What is ‘vibration’? Ep10: Hannah Marcotti
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
Hannah Marcotti is a magic making coach for women who are ready to do soul work.
She brings the red lipstick to the spiritual (you don’t see it in the pic below, but you’ll get it when you listen) and she’s also personally responsible for the recent surge in sales of leg warmers (this last tidbit is not in her professional bio, but take it from me.)
In episode 10 of The Sacred Podcast, Hannah and I talked about:
what ‘vibration‘ is — Hannah speaks about it in clear, down-to-earth language
what her morning prayer ritual looks like
her approach to self-care, because she’s not into baths and the like.

Art as spirituality and how to talk to astrologers. Ep9: Heidi Rose Robbins
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
Heidi Rose Robbins grew up coloring chakras at the dinner table – yes, really. Today, she’s a talented poet, teacher and retreat leader, and one of the most soulfully grounded astrologers I know.
In episode 9 of The Sacred Podcast, Heidi and I talked about:
growing up in conservative North Dakota as the child of a metaphysical-bookstore owner
how her theater background lead her to fusing creativity + spirituality
how NOT to respond when talking to astrologers, intuitives and other energy workers. And of course, there’s much more.

Start your own church. He did. Ep8: Fred Giles
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
Fred Giles went to church 7 days a week as a kid. His mama was a pastor, so when he signed up for Bible college and began to study under a bishop, it seemed he was destined to follow in her shoes. And he did… but not really.
Today, he’s the pastor and founder of The Meeting Place Church in Greenville, SC where he’s expanding the notion of what ‘church’ can be.
In episode 8 of The Sacred Podcast, Fred and I talked about:
what happened when he stepped on a bus and gave God an ultimatum
why he decided to start his own church
how he’s turning church into a resource center for career and entrepreneurial development. And of course, there’s much, much more.

Tanya Geisler is the kind of woman who argues with Sunday School teachers and then doles out mama bear hugs like no other.
She is a dear friend and a champion for women who are ready to step up and shine at work, in their bodies, relationships, and the deepest parts of their soul.
In episode 7 of The Sacred Podcast, Tanya and I talked about:

Merging science + spirituality. Ep6: Pace Smith
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
For most of her life, Pace Smith defined life through the lens of science and rationality. Until… she didn’t. In episode 6 of The Sacred Podcast, Pace and I talked about:
: transitioning from science geek to spiritual Sufi
: enjoying the variety of the spiritual buffet vs choosing a single path to devote to
: having conversations with people who don’t share your spiritual beliefs
: creating your own spiritual ceremonies + much more!

Episode 5: Theresa Reed
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
I held a healthy skepticism of tarot for many years. Until I met Theresa Reed.
In her own words, Theresa says:
“Tarot is not about revealing a predetermined destiny (news flash: it doesn’t exist).
It’s not about lifting ‘curses’ (or meddling with other people’s choices).
And it’s not necessarily about gloomy omens or impending doom (most types of doom are delightfully avoidable).
Tarot is a tool for confident decision-making, clear communication and timely, decisive action. Ultimately, it’s all about clarity.”
In episode 5 of The Sacred Podcast, Theresa and I talked about:
: what tarot is exactly
: how astrology helped her begin to understand herself
: why she prefers looser connections with her friendships / community

Episode 4: L’Erin Alta
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
L’Erin Alta has always been a self-described rebel.
As a young kid in Sunday School, she demanded an explanation when told that women should obey their husbands.
“My mom is a single mom. She doesn’t obey anyone.”
Then came her exploration of Rastafarianism, Islam, the Bahai faith and many others. She took what worked for her and left the rest.
In episode 4 of The Sacred Podcast, we talked about:
: what feminism has to do with spirituality
: the danger of being overly dependent on having a spiritual community
: what L’Erin asked her surgeon and anaesthesiologist to do while she was undergoing brain surgery
It’s a fiery and fascinating conversation.
Listen in.

Episode 3: Jen Louden
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
She’s a bestselling author (6 books, over a million copies in print in 9 languages).
She hasn’t worked a traditional j-o-b since 1985.
Oh, and she became a newlywed – at 49.
Today’s guest on The Sacred Podcast is Jen Louden.
This conversation went all over the place. We touched on high points like:
: is spirituality really the same if we’re just “making it up”?
: what is the ultimate point of spirituality, anyway?
: is there such a thing as destiny?
: why Jenn thinks spirituality needs to be rigorous, not just supportive.
And she also popped out this gem:
“Choosing is the art of being an adult.”
This episode triggered a lot of deep reflection for me. Some beliefs I’ve been walking with felt rattled by Jenn’s comments.
If you have a similar reaction (to this or any future podcast episode), here’s a thought:
Instead of feeling bummed because you’re now thinking that your way must be “wrong” or maybe even getting defensive, can you stay with the discomfort and get curious about it?
What about this idea is unsettling or upsetting?
Why would that idea trigger me? What is this really about?
Does this person’s statement feel applicable to my own life experience?
I pray that these conversations would be launchpads for your own spiritual exploration and evolution. Whether you are immediately on board with something a guest says or not, remember the question we talked about in the first episode with Ronna Detrick:
What does this have to teach me?
In all things, there is a lesson.
Always love,
Annika

Episode 2: Ashley Turner
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
Ashley Turner loved her church-centric upbringing.
She’s got bright + happy stories of church camp, choir practice and Sunday School.
Refreshing, right? In a sea of “Religion banged me up!” stories, hearing about her nourishing church years is inspiring.
But after being rejected from all the sororities she applied to in college, and sinking into a deep depression, a friend expanded her spiritual horizons with one special cassette tape (technology throwback!).
Soon, she began to incorporate Eastern traditions, and eventually became a yoga and meditation teacher, an ordained priestess and a psychotherapist.
In this episode of The Sacred Podcast, we hit high points like:
: why my on-again, off-again relationship with yoga might have something to do with ‘feminine spirituality’
: what the ‘discipline’ of our relationships has to do with spirituality
: how introverts can honor their solo time without becoming social hermits
Plus, she shares what her daily spiritual practice looks like, with lots of specific details (I love it when people go into the practicalities – super fascinating!).
Listen in.
Love,
Annika

Episode 1: Ronna Detrick
Episode in
The Sacred Podcast with Annika Martins
It’s here! It’s here!
The Sacred Podcast has arrived. If I still had pigtails, those suckers would be bouncing up and down right now. *giddygiddy*
The podcast will feature conversations with spiritual seekers from all traditions and philosophies (+ lots of DIY types, too) who have built a modern-day spiritual practice on their terms. See the Sacred. Your way.
I have no agenda to push. No ‘right way’ to advocate.
I am invested purely in the conversation. In sharing both the practical and the inspirational truths about what spirituality really looks like in people’s lives.
I hope these conversations will inspire you as you’re building your own modern-day relationship with the word: ” spirituality”.
So let’s get into it!
First up, I’m talking with Ronna Detrick.
Like many of us, Ronna was raised in the church and was deeply commited to walking in the Christian faith – she’d even married a pastor.
Until the whole thing came crashing down.
She saw men making spirituality masculine, so she decided to make her spirituality feminine.
Today, she’s built a uniquely feminine and fiercely independent spiritual practice that makes space for her in a way that she felt traditional Christianity didn’t.
Note: This is not a church-bashing episode and definitely not a church-bashing podcast.
As the episodes roll on, you’ll hear from people who are deeply restored and energized by their religious faith and church experiences. This podcast makes room for all experiences and viewpoints – I think our unique spiritual journeys will be enriched and expanded by them all.
And as you open your heart to listen, remember the deeper question of all questions is:
What does this have to teach me?
In all things, there is a lesson.

Lots of love,
Annika

VIDA Y PENSAMIENTO
