You probably don't hear about Rick Wade as often as big-name Detroit house colleagues like Theo Parrish, Moodymann, or Kyle Hall, but that doesn't mean he isn't a legend in his own right. Consistently and almost obsessively, Big Daddy Rick has been dropping track after track of effortless deep house since the mid-90s. Sewn together with the perfect amount of kick, subtle oomph, and sweet, floating melody, they're the kind of tunes you simply never want to end; if you're anything like us, you'll drag back them to the start before they do. Right in time for Movement Detroit this weekend, Wade's prepared the second installment of our new THUMP Mix series, and it's soaked with his usual brand of charming deep house, with a little bit of funk mixed in.

  It's kind of crazy to think that UK label Hyperdub has been going for 10 years now, and even crazier to think just how forward-thinking the label's output has been. Back in 2009, a semi-professional footballer and sassy as hell woman called Cooly G released her 'Narst'/'Love Dub' 12". As deep, sparse bangers, flecked with elements of garage and house, the release hit hard in the year that UK funky briefly captured the collective imagination, and made dance floors dip and dive with fervour. Years later, Cooly G has grown from UK funky into a seriously badass DJ, producer and - a rare feat - a truly original, personable figure. 2012's Playin' MeLP was met with critical acclaim on release from underground blogs to national newspapers alike, and her new Hold Me EP sees her get more playful than ever before. In this MIXED BY, Cooly's more recent styling are in full effect. It's less UK funky, more of the deep house that she knows and loves. In short, it's a serious vibe. 

When some faraway species reads stories to their youth about the history of mankind, the section on "Greatest Minds In Electronic Music History" will surely have a hefty chapter on Simon Green, better known to the world as Bonobo. For over a decade, Green has been capturing our membranes with his brilliantly architected brand of downtempo organic rhythms, swaying in the winds between beat-centric trip-hop, lush heavy basslines, and beautifully structured layers of live instrumentation. His studio albums for long found label, Ninja Tune, shattered the bar on experimentation and genre fusing—portraying a vibe so diverse it's fit for everything from a walk in woods, a smoky lounge, and even after-hours in the club.
