Today’s guest is the incredible Andrew Bernstein, affectionately known as "Bernie". Bernie possesses a rare combination of both physical and mental strength. Andrew is an accomplished journalist, editor, race promotor and cyclist. Over the past 16 months, he has had to draw on every ounce of that strength to rebuild and repair after a near fatal hit and run while he was riding his bike. Bernie currently resides in Boulder, Colorado. Bernie’s resilience is the stuff of legend and I’m honored to have him on the podcast.  I want to first recommend the podcast that Bernie participated in with Outside Magazine. A 100 yard crushed gravel driveway takes you up to their farmstead. They're far from any city and close to peace and in harmony with the sweeping land around them. David and Frances Schaftlein are as hardworking as they are beautiful human beings. I've been lucky to get to know them and honored to be able to share even a part of their story. For this week's episode of the Sugarbench Podcast, we’re talking to Jonathan Pierce. Jonathan is a former elite athlete in Track and Field and distance running. He competed for Stanford University, where he was an All-American in the 3000m Steeplechase, and then ran professionally for 3 years with Reebok/Zap Fitness, Mammoth Track Club, and ASICS. After completing his elite running career, he became a therapist and worked extensively as a consultant to several clubs in professional athletics. In 2017, Jonathan founded Kinetik Performance and serves as the founder and lead practitioner. He chairs a non-profit branch targeting injury reduction for youth athletes. Jonathan now calls the Little Italy Neighborhood of San Diego home and we’re thankful to have him here today!
