(https://techcrunch.com/2014/12/16/snapchat-emails-not-so-ephemeral/) (http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2016/08/16/report-snapchat-acquire-search-app-vurb/88820114/) Now, it’s that one-touch photo or video capture element that really intrigued me to research, and eventually find what became the title of todays episode, and hence forth is my crazy conspiracy theory- Snapchat allowed IG to create Stories because it gave them permission to use the capture feature. US Patent number US8428453 is my evidence of permission granted by SC. This Patent was granted to Snapchat after a settling out of court with a company called Bigfoot Internet Ventures, who claimed they filed a pending patent application for the ability to either press a button to take a still photo or long press the same button to create a video. Think about IG Stories and HOW you execute content creation and it matches perfectly with this Snapchat patented and used feature.

The debate among folks in my line of work continues to be centered around Return on Investment for social media and with mass adoption of Snapchat happening right now, the loud voices are getting even louder about demanding the ROI of the network before they try and use it. While I personally no longer participate in these debates, I can’t help but hear people ask this all time- Whats my Return on Investment? Well, I think by now you guys know where I stand on this debate, so I turned the question over to my listeners, and you gus did NOT disappoint: Lauri Rottmayer, you can find her on the snaps at lauri-rottmayer had this to offer. OK WIAT- so, this woman just told us that ROI to her, is not measured in money out an money in, but her time spent… she’s getting exposure to raise awareness for concussions among youth sports- Does this count? You bet it does! At least to me! Here’s another listener… Christian Szabo-Williams is a good buddy of mine I met through Blab.im last year. When I asked him what ROI of Snapchat meant to him, here’s his response: OK HOLD ON! This is the second person to not mention MONEY- infact, Christian, found on the snaps at MakeRemarkable, tells us instead that the IMPACT your stories make IS IN FACT the ROI of the network….. Interesting… I’m seeing a pattern here, how about you? Here’s another listener- OOPS! Sorry, that was my little Brother Zach Hansen, and the featured guest of Episode 13 called Snapchat is for everyone. Here in Mid June 2016, it is now the most downloaded Snapchatters Podcast episode so far. You can find our next listener on the snaps at IvanJkwan and coincidentally, he is also a future guest on the show. Ivan drives this point home: Alright, I’m starting to see this not become a pattern but maybe, just maybe, this is the way t approach this debate from here on out. Ivan told us that building the relationships means money later… a point the George B Thomas literally drops the mic on here- ROI or Return on Investment in the past has meant to businesses a simple measurement. This measurement only gave them a sense of comfort that the money they’d spend on an effort was being returned in bottom-line growth to the company. Important, yes- don’t get me wrong. However, here in 2016, we’ve just heard from all walks of business folks tell us that ROI, to THEM, is about RELATIONSHIPS that lead to being more human, especially in the case where Snapchat is concerned. Let’s not forget that even with a stories feature where we can create a one-to-many account of our day or our business, the true power of Snapchat is the messaging one-to-one to your audience. Remember, you’re not just building a community, you’re trying to build RELATIONSHIPS. Hi guys! Today is a bit of a rant, but I hope you see through the fire and to the point- I want you guys to know that if you want to get better at Snapchat, you can't just read about it or listen to this podcast, but you have to put in the work. I was at a networking meeting where one question about Snapchat turned into me giving a small group of people a walk-through the app. There is no way I'd have the courage to do this if it weren't for the confidence I have; that came from using the app! Learning from Snapchatters along the way, yes, but putting to work their teachings has given me that audacity to have these discussions with people. So, if you want to get better at something, you gotta put in the time- go ahead, Just Do It!
