When his father was only ten years old, his grandfather was brutally killed caused by jealousy and racial hatred,
The family name has been changed over the years, not always by choice.
Our guest today was not born in Australia, but it would be hard to find anyone more proud of being an Australian.
He is a man of many talents, not only can he look good in a leotard, he is an ex classical guitarist, and he can still remember the name of his first girlfriend when he was only nine.

Considered one of Camberwell Petanque Club's Elder Statesmen, our next guest was born just some 350 Kms South of the Arctic circle in Norway.
At the time, the Village he grew up in was occupied by Nazi Germany.
Contrary to popular opinion he did not do the daily travel of 100kms to the high school on skis, but he could have.
On coming to Australia he excelled in the world of finance and accounting including as a senior partner with Earnst & Young and Director with Melbourne Water
And, he has inspired many others in his career
As well, he served as Honorary Consul General for Norway
He has played golf, badly, Sailed incredibly well,
But skis to perfection.
And if you have seen him play petanque you will know his very singular style.

Bill Earle. From the Stawell Gift to the Tokyo Olympics

William Joseph Earle, known as Bill, was a remarkable Australian athlete known for his impressive performance in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Born in Stawell, Victoria, he developed a passion for athletics from a young age, showcasing his talent in various track events. Bill Earle made a significant mark on the national stage, becoming a prominent figure in Australian sports.
At the Tokyo Games, he competed in the men's 4 x 100 relay, a challenging event that requires not only speed but astute Strategy and strength. The Australian team's time was only a mere 1.1 second from the outright winner
His journey from Stawell to the Olympic stage is a testament to his perseverance and determination. Bill Earle’s career in teaching has taken him from the Western Suburbs of Melbourne to The UK and Canada and Back
Bill and his family are synonymous with the Stawell Gift which is Australia's oldest and richest short-distance running race. Bill’s grandmother was responsible for providing the Gold medal for the winner. It replaced the gift of a goat that was part of the original wining prize cache.
The Footscray Mechanic's Institute - established in 1856, had the honour of hosting his recent presentation which was introduced by Doug Clymo, life member of the FMI and very long term friend of Bills.

Our next guest and member of the Camberwell Petanque Club has had an extraordinary career with a number international companies around the world, particularly France. He was appointed Chairman of the Australia France Foundation founded by Prime Ministers Rocard & Hawk. He was made a Chevalier National l’order of Merit. He has over 100 menus from the top restaurants in France. Among many other appointments he was Delegue Payee For Rhone Poulenc. Director of Stem Cell Sciences KK .On the Board of what was to become the National Stroke Foundation. In one day he was forced to enjoy copious quantities of Dom Perignon Champange. He enjoys playing tennis, Chamber music and of course Petanque.
He didn’t enjoy being swept overboard in Bass Strait
In 2024 he and his wife Libby, spent 71 nights away travelling, and taking in over 30 music concerts.
He has over 600 framed photographs in his entrance way at his home.
