"Unleashing Your Inner Hero: The Power of Self-Leadership" with Adrian Koehler
In this episode of the "Why Not You" podcast, Glade Poulsen host, interviews Adrian Koehler, a leadership coach and co-host of two podcasts; #1. Raising the Bar and #2. The Naked Leadership Podcast.
In this podcast episode, leadership coach Adrian Koehler discusses the importance of self-leadership and how to lead oneself. According to Adrian, self-leadership is about being the executive of your own life and managing the space suit that is your brain. It's about taking responsibility for your choices and participating fully in your own life.
Adrian emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and self-inquiry. Before attempting to lead others, you must first understand yourself and your values. It's also essential to have clarity and conviction about your vision for the future. Having a clear goal in mind is crucial for effective leadership.
Taking ownership of your career reality is another crucial aspect of self-leadership. "Reflect on your actions and consider how you may be contributing to your own problems. Remember that perception is reality, and your beliefs and insecurities can shape your perception of the world."
Adrian challenges listeners to pick a future worth having and be willing to sacrifice for it. Sacrifice may involve looking dumb until you can learn something, or asking for help. Ultimately, leading oneself is the most heroic act and requires getting to know oneself and taking on challenges with a clear vision in mind.
If you're interested in learning more about personal and corporate leadership, check out Adrian's workshops and resources. He offers a free negotiation quiz as well as the upcoming "Revenant Process," a four-day deep dive personal leadership accelerant process.
Take control of your life and become the leader you were meant to be. Start with self-leadership and see where it takes you.

Social Media Marketing is DEAD! S2E9 with Samina Chowdhury
Samina Chowdhury is a first generation immigrant from Bangladesh who, after graduating from college, married her sweetheart and began their dream of owning a home and living the “AMERICAN DREAM”. Shortly after purchasing their first home she and her husband began flipping homes and working with other immigrants who wanted to live the American Dream. That began her successful Real Estate Career in the Maryland area where she has risen to the top of the real estate cycles and been featured in Forbes magazine and other local news and radio stations. Social Media is dead and does not replace relationship marketing. Maybe in the past few years one could build a Real Estate Business with social media posts and “APPEAR” to be doing well but now, in this market as well as markets in the past, skill and knowhow is critical. Frankly, most people really don’t care about your cat or what you ate for lunch! Listen in on how Simina explains her White Glove approach to serving her clients. Principle based marketing/selling, going the extra mile, and relationships is where the present day real estate professionals will not only survive, but THRIVE.
So when it comes to listing a house, when I go meet a seller, I first understand the seller's needs. We talk about the pricing and everything, what to list it for. Then the next step happens as soon as I'm out, my stager calls them. My stager goes and meets with them, and in every part of the house room by room, my stager goes and gives a whole new report on what to do in each part of the house. Now, keep in mind, it could be to a point where they might need to paint the room. If so, my chief concierge service person has access to all the sub-contractors. I don't want me or my clients calling these contractors and saying, Hey, why didn't you charge so much? Or When are you starting? When are you finishing? Why didn't you show up?
That is his job. He needs to do all that for my clients and make sure that the work is done on time so that we are ready to list. While they are doing that, they need to declutter the house. I send moving boxes to my clients. They fill in those moving boxes. Those boxes have my name and logo on it. Then my professional photographer goes and then my videographer. But you know, you gotta put in the work, you gotta put in the hard work. You gotta show them in every step of the process that you are working on, making sure it's a streamlined process and you're taking all the burdens off their shoulders because I'm the professional here.

S2E6 How to Create Your Own Mindset, Vision, and Habits by Network Marketing expert Bob Beardon
Bob Beardon and Glade Poulsen talk about how when Bob finally understood the inner workings of Relationship Marketing, MLM, or Network Marketing and how it all worked, it was a lot of fun and we quickly went to the top of several companies compensation plans. However, when some of these MLM companies start to have success, they forget how they got there and for the sake of this being a public podcast, let's just leave it at this point: The owners and management team, well, they sort of lose their minds for a moment, or longer, and things go from a clear vision with millions of new members pouring in monthly and then decisions and direction go completely off the rails!
Bob and Glade explain how the personal growth and development industry and mentors like Jim Rohn and Napoleon Hill helped them deal with adversity and helped develop a real purpose in life. How, as Jim Rohn states, "The wind of adversity blows on us all, however, it is the set of the sail that makes all the difference!" When the wind blows on us all, we need to "Control the Controllable's" and about the own thing we can control is our mind. The three keys to developing your own Mindset, Vision, and Habits comes by controlling the 3 things you can control. 1. What you Read 2. What you Listen to and 3. What you watch!
By controlling the intake of these 3 things, we can begin to overwrite the Neurological Super Highways of our own minds and replace negative self-talk and habits.

S2E5 Karl Beckstrand: Make a Message from your "MESS". What's the story inside of you?
And as you work with editors you realize they're your friend and they're gonna help you, and they know what they're doing. Hopefully you'll hire people who are well recommended and know what they're doing and who are professionals, and not just someone who studied English once. Yes, I've had editors do things that I didn't like. The wonderful thing about it is that as the author, you have final say, if you're not working with a giant publishing house, you have final say as to what is actually said. In the end, you can take an editor's view with a grain of salt. You don't have to incorporate it into your book. The other thing that's wonderful about the editing process is it's an education, and the more books you have edited and the more feedback you've seen on your own writing, the more your writing will improve.
I think it's easy to get over any sense of rejection by just remembering that, oh, I'm so relieved that this one person caught all those mistakes, rather than a million readers. Right. And as you work with editors, you realize they're your friend and they're gonna help you, and they know what they're doing.

S2E4 Jason Criddle Start Small and Keep Going...Take small incremental steps and be persistent and consistent
My Mother was laying in the hospital bed and she told me that nobody cares about taking care of their health until they're dying from not taking care of their health. And you know, even though I had gone on this long fitness journey, I found myself not caring about my health again and prioritizing making money, prioritizing being a stay-at-home father instead of prioritizing the thing that caused cancer to take my mom away early and after she was gone, after she left, I went into a really bad place for almost a year. So 2021 for me was just like a blur of anger and sadness and realizing that there were a whole bunch of conversations that I still wanted to have with my mom that I was never gonna be able to have again. I think that was the hardest part of it for me was, you know, like even though I didn't think about my mom on a regular basis, whenever I did think about her, I could just pick up my phone and I could text her and then having this long realization that I wasn't gonna be able to text her.

S2E3 Laura Pattillo Farm Girl, Opera Singer, Mother/Home Schooler of 5, & Author of 64+books!
So that's a hard question. Not because I don't know the answer, but because sometimes these are hard to share, right? One of the biggest things I struggle with, I have a special needs child and he's high functioning. He's gonna live at life just fine, but he's got several learning disabilities. He's the reason I homeschool one of those kids who's super brilliant outside the box, but you put him in a classroom and he completely fails. And I've learned how to work with him, how to teach him in the way that he actually understands and works with. I've had a child with an addiction that I've had to work through. That was a lot of hard years. There was a lot of years of struggle in the beginning of my writing with self-worth as a singer. I was super, super visible. This is not something I like to necessarily tell a lot of people.
The ugly part, which is when you're getting to the raw part.
Glade Poulsen: (24:43)
We all have something or multiple things!!
Laura Pattillo: (24:53)
Exactly.
Glade Poulsen: (24:53)
And I think this is really good for people to understand. It hurts.
Laura Pattillo: (25:00)
It does. Shifting into the being a full-time stay-at-home mom and being a writer actually was a really hard transition for me as a singer. I was super visible and I was at a soloist. I wasn't someone just in the choir. And so I would go places and have people stop me and say, I saw you sing at this, you know? And when you're home with four toddlers and you're changing diapers on three of them all day long, that's not a visible thing. Right. And it's really easy to get lost in that and it's really easy to feel like nobody notices what I do. But I'm working harder at being a mom than I ever worked at being an opera singer and transitioning into authorship and being a writer gave me an outlet. But it's not necessarily something that's super visible either, which is fine, I've gotten past that.

S2E2 Eric Zuzack: Channeling Your Sexual Energy to Success!
I knew I had a problem but I wasn't quite sure how to address it. It's a really embarrassing thing, you know, even more taboo than drugs and alcohol.
You introduce yourself by saying, hi, my name is Eric, I'm a sexaholic and I'm powerless over porn. And then you go on to describe some of the worst behaviors you've had. And that is totally, completely opposite of what I'm learning in personal development. And it was so hard for me, it really messed me up. But I was committed to “Professionals”, and they said I needed to go to these meetings. And so I went to Sexual Compulsive Anonymous and Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous. I went to Alcoholics Anonymous, even though I'm not alcoholic. I went to all these different 12 step meetings. I became a professional 12 stepper. And all along I'm saying I'm powerless, I'm powerless over this. And the idea just for people that aren't familiar is you say you're powerless over it and you turn it over to God.
I'm a very spiritual person. But there's also a thing that says God helps those who help themselves. You know, so it may work for some people, but the whole powerlessness thing wasn't working for me. So finally after going to these meetings for years and still not being very successful in quitting, I just said there's gotta be another way. And so I had looked at all different things online. I found this little app that used the science of mindfulness to break addictions. And just that app no longer exists unfortunately. But I just, on a whim I was creating my login and password and I decided, you know, I'm gonna put in powerful Eric as my login. And in that moment, pitiful, powerless, porn addicted, Eric died and, POWERFUL ERIC was born. I don't call myself Powerful Eric out of ego. That's out of having called myself a piece of crap and powerless for all those years.

S2E1 Randy Wilson Making Pivots in Life When Getting Punched In Life!
Realizing Randy was not in control, after being told his store was closing and they would no longer need his services, He realized that he wasn't in control!
"I wanted to know why? I wanted to know why all that effort basically was just being blown away really. I didn't understand why I was working so hard and getting very little out of it. Once again, I had a great family, my kids were doing fine, we lived in a nice home, everything was okay, but it wasn't the experience that I was looking for. When I realized that I was not in control, I was trying to figure out what I could do to get that back. And the only thing I could think of to do was to go to the library to seek answers. And the ironic part is that, as I've mentioned, I didn't enjoy school. I'm not a great reader, but I knew or I just had a feeling that was going be the place where I would find the answer to these questions that I was having at that point."
