Making money? That’s cool if you do. But it’s a means, not a goal. Your goal is to change the game, to concentrate on a problem that matters and to make a difference. Seize today’s opportunities - now is when individuals can finally hustle their way beyond all expectations. You can learn anything, you can start a business without anyone’s permission, you can be a pioneer. All the barriers are breaking down. But more openness also means more competition and more judges. Against the odds, you’ll have no other choice but to be honest and constantly questioning yourself about WHY you’re doing your startup - because that’s what it means to be brave.

Anyone asking you to work on a business plan while you’re still searching for a virtuous business model isn’t an investor you want. Who you raise money from is a key question - not every dollar is the same. Good money comes when you can reverse the balance of power. Raising funds is like a mix between playing poker and buying a house. You need to go all in with your own cards. But you can’t keep a poker face in front of the landlord, because it could be a long-term relationship and it should be based on honesty. Learn how to do this, player!

You can explain what you do in a 10 second pitch. You can show how you do it through an amazing demonstration. But can you clearly define the reasons why you do it? If you can, you’ll attract the most motivated people, the ones who share the exact same purpose. If it’s true that startups’ missions are deeply rooted in the founders’ personal stories, they still need to be expressed and obvious for the rest of the team, the users and all the people you’re enrolling.

This conference is given by Oussama Ammar, cofounder and partner at TheFamily.
As a startup founder, you’re playing a game where winners take all. Growth is hard. Of course, there are tons of growth hacking tips out there, but they all need to be taken with a grain of salt. Growth hacking is like a chemical reaction - if you’re doing it without having traction and organic growth already, it won’t really help you. You need the combination of elements to make things heat up. The only way to grow fast is to push so much and so hard that it feels almost impossible to keep up. Every founder has that fear deep inside when they realize that their growing company could very well die - and not in five years or in a year. The company could die tomorrow. Great founders use that fear and that knowledge to keep pushing forward and riding the wave. That’s why you can’t overthink things or try to plan them perfectly.

The pay-it-forward mindset is key to building a startup over the long run and creating something indestructible - trust, whether it is with your fans, clients or employees. Learn in this video why caring matters the most and how to care.

The main reasons why startups fail come back to a problem between founders. Choosing a cofounder is the most important decision you will make when starting your company. It’s even more important than your project: projects can change, but what can’t change is people. If you’re not working with people who are going through the same learning curve as you, you can’t achieve anything. This conference explains how to find the right people, develop your trust in them, and keep your communication transparent and your goals aligned.

Before seeking any outside funding, you must bootstrap.
What does it mean? You may not find customers on day one, so you’ll have to be creative in order to grow your startup. Bootstrapping is about creating the best opportunities to build your product, your community, your team and your culture. Not having money forces you to use your imagination to solve problems. You will find hacks and tricks, but above all, you’ll make all sorts of mistakes and learn from them, for zero money spent.

As an entrepreneur, you hear it all the time : “Stay focused!”
What does this mean? Doing just one thing? Well, no, babe, you have to finish many different tasks as an entrepreneur. Focusing means that you should dedicate most of your time to your goal and those efforts that impact your growth. The tricky thing is knowing what has an impact and what doesn’t. Design, product, team, legal, accounting… How to prioritize and organize your roadmap and to-do list every day? That’s what Oussama talks about in this video.

Don’t fall in love with any brilliant idea. As an entrepreneur, you’re fighting against a problem, you’re not cherishing ideas. You’re about to dedicate all of your time and energy to tackle this problem. So make sure it’s a good one. A good problem is real, you can clearly acknowledge and define it. It has a huge impact and it’s getting worse every day. A problem is difficult to overcome. The pain is obvious and not already solved - the way you think it should be. So leave your ideas and concentrate on the problem that is obsessing you. Let’s go!

Differences
are opportunities, they are virgin lands waiting to be discovered,
developed and enhanced. If Blablacar is a leading European startup,
that’s because people in Europe need this type of peer-to-peer
ridesharing usage more than anywhere else in the world. Let’s make our
differences become advantages.

Oussama Ammar is Partner & Cofounder at TheFamily.
In this talk, Oussama talks about what it means to build ambitious startups in a toxic ecosystem. Don’t be fooled by the number of accelerators, incubators and other things aiming to help startups across Europe. Today, any entrepreneur from a European country who recognizes the weaknesses and strengths of the local environment can push forward.
Don’t just rely on Mashable, TechCrunch or Forbes to give you actionable hints for your own startup.
This content can be useful and certainly interesting to read. But we need to filter that information, put it into our context and adapt it to our European reality. In this video, Oussama talks about how you can develop this localization filter that will help you know what to apply to your life and your company, and what isn’t quite yet applicable in Europe.

KOUDETAT: Bien Définir Son Pricing
Episode in
TheFamily Podcast

KOUDETAT: Customer Care
Episode in
TheFamily Podcast
