She is a member of the Institute for Corporate Directors Climate Strategy Advisory Board for the Canadian Chapter of the WEF Climate Governance Initiative and sits on the Board of Directors of Leading Change and Sustainable Buildings Canada. Sarah has over a decade of work experience as a thought leader, consultant and auditor. She has dedicated her career to environmental issues and is a recognized voice on the financial impacts of ESG issues for the Canadian business community. On this episode of Words with WMN, we welcome the founder and co-CEO of Black Business Atlas Inc (“BBA”), Kayla Crawley! Kayla, with an Honours degree in Criminology from the University of Ottawa, felt the urge to do more for the black community in Montreal during a time of social justice, equality, and inclusivity. She created a platform on facebook called Black Business Atlas- Building our Community in June 2020, following the social uprising caused by the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breanna Taylor and George Floyd. This platform has grown tremendously and is now a group to allow members to exchange on various topics ranging from current events to cultural issues. This led to Kayla founding BBA which although is in the early stages of its life as an operating company, Kayla has big dreams for the business and she hopes to extend its reach to a national and eventually international level. Malak is a senior officer at the department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada where she is currently leading an international project aimed at combatting illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the Pacific Ocean. The University wants to cut employee benefits in the midst of a pandemic and has yet to fill front line positions to protect students and the professors - all while still being $200 million over budget. WMN stands with the employees of the University of Ottawa and demands better respect for those who help them through their schooling. This episode we have Ashley Foster, a Relationship Manager from the Telfer Career Centre, as our guest. She shares all the advice and tips she has for students on choosing a career path, setting up coffee chats, and networking during a pandemic.
