Jason Bayani is a graduate of Saint Mary’s MFA program in Creative Writing. He is a Kundiman fellow and a veteran of the National Poetry Slam scene. His work has been published in Fourteen Hills, Muzzle Magazine, Mascara Review, the National Poetry Slam anthology, Rattapallax, Write Bloody’s classroom anthology, Learn Then Burn, and other publications. He has been on 7 National Poetry Slam teams, he is a National Poetry Slam finalist, and was the 2010 International World Poetry Slam representative for Oakland, California. He is also one of the founding members of the Filipino American Spoken Word troupe, Proletariat Bronze, and has been an organizer for the Asian and Pacific Islander Poetry and Spoken Word Summit. He currently lives in Austin, Texas where he is an English Instructor.

The Nebraska Girls Lit Hour features Conney Williams

Conney Williams is a Los Angeles based poet, actor and performance artist originally from  Shreveport, Louisiana where he worked as a radio personality. He has published two  poetry collections “Leaves of Spilled Spirit from an Untamed Poet (2002/2008)” and his latest, “Blues Red Soul Falsetto (2012).”  His  poetry has also been published in various publications and anthologies including  Voices from Leimert Park; America: At the End of the Day; and The Drumming  Between Us. He has appeared on stage and television. Conney  was the 3rd Place winner  in the Inner-City Culture Center acting competition in 1992. He has performed  his poetry on television, radio, galleries, universities, grade schools, coffee houses, and stages around Southern California and across the country;  including the Black Arts Festival.  He is a talented public speaker with  over 30 years of experience. He is a community activist and has worked  with youth for over 25 years. He is formerly an ordained minister and Youth  Pastor in the Church of God in Christ. He hosted a weekly cable television  bible study and also recorded a gospel rap CD called L.I.F.E (1985).   He  is the Artistic Director at the World Stage in Leimert Park; and is a member  and current Coordinator for the Anansi Writers Workshop. This workshop at the  World Stage has produced some the most respected African American writers in the country. His has collaborated with artist Charles Bibbs on the production of WordArt; a monthly event of poetry, jazz, and visual art. He has hosted several poetry venues and been a  curator for many poetry/jazz events throughout Los Angeles. He has been the  Poet’s Stage Coordinator for the Leimert Park Book Fair for five of its  six-year existence.

Laura Madeline Wiseman is the author of seven collections of poetry, including the full-length book SPRUNG (San Francisco Bay Press, 2012), the letterpress book UNCLOSE THE DOOR (Gold Quoin Press, 2012), and the recent chapbooks SHE WHO LOVES HER FATHER (Dancing Girl Press, 2012) and BRANDING GIRLS (Finishing Line Press, 2011). She is also the editor of WOMEN WRITE RESISTANCE: POETS RESIST GENDER VIOLENCE (Hyacinth Girl Press, 2013). Laura Madeline Wiseman has a doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she teaches English. Her poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and reviews have appeared in Margie, Poet Lore, Blackbird, Arts & Letters, Prairie Schooner, Feminist Studies, Thirteenth Moon, American Short Fiction, Cream City Review, and elsewhere. She has received an Academy of American Poets Award, a Mari Sandoz/Prairie Schooner Award, a Will P. Luivette Resto was born in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico but proudly raised in the Bronx. Her first poetry book Unfinished Portrait was published by Tia Chucha Press in 2008 and was also named a finalist for the 2009 Paterson Poetry Prize. She is a contributing editor for Kweli Journal, a Canto Mundo fellow, and the hostess of a monthly poetry reading series called La Palabra located at Avenue 50 Studio in Highland Park. Her latest book Ascension just came out this March, also published by Tia Chucha Press.
