#047 Going Ladybits Deep In 2017
I have decided that 2017 is all about going deep – ladybits deep that is. I’m sure you have heard the term ‘going balls deep’ or going ‘balls to the wall’ (which for the record are some of my favourite sayings). I don’t have balls, nor do I want them but I do want to…

046 – End Of 2016 Insights
Twenty-sixteen - what a crazy year it has been, one filled with ups, downs, learnings and insights. For some it was a horrible year, for others it was a good one. I definitely fall into the second camp.
I embraced 2016 and I had some amazing experiences which I want to share with you in this weeks podcast.
Initially the plan was to summarise the biggest learnings I had from each of the podcasts released this year, but I realised that was a mountain of a task. Reason being that every single podcast contained valuable information and gold nuggets that narrowing it down was difficult.
As I thought about the best approach to take it occured to me that there was an overriding theme to this year. Each guest, whilst talking about their own story and journey all had one thing in common.
A particular belief tied them altogether.
That belief was the idea of 'owning it'.
Owning Yourself. Taking responsibility for all your actions. For shining a light on all the dark 'horrible' bits of your being that you may have stuffed down ors hidden away. The parts of yourself that you may be ashamed or embarrased about. Your quirky uniqueness - your Quiddity!
In this episode I dive a little deeper into the concept of 'owning it/owning you'. I also share with you my other top 4 insights that I had this year.
I chat about:
The How Fit Feels social experiment (and a side note into 'Saying 'yes' to opportunities and seizing them when they arise without overanlaysing them)
"Owning It"
Individualisation (knowing yourself in order to make the best choices for yourself) and the specialisation of female specific training
My journey into the world of 'online training' and how I needed to give myself permission to chill out for the second half of 2016 (why creating white space was extremely important for me)
The #ResolutionRebllion - a FREE 3 week Body, Mindset and Mojo training program for rebellious women who want to wipe out New Years Resolutions and create a more successful 2017 (I invite you in!! - We start on Jan 9th!!)
Have an amazing New Years and I'll 'see' you again in 2017!!

#043 How Fit Feels – Results
The Fitness First How Fit Feels social experiement finally wrapped up on Sept 10! I felt absolutely amazing on that last day knowing that I could finally get add some exercise and movement into my world!
It has been about 6 weeks since the last shoot day and since then I have been slowly re-introducing exercise such as walking, strengh training and metabolic conditioning. I can tell you this much - it feels AMAZING to be moving again!
(You can see the final episode of How Fit Feels here: Fitness First.)
We also made it back on to the Sunrise (The Australian National morning show) to summarise the results of the experiemnt - check it out: Sunrise clip.
Anyways, people have been dying to know what happened to my body over that time. Naturally there was going to be a shift in my phsyical body - that goes without saying. 12 weeks of no exercise (and a monster craving for cake and croissants) is going to have a physical effect.
In this episode I reveal my results and what happened to my body. Of course I don't want my physical results to detract from the intent of the show, which was to highlight the mental and emotional shifts that occur without exercise.
The whole experiment was designed to pay attention to our mental health because too many people only ever focus on superficial benefits of exercise. In fact our industry and much of society has an unhealthy obsession with obtaining the so-called 'perfect body'.
Chiselled 6 packs, flat tummies, big bootys and boulder shoulders are often top of the goals list. While these goals may be meaningful to some people society is overlooking the most powerful aspect of exercise and movement - the positive influence it has on mental health and performance.
The research is pretty clear about this. Exercise has been shown to alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. It helps keep our brains healthy and functioning well. I can honestly say that 12 weeks of no movement had a big negative effect on my overall mental state (which I discuss in the show).
But now on to the physical results.... Well they were interesting to say the least. I was suprised by what happened to my body!!
Tune in to hear about what happened.
I also leave you with the 4 biggest insights I had about participating in the experiment (these will help you with your approach to movement and fitness!)
Enjoy the show!!
PS A snippet of my first session back to training!!!

#041 Nardia Norman – How Fit Feels
As you know I have been involved in the Fitness First social experiment How Fit Feels. I have been quite open and transparent about the challenge and my experiences along the way!
I think this Facebook post beautifully sums up my overall feelings:
Surviving vs Thriving:
I have had the following conversation a lot lately. It is amazing how many people are interested in the #howfitfeels challenge, specifically they are keen to know how I am getting on.
My answer has evolved beyond "I'm feeling shit" bc when I stopped to think about what that really meant I uncovered the following.
Right now I am SURVIVING. By that I mean I am 'just getting through each day'.
I'm doing what needs to be done, I'm meeting my work demands, I'm ticking boxes in other areas of my life. I am participating in life, going through the motions BUT that is about it.
Eveything I do is being overshadowed by extreme tiredness, irritability, negativity, a numbing and a sense of 'having' to do my daily things.
And I HATE this feeling bc I'n my opinion 'just getting through life' or 'making it through each day' is not an acceptable place to operate from.
There is a MASSIVE difference between Surviving and Thriving.
Right now I am NOT thriving. I am being impulsive and reactive to things. I'm 'dreading the waters' of each day.
Yet I can totally see why 'survival' becomes the norm. I have been fascinated with how comfortable I am becoming with this level of 'numbness'. My 'meh-ness' or 'can't be fucked-ness' has gone to a whole new level. I'm not feeling super depressed but I'm not feeling happy. I'm lukewarm. Grumpy lukewarm ha ha.
I've only been doing this for 9 weeks but I can see how difficult it must be for people to pull themselves out of the hole of 'comfortable numbness' if they have been there for years!!
If only they knew how amazing they would feel if they moved towards Thriving.
If only they knew how much better life would be if they no longer accepted comfortable numbness in their world and started operating from a higher place.
I guess with this new insight I am going to have to figure out how to show people how to get out of Survival mode and into Thrival (yes I know it's not a word but it rhyms) mode....
In todays episode I share with you my top insights and key learnings from being in this challenge!

#040 Dr Alison Chen – Adventure & Possibilities
Adventure - who doesn't love a good adventure in life? Whether that be an adventure down to the local park or a holiday to a remote part of the world.

# 039 Krista Scott Dixon – F Calories
"Hey Calories - F&*K Off"
I think this one sentence sums up Krista Scott Dixon perfectly. She is straightforward, real, extremely funny and witty and is one of the most interesting persons I have ever chatted to.
Krista has been someone that I have followed and admired for many, many years. In the world of nutrition and fitness she is a super star. I'm sure she would disagree with that word but from my perspective she is.
It would be highly unlikely for any personal trainer or fitness professional NOT to be aware of who she is, so it brings me great pleasure to share her with the rest of the world.
Krista completed her PhD in 2002 and went on to become a professor. After academia failed to fulfill her dreams she left that space and moved into Nutrition and Fitness. She is an author, speaker, educator and in charge of developing curriculum for the Precision Nutrition Coaching Program.
She is also the owner of one of the worlds longest running health and fitness websites for Women - Stumptuous.com (next year will mark the 20 year anniversay of this site!)
One of her books is titled "Fuck Calories and Other Dietary Heresies". As you can summise from the title Krista challenges the notion of 'calorie couting' and does a great job at explaining why focussing on them is futile. She also breaks down a ton of different Nutrition myths that keep people stuck in an unhealthy way of thinking and being.
God, there is so much goodness in this episode!!
In this episode we chat about:
- Simplifying your approach to nutrition
- Learning to 'check in' or tune into your body
- Deciding to be enough
- Why punishing yourself with exercise and restricting your nutrition choices sets you up for failure
- Why Calorie counting is overrated
Krista also shares with us 2 powerful practices for improving the ability 'to feel' the body and improve self love. Having helped coach thousands of people to success Krista knows a thing or two about behaviour change!

#038 Meghan Callaway – Helping Women To Be More
In a society that tells women to be less Meghan is on a mission to help women become more through strength training and movement. More confident, stronger, happier and empowered.
Meghan Callaway is a personal trainer in Vancouver, Canada. She has close to 13 years of experience coaching a wide array of clients, ranging from the elite athlete, to post-physical therapy rehabilitative strength training, to the everyday person who is looking to feel, perform, and function at a higher level.
Meghan has an extensive athletic background and has played soccer for 26 years, and also grew up playing ice hockey and baseball on boys teams. She is still a huge sports junkie.
Meghan is incredibly passionate about helping her clients, especially females, strive to make themselves more as society continues to tell women that they should make themselves less.
Like so many women, Meghan battled this unhealthy mindset for years, so her mission is to educate and empower all of her clients, and help them establish a lifestyle that makes them feel confident, happy, strong, and vibrant.
She continues to dispel the counterproductive and often harmful myths that are preventing an abundance of people from living the life that they truly deserve, and one that will help them achieve their goals.
Meghan was in a bad car accident when she was 28, and this led to 5+ years of severe body issues/dysfunctions. Despite many low points and moments of doubt, Meghan persevered until she found a solution, and learned a tremendous amount about herself in the process.
Going through this ordeal made Meghan appreciate her health and simply the ability to feel good more than ever, and it changed her overall mindset from one that was so focused on aesthetics,to one that is now centred around feeling healthy, happy and confident, and kicking ass, both in the gym, and in life.
In this episode we chat about:
- The dangers of the female fitness industry
- Finding good role models
- Being truthful and being you
- Why it is important to train and eat for health first
- How to inject play into your world
- Being 'more' - more confident, faster, louder, stronger etc

#037 Erin Brown – Unafraid To Be Big
Erin Brown is unafraid to be big, in presence or in thighs.
This line sums up this woman beautifully. She is strong, powerful and exudes a presence that makes you want to tell her your story -the real, honest story with all it's dark and crazy bits. If you tell her your story you know that she will hold your space with compassion and love.
Erin is a writer, speaker & activist whose work focuses on women, healing and autonomy. She utilizes authentic narrative to promote empathy and compassion toward ourselves and others. She is a feminist, an intuitive, a firm believer in radical self-care and a coach.
Her story begins at 4 years old when she first experienced concern with her weight. From there her weight issues and low self esteem affected every part of her life, which lead to obsessions with dieting, poor relationship with her body and food and eventually depression.
She used to think that if she were smaller, more beautiful, skinnier than she would be happy.
When she found out she was pregnant with Lola she was terrified. It was then that she made a promise to herself and Lola - that she would do whatever it takes to be a healthy role model for her.
With small steps and goals Erin started to change.
"I embarked on this journey to be a positive role model by loving myself and being healthy. But it was a journey back to myself. This story was once about weight loss, now it has nothing to do with that at all"
Erin is one of the most well articulated and interesting women I have ever had the pleasure of chatting to, and in this juciy episode we delve into some fascinating topics. She totally changed my perspective on some key topics that I have been mulling over lately and it also challenged some of my own stories and beliefs!
In this episode we jam on:
- What the words Feminism and Activism mean to her
- Marriage
- Removing Expectations
- The sexualisation of the empowerment industry
- Challenging the system and not the individual
- How it felt to write her book Letters To Lola
Erin also shares some powerful practices that she personally used to help her heal her relationship with her body.

#033 The Merrymaker Sisters
Two girls on a mission to meerymake over the world! Meet Emma and Carla Papas real life sisters who have combined their love for health, happiness and food into a hugely successful and influential business.
Emma and Carla are health and happiness advocates, passionate entrepreneurs and health coaches who are onn a mission to merrymake over the world.
Their journey to this success starts as many great success stories do - with their own story.
Prior to 2012 they were both living the life of 'shoulda's. They did everything that society says that people 'should' do - get a stable job, have a boyfirend, save for the house etc etc. From the outside it looked as if these two were healthy and happy but this was not the case.
Both were struggling with low self esteem, disliked their bodies immensly and as a result obsessed over food, calories and spend hours and hours at the gym trying to sculpt the 'perfect' body. Years of dieting, body obsession and over training lead to health breakdowns and a deep sense of unhappines.
In 2012 this all changed and they discovered a new of thinking and being.
Sick and tired of overwhelming and confusing information Emma and Carla took it upon themselves to go back to basics. They discovered how to eat real, wholesome food, dtopped calorie counting and allowed the food to heal their bodies. The rest they say is history.
Since 2012 The Merrymaker Sisters brand has exploded on the health and wellness scene boasting over 63K followers on Instagram, 32k on Facebook and being recognised as health influencers around the globe.
These two women are such a joy and this was a brilliant episode!
In the episode we jam on :
- How their name Merrymaker came about
- How your passion can be your business
- How to drop the calorie counting and obsession and accept your body
- The importance of taking the first step - take action
- Being on purpose
And sooo much more!!

Updated
