YGSSTD 8 - Surf's up! with Preston Wheeler
Episode in
You've Got Some Spain-ing To Do
I’m back! And with a dumb title for a podcast and everything! Been busy/lazy with things out here in Spain. And now all of a sudden I’m gonna be heading back to America in 10 days or something. As Preston and I discuss: time must fly when it’s raining all the darn time. But we persevere, and Preston gives some insight into riding the waves out here in Basque country. Lots to do while these days dwindle away, stand by for as many things as I can handle.

You've Got Some Spain-ing To Do
Hanna and I talk about many things. So many, many things! Language, tourism, terrorism, napping and probably more! “¡Qué Interesante!” as we say in Spain. Thanks very much for listening to the podcast, we hope you enjoy it.
And here is the ridiculous picture of the dog I took on our tour through Basque country last weekend:

YGSSTD 5 - Considering the Basques with Rachel Montgomery
Episode in
You've Got Some Spain-ing To Do
In this episode, we try to get down to the details of one of the potential purposes for this study trip to Spain. Talking with Rachel Montgomery, she describes her experience so far in the immediate city of San Sebastián, as well as her trip into rural Basque country and the differences between the two areas. What can we learn from the Basques struggle for national independence and autonomy? The attempt to understand this long-sought desire remains a challenge for us, especially when overwhelmed by the glamor of this beautifully charming tourist location. These are the larger considerations placed within the entire arena of studying abroad, things that are paramount to learning but likely impossible to fully understand in 10 weeks time.

-Pretty sure any time I said “North” I meant “East” and “South” I meant “West.”-“Tiny” can of Heineken is 330 ml (or 33 cl as it is notated here).-The bay is actually called “Bahía de La Concha,” or “The Shell Bay”-The name of the island is “Isla Santa Clara.”-There is apparently a small bar on “Isla Santa Clara.”-The three mountains of San Sebastián are Monte Urgell, Monte Igueldo, and Monte Ulia.-The statue on Monte Urgull mendia is of Jesus.

Also, I feel like I sound like the literally dirty kid who does the announcements over the P.A. in “Wet Hot American Summer” on this one. Sorry for being nerdy. Enjoy.

Podcast number 2! Immense thanks to the very first podcast guest, Natalie Nichols, for joining me in the “studio” and talking about the experience of her brother moving to China and adopting aspects of the Chinese culture. We dig into this notion of living somewhere new and taking on native cultural practices. Will this happen to us in and after Spain? Don’t be surprised if we make a habit of breaking in the work day for a siesta.SUBSCRIBE IN iTUNES!

Her brother was not ‘swollen with blood, water or another fluid’ for speaking Chinese (well, I’m sure he has at least a few of those liquids in him but I certainly wouldn’t say he’s swollen to any degree. Then again I don’t know him that well). Thanks for listening.

The first podcast! Jealous? Don’t be, it’s mediocre at best, but there’s nowhere to go from here but up! And hey, I’m working with a single crappy microphone and electrical outlets that are in a shape I’ve never seen before and might send 220V surging through my body if I tinker with them too much. Spain tip #1: don’t tinker (too much).
Listen and enjoy! I’ll be bringing by guests and friends to chat so stay tuned for that as well as a proper page in iTunes for all your subscribing pleasure.
