Sports Bros Podcast: BYU bowling in Boise

After a roller coaster regular season, BYU earned a trip back to Boise to face Western Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. How are BYU fans reacting to this bowl bid? Also on the agenda is BYU’s basketball’s rocky start, including last night’s loss to in-state foe Weber State. Is BYU basketball in danger of missing the NCAA tournament for a third straight year? What does the hoops program need to get back to form? Did Tom Holmoe jump the gun by extending Dave Rose’s contract a few weeks ago? Speaking of Holmoe, some fans are calling for the athletic director’s job as the football and basketball programs struggle. What do the Bros think about Holmoe’s tenure at BYU?   http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/12/03/byu-bowling-in-boise-1.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: BYU bowling in Boise appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: BYU Suffers Epic Meltdown Against Utes

In a rivalry that has been nothing short of dramatic and heart-racing over the last two decades, Saturday’s meltdown by BYU just felt like another chapter to the story. Up by 20 points twice in the second half, BYU found a way to blow a 20-0 and 27-7 lead over Utah, making it the Cougars’s eighth straight loss to the Utes. BYU came out firing and dominated the first half, shutting out the Utes 20-0 to begin the contest. It looked all but certain that Utah was overlooking BYU in favor of their match-up with Washington in the Pac-12 championship game. Then came half-time. A pick-six in the third quarter triggered a meltdown for the ages as the Utes found their mojo and scored 28 unanswered points to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Do BYU fans have reason to be optimistic despite the heartbreaking loss? Who is the blame for the meltdown? Did Utah win, or did BYU lose? Is that talent gap as wide as some suggest? What’s with the second half play calling? The Bros will discuss these and other questions tonight on the Sports Bros Podcast. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/11/26/byu-suffers-epic-meltdown-against-utes.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: BYU Suffers Epic Meltdown Against Utes appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: BYU Looks to End Holy War Drought

BYU wrapped up bowl eligibility against New Mexico State, but not without the obligatory slow start. Now the Cougars turn their attention to the next task at hand: Ending the losing streak to Utah. Tonight the Sports Bros talk about what it will take to beat Utah, in Salt Lake City no less. Did BYU do anything last week to help their chances? Can Zach Wilson take on the team he grew up rooting for? Can the Cougar defense stop the Utes without Corbin Kaufusi? http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/11/21/byu-looks-to-end-holy-war-drought.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: BYU Looks to End Holy War Drought appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of BYU at Boise State

Once again, BYU football fell to the Broncos of Boise State on the smurf turf. However, it was a game that may haunt BYU fans for some time, given the many opportunities presented to this struggling Cougar squad. Tonight the Bros discuss the good, the bad and the ugly observations from BYU’s 21-16 loss on Saturday. Are there any silver linings?  What are the biggest frustrations coming away from the heartbreaking loss? Also, our poll question of the week: What feels worse: getting blown out or losing a close game after lots of opportunities to win?   http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/11/05/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly-at-boise-state-1.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of BYU at Boise State appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: Freshman Wilson lights a fire for BYU

The BYU offense was struggling. It has been struggling for over 2 years now. That meant it was time for a change, and that change came in the form of true freshman quarterback Zach Wilson. Through 6 games, senior QB Tanner Mangum never could get the offense moving consistently, even against inferior competition like McNeese State at home. Throw in the fact that BYU’s defense was exposed in rather rude fashion the last couple weeks by Washington and Utah State, and it was clear the entire BYU program needed a lift. Enter Zach Wilson. The Bros discuss the Wilson Effect, and how his skill set helps the team moving forward. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/10/15/byu-finds-offensive-spark-with-freshman-qb-wilson.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: Freshman Wilson lights a fire for BYU appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: BYU doesn’t dazzle ahead of ranked match-up with Washington

Well, BYU got a win against McNeese State this past weekend, but it was nothing like how BYU fans imagined it would happen. BYU started slowly, facing a deficit after the first quarter, before pouncing on the cowboys in the second quarter on their way to a 30-3 win. The game brought about what seems like more questions than answers. Is BYU ever going to develop a passing game? Are the receivers to blame, or the scheme and/or quarterback? Should BYU fans be satisfied with the win and resultant rise in the rankings to #20, or should more be expected of this team? While the win was nice, BYU now faces what could be their stiffest test of the season: a roadtrip to Seattle against #11 Washington and their very aggressive and highly rated defense. What does BYU have to do to pull off another stunner in the Pacific Northwest? Is it even possible given the offenses woes? The Bros discuss all this, and much more.   http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/09/24/byu-doesnt-dazzle-ahead-of-ranked-match-up-with-washington.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: BYU doesn’t dazzle ahead of ranked match-up with Washington appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: BYU wins at Wisconsin!

BYU fans witnessed history yesterday as the Cougars went into Camp Randall and beat the 6th ranked Badgers at their own game. In tonight’s episode, the Bros discuss the improbable victory, how it happened, and what it means for BYU’s football program going forward. How good is BYU’s offensive line? Are the special teams being undervalued? Is the defense even better than we thought? Can BYU continue to win without better quarterback play? What should BYU fans expect after 3 games of emotional whiplash? How long can BYU expect to stay in the Top 25? http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/09/17/byu-wins-at-wisconsin.mp3   The post Sports Bros Podcast: BYU wins at Wisconsin! appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: BYU brings fans back to earth with loss to Cal

After a week of hyped expectations, BYU football was brought back to earth with a loss to Cal at home. The loss has left fans asking a lot of questions: Was Arizona really that bad? Is Cal even good? Which team is the real BYU–the one that beat Arizona on the road or the one that laid an egg against Cal at home? What went wrong with the offense that seemed to be back on track last week? Has BYU even improved from last year? Did BYU fans overreact after BYU’s win over Arizona, and are they overreacting now after the home loss to Cal? Tonight the Bros discuss these questions, along with the biggest question of the week: should Tanner Mangum be the long-term starter this year? If not, then when should Zach Wilson make his first collegiate start? Also, the Bros give their updated predictions for the 2018 season. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/09/10/byu-brings-fans-back-to-earth-with-loss-to-cal-2.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: BYU brings fans back to earth with loss to Cal appeared first on TornBySports.

Live at 9:00 PM MDT. With the football team in the thick of fall camp, BYU fans are looking for encouragement following an abysmal 2017 football season. To answer these and other questions, the Bros are joined by Jared Lloyd of the Daily Herald. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/08/21/byu-football-difference-makers-w-jared-lloyd.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: BYU Football Difference-Makers w/ Jared Lloyd appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: BYU Hoops Searching for Answers after San Diego Loss

It’s another 20-win season for BYU basketball, but after another terrible loss–this time to Dan Diego–it doesn’t exactly feel like a successful season. After a third loss to a bad WCC team, fans are clamoring for coaches to be fired, or for the program to somehow change course. The Bros discuss whether the Y has reached its ceiling under the current regime and what changes the program might make to raise that ceiling.   http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2018/02/19/sports-bros-podcast-byu-hoops-searching-for-answers-after-san-diego-loss.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: BYU Hoops Searching for Answers after San Diego Loss appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: LSU’s Jeff Grimes in as new BYU OC

On a special edition of the Sports Bros Podcast, the Bros welcome Ross Dellenger of the Advocate to discuss his reports that BYU will be hiring Jeff Grimes as its new offensive coordinator. Grimes is apparently turning down big money at LSU for this opportunity, and Dellenger was one of the first to report the story. Also joining the Bros is Dick Harmon of the Deseret News to talk about what the new hire means to BYU, its donors, and its fans.   http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2017/12/14/lsus-jeff-grimes-as-new-byu-oc.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: LSU’s Jeff Grimes in as new BYU OC appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: Ty Detmer out as BYU OC

The first domino fell in what is sure to be a busy off-season for BYU football. Ty Detmer was released of his offensive coordinator duties this afternoon, after BYU finished 4-9 with one of the worst offenses in the country. Many fans had been calling for this action by mid-season, but now that it’s a reality, what does this mean for BYU? Was it a good idea to fire a legend so early in his tenure? The Bros vary greatly on their stance about this important issue. Kalani Sitake and Tom Holmoe showed they are serious about winning at BYU. Now, the next hiring is just as important as the removal of Detmer.   http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2017/11/28/reaction-ty-detmer-out-as-byu-offensive-coordinator.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: Ty Detmer out as BYU OC appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: Live call-in show for BYU Fans

Wanna vent about BYU? Need a shoulder to cry on after seeing the Cougars lose their 8th game this season? Want to tell the Bros what you really think of them? Tonight is your chance! Beginning at 9:00 PM MST, the Bros will be taking live calls from BYU fans looking for a place to mourn. Call (713) 955-0766 to talk to them live! BYU is officially staying home this bowl season for the first time in 12 years. The Cougars lost to Fresno State yesterday, and all hopes of turning around the awful season fluttered out the window. To add insult to injury–or rather injury to insult–Tanner Mangum was lost for the season to an Achilles injury late in the second half. Beau Hoge came in and was unable to get any points for the disastrous Cougar offense. BYU, now sitting at 2-8, can’t seem to keep players healthy or get into the end zone. Now, fans are starting to lose patience. Are fans going to continue to be patient with Kalani Sitake and his staff? What expectations for change are there among the Cougar faithful? Is there an internal problem causing these injuries? Or are BYU fans’ expectations just too high? http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2017/11/06/live-call-in-podcast-for-mourning-byu-fans.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: Live call-in show for BYU Fans appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: Jamal Willis talks BYU blunders

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2017/10/18/sports-bros-podcast-jamal-willis-talks-byu-blunders.mp3 Tonight the Bros welcome BYU legend Jamal Willis to talk about his observations of the BYU offense, particularly the running back corps. Is Ula Tolutau good enough to keep in the game despite his fumble troubles? Why isn’t Riley Burt getting a chance? Has Trey Dye earned more touches or is he better in the slot? Also on the agenda is a breakdown of the Cougars’ loss to Mississippi State. If it weren’t for all the fumbles, could BYU have competed in that game? Is the team finally showing some improvement? How happy is Little Bro that the screen pass is becoming a staple of the offense? Is this weeks game against East Carolina the most winnable game left on the schedule? Finally, the Bros discuss the inevitable question that some don’t want asked: is Kalani Sitake an upgrade from Bronco Mendenhall?   The post Sports Bros Podcast: Jamal Willis talks BYU blunders appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: Brian Logan discusses BYU coaching

After another poor showing on homecoming night, BYU fell to Boise State 24-7 and dropped to 1-5 on the season. The offense had a promising first drive to take a quick lead, but yielded little progress the rest of the night. To top off the struggles, the Cougars burned the redshirt of highly touted quarterback recruit Joe Critchlow, which begs a few questions. Is Tanner Mangum done as starter? Has BYU given up on the season? Is Critchlow the future of the program? Also, the Bros are joined once again by former BYU defensive back, Brian Logan. They’ll discuss whether coaching or players are to blame for the Cougars’ performances and what he thinks the team needs to do to get back on track. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2017/10/11/sports-bros-podcast-brian-logan-discusses-byu-coaching.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: Brian Logan discusses BYU coaching appeared first on TornBySports.

Sports Bros Podcast: Should BYU fire someone?

Following their fourth straight defeat at the hands of in state rival Utah State, BYU is reeling. With two quarterbacks banged up and one of the worst offenses in in nation, Cougar fans are starting to get restless. Making things worse, BYU has a quarterback quandary on their hands. Beau Hoge, who looked effective in his limited action against Utah State, is injured with an apparent concussion. Meanwhile, Tanner Mangum’s status is still unknown. Who will play Friday against Boise State? Who gives the Cougars the best chance of winning? In addition to these issues, the Bros debate the questions everyone is asking: Is this offensive coaching staff in over their heads? Does someone bare the brunt of the responsibility, and if so, who? Should BYU considering firing one of the offensive coaches? Is Ty Detmer untouchable? How much latitude should these coaches have going forward? http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thesportsbros/2017/10/04/should-byu-fire-someone.mp3 The post Sports Bros Podcast: Should BYU fire someone? appeared first on TornBySports.
