Two games since the last podcast. Two games which tell us a lot. The Caps pulled out a big win over a very poor Galaxy side. And they put up a very brave effort against a very good Tigres side. So the Whitecaps aren’t off to the best start. There’s just two goals in three league games. Oh, and two red cards. And some real struggles moving the ball through midfield. The Whitecaps have one clear task ahead of them this season: fix the defending. There was a lot which went wrong there, but there was a lot that went right a year before. It’s an intriguing. The podcast is back. We were off for too long. Sounds fitting, sadly, for the end of the Whitecaps’ season. Marc Weber joins Patrick Johnston to look at a team clearly on the verge of transition. The Whitecaps are still in it. It’s a paper-thin margin…but there’s still a chance for MLS playoffs. In the meantime, things have continued to look…off in the land of Vancouver pro soccer. Carl Robinson has brought in new faces, and sent some young ones out to see the world. The team has huge questions at right back. The wonderful spine of 2015 has looked poor in 2016. There are ten games left in the season: can the Caps find the form they need to make the playoffs? The Whitecaps haven’t been playing well and yet they’re still in the mix. Patrick Johnston and Marc Weber see a team in transition. There are new veterans on the way in. Adding Fabian Espindola, David Edgar and Marcel de Jong is a shift towards veterans, away from kids. Masato Kudo has had a strong return to the lineup. But Jordan Smith’s time may be coming to an end. The manager says he’s looking for a couple more players — will he bring in another striker? It’s a busy few weeks to come, with the team in Texas twice over the next week. A trip to the All Star Game for Kendall Waston. A trip to Trinidad. Let’s get to it.
