New Wineskin

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins. Mark 2:22 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Louis Els shared on Sunday titled ‘New Wineskin’. Firstly, we need to understand that the new wine is not our responsibility. God will take care of the wine. It is His Spirit and His life and He wants to pour it out on us. However, if new wine enters an old wine skin, the skin might burst, causing the wine and the skin to be lost. This is where we see our responsibility: the state of our wine skin. This means submitting to the way God wants us to live and the way He wants to do things. It is easy to want God to do things the way we think they should be done, but that is rarely the way He will do things. He calls everyday people to stand up for His Kingdom and do what He calls us to do. Thankfully, we do not need to do this alone. God wants to make sure that we don’t burst. He wants to look after us. If we feel dry and brittle and empty, Jesus is ready and waiting to restore us and anoint us so that we can take in the new wine without being offended and hurt by it. What areas of your life have become like old wineskins? What is God calling you to do to advance His Kingdom? How can you surrender yourself afresh in order to allow God to restore and align you? Being the Hands & Feet of Jesus

Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.” Mark 10:21 (NKJV) This week we will be looking at the word that Tich Smith shared on Sunday titled ‘Being the Hands & Feet of Jesus’. Firstly, it is important to remember that Jesus does not ask us to surrender just a little bit of our lives to Him. He didn’t ask the rich young ruler to sell some of his possessions, He told him to “sell whatever you have”. We are called to lay all we have at His feet and to follow Him. Secondly, we need to remember what is important to Jesus. People are what He cares about. It is easy for us to get distracted by the things of the world, but Jesus’ focus is on the lost. He cares about the widow and the orphan and the destitute and we need to make sure that we don’t just ‘do our bit for Jesus’ instead of truly being a light that shines in a lost and broken world. Finally, we have to do things God’s way. Our common sense usually serves us well, but when God speaks, we need to put it aside and obey His voice. When we do, we will see the miraculous follow. What parts of your life do you need to surrender to Jesus? What distracts you from the call of Jesus in your life? Are you ‘just doing your bit for Jesus’? Ask Jesus to lay on your heart the people He wants you to reach out to. The post Being the Hands & Feet of Jesus appeared first on Victory Church, Jeffreys Bay.

Stronger Than the Struggle

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10 (NASB 1995) This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor George Gourlay shared on Sunday titled ‘Stronger Than the Struggle’. Firstly, it is important for us to remember that we as Christians are not told that God will remove every storm that comes our way. In fact, we are told that we will suffer for Christ’s sake. Instead of trying to avoid hard things in life, we should become experts at dealing with the difficulties of life. We see in 1 Peter 5:10 that it is after we have “suffered for a little while” that God will “restore” us and make us “strong, firm and steadfast”. Secondly, we must remember that we can’t do this without God. When we try to get through the hard things in life in our own strength we end up angry, exhausted, burnt out and even unhealthy. When we rely on God to get through the storms of life we are able to produce the Fruit of the Spirit in the midst of hardship and difficulty. Finally, we will see that as we go through this process, God will establish us and make us stable people. He will work on our foundations so that He can build something great in and through us. What storms are you facing at the moment? How do you normally face difficulties in life? How can you rely on God to get you through what you’re facing? Jesus our Friend, Brother and King

But those who wish to boast     should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord Jeremiah 9:24a This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Marno Jansen shared on Sunday titled ‘Jesus our Friend, Brother and King’. Firstly, we must realise that God is indescribable. He is self-sufficient, sovereign and omnipresent. He is our creator, our provider and perfect Father. We can’t try to make Him small enough to understand. He is so much more than we can comprehend. However, He still wants to have a personal relationship with us. He has no need for us, because He is totally perfect, and yet He chooses to love us for exactly who we are. He initiates relationships with us, even when we don’t love Him at all and our response should be to seek Him with all our heart. Finally, is our call to make His name known in all the world. Our salvation and relationship with God is not just for us, but also for us to share with others. Just as much as God loves us, He loves the whole world and He calls us to spread the Good News wherever we go. Which aspect of God’s indescribable nature stands out to you and why? Discuss some practical ways to make seeking God a priority. How can you share your revelation of God’s nature and relationship with Him with someone else this week? The Jesus Way

so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13:4-5 This week we will be looking at the word that Brenton Brown shared with us on Sunday entitled ‘The Jesus Way’. Firstly, it is important for us to remember that if we want to know what God is like, the best way to learn is to look at Jesus. We as children of God should follow the example set by Jesus because He Himself said that ‘anyone who has seen me has seen the Father’ (John 14:9). Jesus is perfect theology! Secondly, we need to realise that Jesus served those around Him. He got down on His knees and washed the feet of the disciples, even though it was a dirty, unpleasant job. He did this to show the disciples and us that no one is above serving others. We should seek to imitate His example in this by serving those around us, even when it is uncomfortable and inconvenient. Finally, in the Kingdom of God, this principle of serving is linked to greatness. Jesus changes the definition of greatness from being successful, powerful, rich and beautiful to being a servant. If we want to be great, we should focus on loving and caring for others. Who could you show the love of Jesus to by serving them? What could you do to serve your family, friends, coworkers and community? What does greatness mean to you? The post The Jesus Way appeared first on Victory Church, Jeffreys Bay.

Hope Restored

After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19: 12-13 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Louis Els Jr shared on Sunday entitled ‘Hope Restored’. Firstly, it is important to understand that all of us will have our hope challenged. Even after defeating the prophets of Baal, Elijah still faced fear and lost hope. We all have our moments ‘under the tree’, but that is not the end. Secondly, we need to remember that God has not abandoned us. He is faithful and will never leave us. He will walk us through our challenging circumstances and situations. He will make a way for us to get out of our place of exhaustion, depression and hopelessness. Finally, we need to make sure that we follow God when He leads us into our ‘cave’ and listen for His still, small voice. It is in the stillness and intimacy of relationship with God that we find our breakthrough. How have you seen God move in the past? What challenging circumstances are you facing at the moment? Where do you think your cave is? Where is God calling you to meet with you? The post Hope Restored appeared first on Victory Church, Jeffreys Bay.

What Is God Doing On Earth

“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. Acts 9:5 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Ross Rogers shared on Sunday on ‘How to Get Out of the Mud’. Firstly, it is important that we understand that Jesus is first and foremost, Lord. He is also our friend and our saviour, but we cannot forget the absolute authority that He carries. When we’re stuck in the mud, we want Jesus our friend, but we actually need Jesus our Lord to direct us. Secondly, we need to realise that sometimes our eyesight can hinder our insight. When we’re in the mud, there’s so much that can overload our senses. We must learn to rely on the revelation that the Holy Spirit gives to our spirits, not what we see around us with our eyes. Finally, we must rediscover who God has made us to be. We can do this by looking at how we have experienced Jesus. By looking at who Jesus has revealed Himself to be, we can see who He is calling us to be. 1. What would your life look like if you lived like Jesus was your Lord? 2. In what part of your life do you need to stop looking around and start getting vision from God? 3. Who has Jesus revealed Himself to be in your life? What You See is What You Get

And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” Exodus 3:14 This week we will be looking at the word that one of our elders Craig Galloway shared on Sunday entitled ‘What You See is What You Get’. Firstly, Craig highlighted the importance of having a revelation of the greatness of God. It is not about us! It’s about who our God is. He is so much greater than we could ever hope to understand, and yet He chooses to love us with all our faults. This change of perspective can shift the way we live our lives. Secondly, we need a revelation of Jesus. He was not just a historical figure and He is not just our friend. He is the Son of the living God. His teachings are not just good advice or a truth for some people. His words are the truth and we need to treat them as such. Finally, Craig asked us to ponder our response to this understanding of who God is. Here are some questions to help you think it over: What does it look like for you to cut out all the other voices and focus solely on what God is saying? We often place limitations on God in order to help us comprehend Him. How can you remove those limitations and allow the greatness of God to impact your life? How will you respond to society’s claims about the truth that go against our understanding of God as the ‘I am’? The post What You See is What You Get appeared first on Victory Church, Jeffreys Bay.

Contend For The Faith

Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion. Jude 1:11 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Grant Walters shared on Sunday entitled ‘Contend for the Faith’. Ps Grant highlighted three points out of the book of Jude that can be ‘knockout blows’ to us in our Christian walk. Firstly, we need to make sure not to walk in the way of Cain. We cannot play church and think that is enough. God does not want our self-righteous offerings; He wants us to live with genuine faith, in relationship with Him. Secondly, we need to avoid the error of Balaam. We need to maintain the integrity of our faith. It is easy to get distracted by material things, positions of authority or fame. We must remember that our relationship with God comes before all these things. We also need to make sure that we do not cause other believers to stumble. Finally, we need to combat the rebellion of Korah. God has placed people in positions of spiritual authority. We are to honour them, not speak or plan against them behind their backs. This applies even when they get things wrong. In which areas of your life are you operating in self-righteousness? What worldly distractions are tempting you to sacrifice your faith? How do you relate to your spiritual leaders? Do you need to repent for any rebellion, even just in your heart? The post Contend For The Faith appeared first on Victory Church, Jeffreys Bay.

Heart of a Father

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her James 2:13 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Marius Gradwell shared on Sunday on the ‘Heart of a Father’. Firstly, we need to remember to celebrate and honour. This applies both as children and as parents. Not only does God love it when we celebrate and honour Him, but also when we celebrate and honour those around us. Celebration reveals what we believe and honour reveals what we value, so it is important that we celebrate and honour what God has placed in each other. Secondly, we need to remember the mission and model that God has given us for family. The mission is to bring the kingdom of God to earth and produce a Godly legacy. The model is Christ and His church. Finally, we need to know that God’s heart is for the role of men, and specifically father’s, to be recovered and restored. Ps Marius strongly challenged the fathers not to shy away from the responsibility that God has given them as the leaders of their family and asked the wives to help the men as supporters. What do you celebrate and honour in the people around you? How do you celebrate and honour the people around you? Who in your family do you need to reach out to so that God can recover and restore relationships? The post Heart of a Father appeared first on Victory Church, Jeffreys Bay.

A Life Worth Imitating

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Philippians 3:12 (NKJV) This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Richard Meyer shared on Sunday entitled ‘A Life Worth Imitating’. Firstly we need to get our aim right: when people follow me they should be following Jesus. We need to make sure that we keep in mind that part of being a part of the kingdom of God is drawing people closer to Jesus. Secondly, we need to be grounded in reality: our actions speak louder than our words. We cannot profess to be Christians and only act like it on Sundays during a church gathering. We should be the same person during the week so that people can see that our faith is authentic and not just an act. Finally, we need to remember that we will never fully attain that which we are striving for. Perfection is not the goal; progress is the goal. In order to live a life worth imitating, we must model what it looks like to grow and mature as we follow Christ. How can you daily remind yourself of your aim to lead people to Jesus? Which area of your life needs adjusting so that your actions ‘speak Jesus’ throughout your week? What is your next step in maturing, and how will you allow people to witness this growth? Pentecost Sunday

In the last days, God says,     I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy,     your young men will see visions,     your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor John Scholtz shared on Pentecost Sunday. Firstly, we need to remember that we should not be divided on side issues like when or how we are baptised with the Holy Spirit. What is most important is that we are baptised in Him. We can look at it like a house. When we get saved, some of us put the Holy Spirit in the guest room. When we are baptised in the Holy Spirit, we give Him access to the whole house and He floods our lives. Secondly, we need to get desperate for Him. God reacts when we cry out in desperation for Him. Great revival is always preceded by believers who are desperate for God and who humbled themselves before Him. If we want to see revival, we must get desperate. Finally, we need to understand that we always need to be touched again by His Spirit. We can’t become so secure in the way things are now that we stop relying on the Holy Spirit. He always has something new He wants to do with us. How much of your ‘house’ have you surrendered to the Holy Spirit? Are you desperate for the Holy Spirit? When last did you encounter the power of the Holy Spirit? Would you like to be touched by Him again today? The post Pentecost Sunday appeared first on Victory Church, Jeffreys Bay.

The Power Of Persistent Prayer

Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.” Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 1 Kings 18:37-38 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Barret Grieve shared on Sunday entitled ‘The Power of Persistent Prayer’. Firstly, it is important for us to realize that praying once because we are ‘people of faith’ is not what God calls us to do. Even Jesus prayed three times in the garden of Gethsemane. We are called to be faithful in prayer and to respect God’s divine timing. Secondly, we need to understand that our prayers are powerful. We can start and stop things through persistent prayer. Just as Elijah’s prayers brought rain to the land so too can our prayers bring change to our lives, our community and our country. Thirdly, when we pray persistently, it allows us to see the breakthrough before others do and to act with confidence and boldness because we know what God has said. Finally, we must remember to look for the little things. The clouds began small but grew to become large. We need to look for the small signs of prayer working to keep us encouraged to pray for greater things. How many times do you normally pray for something before giving up or moving on? What are you trusting for in your life that you can pray more persistently for? What can you pray for beyond your own life to bring a change in your community or country? Intentional Living

So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away. 2 Peter 1:10 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Paul Dennison shared on Sunday entitled ‘Intentional Living’. Pastor Paul preached out of 2 Peter 1, specifically verses 5-7, and touched on a number of values that Peter encouraged believers to cultivate in their lives. The values are as follows: 1) Faith 5) Patient Endurance 2) Moral Excellence 6) Godliness 3) Knowledge 7) Brotherly Affection 4) Self-Control8) Love for Everyone We should note that these are not just virtues that we add to our lives once and then move on. We are called to grow these virtues continually as we strive to become more like Christ. We need to “make every effort” to cultivate them in our lives. It is also important to understand that whilst our journey begins with faith in Jesus, the goal is always to move towards self-sacrificing love for everyone. This way, our growth is not just for the sake of growth, but also to be able to reveal Jesus to those around us. Which of these areas do you struggle with the most? What would it look like for you to “make every effort” to develop these in your life? How could growing these virtues in your life impact your friends, family and larger community? Cause and Effect

but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” Luke 4:43 This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Louis shared on Sunday entitled ‘Cause and Effect’. Firstly, we need to understand the importance of the Kingdom of God. One of the main purposes of Jesus’ life on earth was to establish and proclaim the Kingdom of God. We too are called to take back ground from the enemy and advance the Kingdom. Secondly, we need to remember the Cause of the Kingdom. The Cause is that which motivates us to take a stand like David stood up for Israel against Goliath. The Cause is motivated by principles and values which we as a Kingdom people hold to and will not let go of regardless of what the world or the popular culture of our day says. Finally, we need to take action. We cannot understand the Kingdom Cause and then sit idly by. We cannot simply enjoy the benefits of the Kingdom and ignore our responsibilities. We have been given Time, Treasure and Talents and we are called to use them to advance the Kingdom of God. Is the Kingdom of God a priority in your life? What principles and values would you stand up for, even if it was unpopular? How are you giving of your Time, Treasure and Talents? Do you need to give more? Mom’s,Messes and Miracles

And she said, “O my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the Lord. For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him. 1 Samuel 1:26-27 (NKJV) This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Edna shared on Mother’s Day this Sunday entitled ‘Moms, Messes and Miracles’. Ps Edna was sharing specifically around motherhood, but we’ll be taking the principles and applying them to our lives as believers. Firstly, great people have great problems. We will inevitably face struggles in our lives and this does not mean that God has abandoned us. We must stay away from blaming and shaming and instead, take the opportunity to pour our hearts out to Him so that He can be our comfort and our rock. Secondly, great people have great priorities. Even when there is a lot going on around us, we need to make God and our families the two primary priorities in our lives. This is especially true once we are married and even more so once we have children. We need to honour God and our spouse, and take good care of our children. Finally, great people make God good plans their own. It is easy for us to make our own plans, but it is God’s purposes that will ultimately prevail. If we can submit to His plans we will be able to walk in the victory that He has for us. In which areas of your life do you need to release control back to God? Are you stuck in a cycle of judgement? Who can you extend mercy to in order to break it? Is there genuine unity in your family? If not, who do you need to honour?
