082 – Why customer avatars are all wrong & what you should do instead

In this episode I’m sharing a framework called Jobs-to-be-done. It’s a framework or methodology that has become key to innovation in products and services. It goes beyond what we THINK we know about our customers needs and wants and uses observation and analysis to understand what JOBS people hire products and services to do for them. Sometimes we don’t even know ourselves what job a product or service is satisfying for us, but it can be observed and understood. How we can apply jobs-to-be-done to our businesses History of the framework – the brainchild of Harvard professor Clayton Christensen What are jobs – main, related Types of jobs – functional, emotional, personal and social How to identify jobs to be done Applying the framework to your business

074 – Why you? Why now? (Solo)

Warning Empire Builders, shiz gonna get REAL today. I don’t know what happened but over the long weekend in January I took a walk on the beach and I don’t know about you, but the beach makes me so much more grounded and connected to the woo woo, vulnerable side of me.   So… what i wanted to do was share a bit of the story of why I started podcasting. I share this story a lot, but I share the edited version, and I wanted to give you the real behind the scenes look at my failings, flaws and fears.   I mean I’ve talked on the podcast before – particularly episode 37 – about what I’ve learned from podcasting but that’s the business stuff. And you know I love the business stuff.   If you love the business stuff, you should also check out my interview with Ronsley Vaz, founder of We Are Podcast in episode 57 about podcasting, and episode 61 where i share a whole lot of awesome content creation tips from We Are Podcast 2016.   But this episode is NOT one of those.   Because I’m on the beach it’s also a little bit windy at times, but I’ve listened back and the audio is not atrocious, so bear with me.   For now, let’s answer the questions WHY YOU? WHY NOW? Things I talk about: The story of my crossroads moment at the Wellness Summit 2014 The moment when you realise the identity you have for yourself might be able to change The importance of doing it terrified, of committing before you’re ready I have a bit of a feminist rant about why it’s so obvious that women would start their own businesses from Quotable Quotes: “I know how much of a mindset fuck it is to embark on something so brave as a podcast”   “the only people with a vested interest in changing the world are the women who want to take their place in it” Links: Mitle’s podcast Dare to Flourish Join PodWell in February for extra bonuses Join the Podcaster Posse Facebook Group

073 – How to Shift Your Message – with Merry Maker Sisters Emma and Carla Papas

I’m so excited to be catching up with the Merrymaker Sisters again in this episode. I first spoke to Emma and Carla when they where building a blog and sharing paleo recipes and I was starting my podcast. It’s been two years of full-time merrymaking for the girls & big changes in my biz too and I’m thrilled to be able to share their epic journey with you.     We chat about...   Emma and Carla tell us how they maintain their motivation and flow while living and working together as well as how things have changed since their move from Canberra to the Gold Coast. The sisters talk about how their business has changed over the past two years since they were last on the podcast. They discuss why leaving their paleo message behind was the right move for them. They didn’t realise how big of a deal it would be until they published that blog post. Carla tells us how she and Emma split the workload. Emma explains how things have changed since they began working on the Merrymaker Sisters full-time and how they’re ready to properly define their rolls. The sisters believe that working in a salaried job would be easier, but working on their own business is where their joy is, but they realise that they need to keep working on keeping that joy and fun. The girls tell us how email automation has been a game changer in their business. They talk about why gratitude is the one thing they always come back to and why it’s so important to them. Carla and Emma explain how their podcast came about and why they’ve decided to focus more on business. Quotable Quotes   – If you meet someone who loves what they do, there’s something magic to that. – For most goals and dreams we are our own blocks. Even if you are that passionate it doesn’t mean you’re going to have an epic business because there’s a lot of hard work that goes into creating, sustaining and maintaining and growing a business. – You don’t have to have a business to have an epic life.   Linky Links   The Merrymaker Sisters – Getmerry.com Twitter – https://twitter.com/Themmsisters/ Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/Themerrymakersisters/ Instagram – https://instagram.com/Themerrymakersisters/ Tropical Think Tank – http://www.tropicalthinktank.com Dynamite Circle – http://about.dynamitecircle.com/ The One thing – http://www.the1thing.com Essentialism – http://gregmckeown.com/product/essentialism-the-disciplined-pursuit-of-less/ Drip (Email) – https://www.drip.co Dan Norris – dannorris.me

070 – Part 3 Should I Podcast? w/ Anna Chisholm (SISAP) (Summer Series)

Welcome back to our Should I start a podcast summer series! If you are starting here, please pause and go back to part 1 – episode 68 – and begin at the beginning. Why? In this series we are answering the question SHOULD I START A PODCAST and we’re doing that by sharing the real journey of Anna Chisholm, host of Big Impact. Anna did my podcasting course PodWell and we began recording this series right at the start of her journey. So you will hear her challenges, inspirations, questions and highlights AS SHE GOES THROUGH THE COURSE AND creates her podcast for the first time. So let’s get into the next instalment of Should I Start a Podcast – with Anna Chisholm! We chat about: Anna tells us about the first interview she did for her podcast and why she’ll be using Skype to record her chats. She feels that creating a podcast connects well with her extroverted personality. Anna isn’t sure how she will continue the conversation after the podcast has ended. Anna’s biggest challenge is the intros and outros. She’d like to launch with a few pre-recorded podcasts up her sleeve.   Quotables: “I think one of my strengths is connecting with people and talking one-on-one with [them].” “My nerves lay more around the tech side of things and the things you can’t control.”

069 – Part 2 Should I Podcast? with Anna Chisholm (SISAP) (Summer Series)

This is for you if you’re interested in HOW entrepreneurs can grow their business with podcasting. It’s for you if you’re thinking about podcasting and you want inspiration to get started. And it’s for you if you’re ALREADY podcasting because you’ll get inspiration, ideas and advice you can apply in your podcast right now that will pay off forever. But this isn’t just me preaching to you about podcasting. It isn’t me bringing on experts to tell you how fabulous podcasting is. In this series, you will meet an entrepreneur who is just like you. Anna Chirsholm is a health coach and one of my PodWell clients. She’s a Mum, a passionate plant based foodie, a fitness fanatic and  NOW A PODCASTER who is behind the show Big Impact. Getting clear on where her business is going has helped Anna make the decision to start a podcast. But she still wonders if it will make a difference to her business. Creating audio content is much easier for Anna than writing blog posts. Being able to provide information on plant-based living is really satisfying for her. Initially, Anna plans to use her outro to ask people to rate and review her podcast. She’s still unsure about how her Facebook group will integrate with the podcast, if at all. Quotables: “Getting something out there that I’ve loved doing is going to satisfy me quite a lot, even without knowing if anybody’s listening.” “As a busy, working mum I love listening to podcasts because it’s an easy way for me to consume content while I’m on the go.”
