 month, 8 month, 10 month, and 12 month progressions. I’m sharing what's happening developmentally during each progression and how you can support your baby through them to find more sustainable rest in your home. Sleep Schedules vs. Sleep Routines

“The best thing I ever did was put my baby on a sleep schedule,” is this something you’ve heard before? This may be the case for those easy going babies who easily adapt to change, but definitely not for the highly sensitive or more spirited children. In reality, sleep schedules are not realistic for a growing baby with unique sleep needs. Instead, we have to tune into the child in front of us, learn to recognize their sleep cues, and create a sleep routine. In this episode I’m sharing more on why a sleep schedule is not the answer, the differences between a sleep schedule and a sleep routine, and how to maximize sleep in your home.
