064: Baker, Mother, & Business owner | Sydney Ballard

Remember the “Good Ole Days”, when life was simple? When fresh eggs were collected in the morning from the chicken coop, apples were hand picked from the orchard and warm milk was brought to the table fresh from the cow. Back when you would walk through the kitchen and the aroma of spices from grandma’s pie would make your mouth water in anticipation. Back when recipes were handed down from generation to generation.   I didn’t quite live back in the good ole days, but I do know the simplicity of making good homemade food. There is a joy and satisfaction that comes with knowing exactly what is in the food that sustains our bodies and our souls. I am a simple woman who has a passion for the culinary arts. Ever since I was young I have loved food and it only increases as the years go on. Food is such a part of who I am. My mother potty trained me with m&m’s, my father recruited me for pancake duty on Saturday mornings and I remember watching  my grandma’s cook dinner in the kitchen with wide-eyed fascination.   For over 15 years I have been creating delicious concoctions that have awakened taste buds and filled empty bellies. I cater everything, from charity events of 500 people to weddings of 400 to birthday parties, bridal showers and family holidays of 30 and finally to my own humble table of 4.   My dream of opening a bakery is now a reality. I never wanted the over-sized kitchens of commercial bakeries where efficiency outweighs quality; I am all about keeping it simple. How much more simple can it be than having my bakery based right in my own home? It’s where I know every last corner of my baking station just like the back of my hand. I have the comfort of home but the honor of sharing my passion, my creative talent with you.   I take pride in the fact that everything that comes out of my kitchen is made from simple, natural ingredients. You will never find any added preservatives or components that you cannot pronounce embedded into my finished treats. You can rest assured that everything you sample from us is made with the utmost love but best of all, it's made freshly From Scratch!   Sydney Ballard Founder of From Scratch Baked Goods   Links: https://www.instagram.com/fromscratchbakedgoods/ https://www.instagram.com/ballardlove/ http://www.fromscratchbakedgoods.com   GIVEAWAY - https://www.facebook.com/triplethreadclothing/     Leave a Rating and Review for Thread the Future Find out more at:  Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | Twitter | ThreadtheFuture

063: The Enneagram pt. 2 | Tim & Melissa Elliott

Melissa & Tim Elliott, are avid learners and advocates of The Enneagram. They take us deeper into the different facets of the enneagram we did not cover in Episode 49. They are both passionate and extremely knowledgeable in this subject and encourage those of you searching for your number to reach out and connect! (links below)   The Enneagram - From one point of view, the Enneagram can be seen as a set of nine distinct personality types, with each number on the Enneagram denoting one type. It is common to find a little of yourself in all nine of the types, although one of them should stand out as being closest to yourself. This is your basic personality type. Everyone emerges from childhood with one of the nine types dominating their personality, with inborn temperament and other pre-natal factors being the main determinants of our type. This is one area where most all of the major Enneagram authors agree—we are born with a dominant type. Subsequently, this inborn orientation largely determines the ways in which we learn to adapt to our early childhood environment. It also seems to lead to certain unconscious orientations toward our parental figures, but why this is so, we still do not know. In any case, by the time children are four or five years old, their consciousness has developed sufficiently to have a separate sense of self. Although their identity is still very fluid, at this age children begin to establish themselves and find ways of fitting into the world on their own. Thus, the overall orientation of our personality reflects the totality of all childhood factors (including genetics) that influenced its development. (For more about the developmental patterns of each personality type, see the related section in the type descriptions in Personality Types and in The Wisdom of the Enneagram. There is a discussion of the overall theory in Understanding The Enneagram, 67-70). Several more points can be made about the basic type itself. People do not change from one basic personality type to another. The descriptions of the personality types are universal and apply equally to males and females, since no type is inherently masculine or feminine. Not everything in the description of your basic type will apply to you all the time because you fluctuate constantly among the healthy, average, and unhealthy traits that make up your personality type. The Enneagram uses numbers to designate each of the types because numbers are value neutral— they imply the whole range of attitudes and behaviors of each type without specifying anything either positive or negative. Unlike the labels used in psychiatry, numbers provide an unbiased, shorthand way of indicating a lot about a person without being pejorative. The numerical ranking of the types is not significant. A larger number is no better than a smaller number; it is not better to be a Nine than a Two because nine is a bigger number. No type is inherently better or worse than any other. While all the personality types have unique assets and liabilities, some types are often considered to be more desirable than others in any given culture or group. Furthermore, for one reason or another, you may not be happy being a particular type. You may feel that your type is “handicapped” in some way. As you learn more about all the types, you will see that just as each has unique capacities, each has different limitations. If some types are more esteemed in Western society than others, it is because of the qualities that society rewards, not because of any superior value of those types. The ideal is to become your best self, not to imitate the assets of another type. 058: Joel & Erica Beukelman | Design Inc. | 1011 Make-up & Hair

Joel - Head of Design @DesignInc. Former designer on Android @Google & @Netflix. Host @BalancePodcast podcast & vlogger.  Erica - My love for hair and makeup started as a young child, playing "hair dresser" with my papa, teaching myself to french braid on my barbie doll's head, and painting all over my mom's face (or anyone that would let me). Wanting to go to cosmetology school right out of high school, my father strongly encouraged me to get my degree first. I received my Master's in Marketing and then enrolled immediately into the RCC cosmetology school- I knew my heart was in hair and makeup... however, my husband just thinks I am really a collector of degrees. If I wasn't doing hair and makeup I think my dream job would have been maker of puns... it is my gift.     Links: https://www.instagram.com/bklmn/ https://www.instagram.com/DesignInc/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtIKmvVxNJc&feature=youtu.be   https://www.instagram.com/1011makeup/ http://1011makeup.com Leave a Rating and Review for Thread the Future Find out more at:  Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | Twitter | ThreadtheFuture

056: The Path to Peak Performance | Timothy P. Nash

That defining moment in my life happened in early 1995. I quit my job, got a passport and left town – 23 years old and I’d never been outside my country. Not only did I know little to nothing about where I was going (South Korea), I had zero knowledge about the thing I would be doing there (teaching English). What I did have was a sense of curiosity and a strong desire for something “different”. After 3 years in the financial services industry, I was sick of working with faceless money. “There’s got to be more to life than this!” And so I jumped. __________________________________________________________ Film, literature and music are the three art forms which sustain me. I can’t say which one is most important as they’ve all played a key role in my life at different stages. Therefore, I decided to create a platform where I could interact with like-minded people about good new “intelligent” works of art in these media.   If you like what you read, please let me know. Better yet, share it with someone you think might also enjoy it. I look forward to exchanging with you! 055: Lagom - Bristol Based Lifestyle Magazine | Elliot Jay Stocks

Lagom was founded in 2014 by Bristol-based husband-and-wife team Elliot and Samantha Stocks, and the magazine is created by a team of contributors from around the world.   ‘Lagom’ is a Swedish word with no direct English translation, but loosely describes the concept of having just the right amount of something: not too little, not too much. This general theme of leading a balanced life pervades every issue of Lagom and guides us to new stories. The magazine is divided into three distinct sections: Spaces & Places, Craft & Create, and Escape & Recharge. So, moving through each issue, the reader finds inspirational workspaces, hotels, restaurants, and homes from around the world; then gets to meet the makers and craftspeople creating truly unique work; then finally unwinds with a look at pastimes and hobbies that help attain that all-important sense of balance in our busy, modern lives. Unlike many lifestyle magazines, we eschew pomposity and keep our feet well and truly on the ground, celebrating people rather than image. We care about the personal stories behind the products and the motivations of the world’s creatives. 054: British Floral Designer & Stylist, Poppy Sturley

As a child, I had a beautifully rural upbringing, initially inspired by my mother's knowledge of gardens and nature, I had a childhood full of flowers and grasses freshly picked from the garden and fields, as well as experiencing the English countryside's most beautiful seasonal changes. With a background in flowers I have developed an invaluable and extensive knowledge, having worked with some of London's prestigious floral designers, well known prop stylists, magazines and flower farmers.  My floral recipe's are made with the most wonderful ingredients including British flower farm blooms, fresh market pickings, Cotswold foraged foliage and deliciously scented, home grown roses and flowers from our little family-run cutting garden. With a dedicated tribe of creative designers, these ingredients are made into arrangements using my distinctive, wild, and whimsical technique. As a team, we have established this as our signature style. With an array of design knowledge, we have developed a wedding styling service that includes; bespoke stationary, decorative venue dressing, as well as all your floral arrangements and bridal party flowers, so providing a beautifully coherent and luxurious styled wedding, that is completely, utterly and uniquely you. Every person we meet has different flower ideas. As creatives, the opportunity to style a variety of weddings and events is what we love. Working together, we can create your perfect floral vision.   If you are planning a wedding, event, private party or are interested in collaborating, please do get in contact via email at studio@poppysturley.co.uk, contact page or telephone 07899 842 785. 053: Micah Bournes | Spoken Word, Poetry, Wisdom.

A group of strangers walked into a room in LA. One by one they stood up, shared their most private thoughts, struggles, and desires. To many this sounds terrifying but, after seeing a spoken word open mic, Micah was hooked. That day he decided to give spoken word poetry a try. It worked. Like most kids growing up in Long Beach during the 90s, Micah was raised under the influence of hip hop. He regularly memorized rap lyrics from his favorite songs. But it wasn't until college when he started writing his own music; starting with hip hop and then branching out into the blues. Micah is a creative man of faith. In addition to performing poetry and music, he often speaks and teaches on creative writing, pursuing justice, and the way of Jesus. In partnership with World Relief and The Justice Conference, Micah has been able to share his passions and gifts all over the world.   Links: http://micahbournes.com https://micahbournes.bandcamp.com https://www.instagram.com/micahbournes/   Leave a Rating and Review for Thread the Future Find out more at:  Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | Twitter | ThreadtheFuture

048: Comedian Nazareth

Comedy has the power to quickly shift one’s mood of bleakness to that of cheer and liveliness. Despite one’s race, religion, ethnicity, and social class; it has the capability of uniting people from different backgrounds together, serving as a common denominator to all. It is one thing to be a comedian who can conceive an uproar of laughter in a crowd. However, to be a comedian who can inspire a crowd at the same time is a rare find. Nazareth has been using his talents of bringing comic relief to his audience while directing his acts to help improve their well-being. Nazareth, originally from the Holy Land, has been honing his talents as a comedian for 25 years. Prior to moving to the United States to attend college at the University of Toledo Ohio, he uprooted from Kuwait with nothing other than a passion to make the most of the life he has been given. His passion for comedy ignited when he asked himself one day, “What do I want to do in life that if I never get paid for it, I’d still do it to the best of my ability?” Making people laugh was the only thing that came to mind. The next day, he signed up at a California comedy club for open-mike night. He took the stage before a crowd of nine drunks. Nazareth recalls them laughing so hard that one of them fell off their chair. From the moment that he discovered his talent for bringing comic relief, his desire to do it for a living was without question. Nazareth has seen much success in his 25 year comedic career. His dedication and unrelenting commitment to giving his audience his best performances have bore much fruit. This is has been evident from guest appearances on national television, performing for government official, and receiving accolades by prestigious individuals. The New York Times reported about one of his performances saying, “The show had the audience convulsing.” Nazareth has performed in numerous well-acclaimed stadiums and sports arena across the country. These venues include, but are not limited to, The Famous Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, The Pepsi Arena in Colorado, The Pizza Hut Center and The Toyota Center in Texas, and Notre Dame University’s Concert Hall. Though Nazareth has seen much success in the public eye, there is nothing that motivates his desire to perform his best than using his career and influence to benefit others. There is no questioning his motive for bringing happiness to his viewers. Since beginning his career, he has visited over 200 prisons and death row facilities in the United States, and has brought cheer to the lives of many homeless people. One thing that Nazareth is recognized by his free concerts, known as Laughter For All, that he hosts several times a year. These concerts are often described as inspiring and encouraging as they bring relief to his audience. This event focuses on giving people hope through a spiritual approach by providing entertainment that brings laughter through clean comedic acts. Nazareth’s motivation for hosting these event is to see people who cannot afford to go to a movie or a concert come together as a family, laugh together, and be encouraged. At the end of the night each under-resourced person leaves with a gift and a food box. This sought-after performance draws crowds as big as 5,000 people. Hosting events, such as Laughter For All, is just one of the many ways that Nazareth uses his talent to affect lives. He has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Crisis Pregnancy Centers and other non-profit organizations around the United States. He takes prides in the opportunity he has had in bringing relief to returning Armed Forces in the U.S. and Germany. One of the roles that he takes great joy in is being a director for a ministry that supports Christians in the Gaza Strip. Added to this joy, is his role as co-founder of a ministry that reaches out to thousands of refugees fleeing Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Iran to find refuge in Southern California. Nazareth’s devotion in encouraging people through the art of comedy sets him apart from most comedians. One of the most-remembered compliments of his came from an elderly lady who shared that she had not laughed in five years since she discovered she had cancer. However, in the last two hours she laughed so hard, she forgot about her pain. His desire to see his audience forget their stresses and fear propels him to strive to be the best comedian he can be, with the gift of generating jokes. Though he has the title of an acknowledged comedian, his greatest credit is having the role as husband and father. Nazareth has been happily wed to his wife for almost 19 years, and is a father of 3 children. He resides in Southern California.   Links: https://www.facebook.com/comedian.nazareth/?pnref=lhc http://nazarethusa.com https://www.instagram.com/comediannazareth/   Leave a Rating and Review for Thread the Future Find out more at:  Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | Twitter | ThreadtheFuture
