85: Three Years of Impact digital radio
Episode in
twice
Thanks to everyone who has supported this largely 'love not money' digital radio show to get to air over the last three years, ninety five episodes, and one hundred and fifty nine guests. This is the last episode publishing for a while, and I wanted to share with you some of the reasons for that difficult decision.
My goal has been to capture and share stories of amazing people striving to make Aotearoa New Zealand a fairer and more socially enterprising place. Originally planned only as a six episode pilot, it’s been great to publish 89 more episodes across a few diverse episode formats.
Thank you to everyone who has given time, energy, insights, support and goodwill to the project, especially BizDojo and Collider Wellington for their support over the last year.
Most of all, thanks to you dear listener, wherever you are in the world, it’s been a real pleasure to share those stories with you, of people making positive impact from Aoteroa New Zealand.
I’m writing up some of my audio learns in bite sized articles, which you can read, over at medium.com/@davidbinstead
Building expertise in a media format completely new to me three years ago has been quite the journey, with highs, painful lows and important learns. Suffice to say, scaling independent digital radio is really, really hard!
I’m more than delighted with what this project has achieved, and after three years I am re-focusing my energy, skills and time to where they can deliver most value.
Seth recently highlighted ‘jumping on the right bus’. Now is the right time for me to re-evaluate this digital audio journey; as information, circumstances, and sentiments dictate.
Now, where’s that bicycle...

#82: Anyone can be an entrepreneur, with Samantha Ryan and Max Bessone at Startup Weekend Wellington #SWWLG
Startup culture is becoming deeply ingrained in the mainstream. Startup weekend returns to Wellington this week, and today I’m exploring some of the positive dents that the volunteer organisers are hoping will come from the 54 relentless hours of the event. Talks With Innovators, Creatives & Enterprisers gathers people making positive dents on society and captures and shares some of their stories, learns and journeys to now. I'm your host David Binstead.

Samantha Ryan, is a serial volunteer and calculated risk-taker - the perfect entrepreneurial mix! When she’s not co-organising Startup Weekend Wellington, she’s a fulltime product manager & marketer, user experience researcher, aspiring writer, artist, and poet. She’s about to start on a new journey at Choice To Pay, a startup redirecting digital payment commissions to good causes.
Max Bessone, enjoys long walks, creating new things, fixing broken things and designing beautiful things. When he’s not giving his time as an organiser and design mentor to Startup Weekend he’s big on responsible design, which lies at the heart of his work to help and improve people’s lives. He’s driven trucks for the Italian army, has played competitive volleyball (to Commonwealth Games level), and is currently training for Ironman 2019.
