23: Season Finale: #manifestinglikeamofo

Welcome to the final episode of our first season! This is a huge milestone for us and we are so happy to share it with all of you. We welcome our special guest for this episode, Robert Hartwell and Lux ATL. Going along with this epic theme, our finale topic is manifesting destiny.  Ariane likes to call it manifesting magic, but it simply means working hard to make what you want to happen happen. There are tons of ways you can do this, and we talk to each of our guests today about the different ways they’ve manifested what they wanted into their business model. There is a practical sense to it…a sort of energetic and spiritual sense to manifesting.Rachel @RachRodgersEsq#YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Now, you don’t have to start burning sage to manifest your life. You can be completely logical and pragmatic about this. Just recognize that everything you do has consequences, and when you work hard toward your goals, these consequences will often work out in your favor. Both of our guests created their own business models from scratch when they found a niche that was missing. They recognized that what they wanted to do didn’t necessarily exist, so they created it. The world of business is always evolving, and you can easily create a space for yourself when you evolve with it. The hardest work is getting your mind straight and getting clear about what you want. Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Evolving is not an easy process. Expectations have doubled since ten years ago and you need to be able to compete. This is where manifesting what you want comes into play, and everyone’s mechanics for manifestation are different. Whether you pursue an education or work to educate others, or whether you try out a new marketing campaign or join that elite mastermind group you’ve been eyeballing for awhile, each of these steps will still help you get closer to your goal. You’ll notice that, with each new door you open, new opportunities arrive. Things will start happening for you – job offers, speaking engagements, client referrals, or epic sales numbers, and it will feel like magic! But it will be because you worked damn hard to make it happen. This may be our last episode, but stay tuned for the NEW SEASON, starting in September! Have a great summer! 22: Cliches Are Awesome!

Why are we so cynical? Just because we say something over and over again doesn’t mean the saying has lost all meaning. Clichés are awesome because they are powerful. They are powerful enough to make us remember them, and sometimes they’re even powerful enough to inspire us. And that kind of power sticks around! What you focus on expands. Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Think about the “law of attraction”. Don’t cringe. Instead, consider what the cliché is actually saying. In the terms of your business, you need to attract the right kind of energy in order to keep things moving. You aren’t going to work hard for something if you don’t feel any positivity toward it. If you aren’t working for something that makes you happy, then what’s the point? You’re only going to attract positive things when you act positive and keep a positive attitude, and the best way to do that is to work toward and for something that makes you happy. The law of attraction isn’t just a cliché. It’s the truth, especially when you start seeing it happen in real life. A weird kind of magic happens when you’re working toward something you love, or working with someone or something that really inspires you. You’ll get a crystal clear vision about what you want, and you’ll be able to focus more sharply on the things that really matter to your bottom line. So instead of cringing at the cheesy clichés, start thinking about the things you can start attracting to your life and to your business. Ask someone to help you grow. Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This There’s a lot of negativity around these clichés, and we don’t know why. Most clichés are focused on self-improvement and self-growth, and who doesn’t want that? There’s no shame in seeking out self-growth, and there’s definitely no shame in asking others to help you grow. As the cliché goes – “giving is better than receiving,” and the same applies to your business. Start building a support system of friends, family, and like-minded entrepreneurs that share your same enthusiasm and spirit. This will give you a great board to bounce ideas off of, or even complain to, and you’ll even have a chance to offer up some advice of your own. Because if you want to expand your worth, you need to invest in your relationships. You never know what doors will open for you based on who you know, and you can never have too many people in your support system. Just remember that cheesiness does not necessarily mean ineffectiveness. These clichés may make you snort in derision, but in all honesty we believe that it’s going to inspire you to make things happen. And the belief that you can make things happen is what’s going to ultimately make things happen for you. Are you going to attract positive things into your life or negative? 21: Dare to Choose

The both of us were coming off of a mastermind high after helping one of our lady friends develop her business plan when we realized something – why don’t women do this more often? Helping one another out is the reason why most of us got into our businesses, right? Too often we keep seeing successful women belittle one another and excuse their success due to looks or dress size or other such silly shit, and we don’t see the point. That’s why, in this episode, we’re choosing to take a different approach to lady entrepreneurship. We’re just sick and tired of seeing successful women tearing down other successful women! Where is the sisterly love? It’s high time we all start choosing to lift each other up. Start celebrating the choices people make and the big steps they’re taking. When you do, you start having a conversation that’s going to generate brand new perspectives. We talk about all the opportunities this can create to gain new insights and maybe even drop a few nuggets of your own great advice, something you would have missed out on had you chosen to tear a sister down. Be your authentic self! Wave the fuck outta that freak flag! Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Working together makes everyone stronger. Support systems are key to anyone’s success, and there are a few ways you can choose to be available and offer up your skills, help crunch numbers, or even give a little critique to an entrepreneur in need. That’s why we joined a mastermind group! Because getting advice from women going through the same experiences as you is legitimate, you can trust them, and you know they aren’t going to judge you for the choices you make or the successes you earn. Choosing to support your ladies instead of tearing them down like this is going to build a sense of confidence in your lady group and in yourself. Confident women are a force to be reckoned with, and there needs to be more of us in this world. Don’t minimize someone’s expression.” Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This However you want to build each other up is entirely up to you. You define success on your own terms, and while that’s kind of scary, it’s also really empowering. Share that empowering feeling! You don’t need to tear anyone down to lift yourself up. We don’t need to talk shit about anyone. We just need to talk about how awesome we all are all the time. Start putting your energy into that kind of action, and see where it takes you! We get to decide what happens in our lives. 20: Make Space for Reflection

Today’s episode is amazing! Like the rest of our episodes, of course, but this one especially because we’re taking the time to talk about reflection. And not just the pretty face you see in the mirror every morning. No, we’re talking about reflecting on yourself, your processes, your accomplishments, and – in Rachel’s situation – the hot mess of her life she’s cleaning up right now. Reflection is an easy thing we always forget to do. We’re too action-oriented and future-oriented that we can sometimes forget to take a step back and really appreciate what’s going on in the moment or even what happened in the past week. Sometimes you can get too busy constantly doing doing doing that you can totally miss out on what you’ve accomplished thus far. There’s this idea that we have to do absolutely everything ourselves, and it’s simply not possible. Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Instead of focusing on all the things you have to do (or think you have to do), take this time now to reflect. Take a closer look at each of your actions and your experiences and make a mental note of where the accomplishments were and what may need a little tweaking. This will give you the opportunity to grow, both personally and in your business. If you’re having trouble finding or creating time to reflect, Ariane breaks down her Sunday Reflection Strategy in order to give you a little idea of how it works. Every Sunday, for an hour or so, Ariane looks back at what she’s accomplished this week and also takes time to look at the upcoming week. This gives her the chance to mentally prepare for upcoming projects and appointments, and it also gives her the time to move things around if the week ahead looks like it’s going to be a tough one. Running a company? 50% of your time needs to be unscheduled. Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This On this episode we break down tons of different ways you can reflect, because not everyone is going to reflect in the same way. Reflection can be personal but it can also work in a group. Masterminds, mentors, partners, friends, and family are all a source of reflection. You may have more success bouncing ideas off of people rather than meditating on your schedule. So take this time to reflect on those people in your inner circle that can help you find what you’re missing or give you the encouragement to keep going. And don’t underestimate the cheer a group can bring when you start celebrating your accomplishments! Our different processes for reflection aren’t going to make or break our business models or our lives. Reflection – no matter how you do it – always has the same results: it proves you are living your dreams and accomplishing all the things you set out to accomplish. So how do you reflect? Tune in now and leave us a review on iTunes tells us about your reflection process and how it works for you! You’re so busy doing it that you’re not even seeing it. 19: Say Yes: Put Yourself in the Right Place

Do you talk to people when you get on a plane? Personally, we are notorious for putting up our walls (and our headphones) and totally ignoring everyone. But you ever start thinking about what you’re missing out on? Tune in now and listen to the story of how Rachel got herself to Austin, TX for the Wayfarer’s Gathering, upgraded to first class, met a celebrity, and basically inspired herself to embody the bad ass bitch she’s been working on becoming. Operate on the first class level! Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This We hope this story inspires you to start saying yes more and more. So many doors open when you start to say yes, especially when you say yes to yourself. The serendipitous chain of magical events on Rachel’s trip would never have come together if she hadn’t started saying yes to the little things that really matter. Leave behind your lame excuses and start investing in yourself and the things you truly want to do. The little things that we talk about in today’s episode require some work. Upgrading your life requires effort, and saying yes to yourself means investing time, energy, and resources into what will get you on that upper level. You have to put in work in order to take the good out, but we’ll let you in on a little secret – it will stop feeling like work when you feel good, happy, fulfilled every day of your life! You already know you’re a bad ass bitch, and now you need to start creating a space in your life that matches that amazing and powerful image. Saying ‘yes’ is actually work. Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This While you’re working on saying “yes”, we want to remind you that it’s still okay to say “no” every once and awhile. Saying no now means you’re making room for the yes you’re going to say tomorrow, and it will make that real yes more possible and more successful. You can’t transform everything, and every time you try to force something instead of just saying no takes away from the time you should be spending on the fabulous work you want to be doing, the kind of work that inspires you and those around you. You can tell in this episode that Maui changed us. We’ve come back on a whole new fucking level, and we can’t come down. To be honest, we don’t really want to! We want to say yes to this amazing feeling! Because saying yes to the things that really inspire you, the things you really want to do, are going to make you a better person and bring you up to that level that aligns you with your true self. Say yes in small ways every day! 18: Influence

Who (or what) are your biggest influences? Of course you can rattle off family members, amazing business leaders, and powerful lady CEOs, but have you ever stopped to consider the influences you might be unconscious of? So many of us do this in our business without even knowing it. We find people we admire and start emulating them, copycatting their techniques, and using some of their strategies to develop our own business models. There’s nothing wrong with this, but we think it’s playing the game just a little too safe. You’re never going to grow if you don’t put your own spin on it. And, believe us, your own creative thinking is worth the risk. Copycatting is just a way to stay safe. Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This We want to be influenced by people with creative power, and we want to influence you to use your own creative power! There is no magic pill in this game that’s going to let you win everything. But you do have the magic power to create and to put in the real work it takes to make something happen. This is why good influencers are so important. You want to seek influence from someone (or something) who is going to inspire you to take that leap! Someone with an amazing idea is going to help you create your own amazing concepts. Take what they give you, learn from their experiences and their perspectives, but don’t forget to put your own spin on it. Remember, this is your life, this is your business, and at the end of the day, it’s going to be your amazing creative self who brings all of these different influences together. Don’t cheat yourself. Go for it! Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Remember, a healthy plate of food has all kinds of colors in it. And this applies to your life too! The food of your mind, the food of your heart – shit, even the food of your business needs to be full of all kinds of color. Being deliberate about who you let color your life is tricky, but one of our tricks is seeking influence from all kinds of different places. Limiting yourself to one genre or type of learning is only going to limit your type of thinking. But looking into all sorts of fields is going to help you discern between what influences serve you best and what really isn’t cutting it. Breaking down your influencers and making the time to influence yourself is our main topic today, but it’s something we seriously work at every day. Being able to inspire yourself and those around you is a truly invigorating experience, and we can’t wait to share it with you. And yes, we know we’re doing a podcast where we want you to do everything we say, but that’s what we call a good influence! Consume things from all different sorts of places. Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Today’s Topics Include: Being careful of who we let influence us Letting go of other’s habits so you can focus on developing your own How to develop a #permeablebarrier to sift through all your different influences Our quirky astrological experience with Debra Silverman in Maui Blocking out a sacred space and time to influence yourself Branching out and finding influencers in overlooked places Links & Resources: Sean d’Souza Copyblogger Ian Blei, Optimized Results [although we call it the Enneagram Institute] Susan Hyatt, the Queen of our Mastermind Group Debra Silverman Astrology <– I know, right? 17: The Maui Episode

Welcome to our OFFICIAL Maui Episode! Seriously, you guys, WOW! We both decided to come to our mastermind retreat a few days early to bask in the beauty of our amazing resort, and it’s truthfully been the most inspiring part of our trip. There’s something very important about taking time for yourself. It’s the time you need to reflect on your thoughts and pinpoint what’s motivating you at this point in your life and in your business. Don’t forget – introspection is extremely valuable to your success. We’re probably all a little guilty of not giving ourselves enough time in the day to indulge in this luxury, and by then it will take a friggin entrepreneurial vacation to remind you how beneficial it can really be. When you travel, you are forced to hang out with yourself, and your internal monologue is going to go into overdrive with thoughts, ideas, creativity bursting at the seams! This type of time to yourself can be super emotional, but it’s also a great space for developing new ideas, strategies, and brand new perspectives. I’m not sure it’s luck. We chose this! Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This What we learned on this retreat comes from both our amazing mastermind group and the time we took specifically for ourselves. Without our families or even work on our minds, we were able to completely Zen out and focus on creating some great vibes for ourselves and the women at the retreat with us. Talking with other women who will see you differently than you see yourself brings about a whole new perspective, and the positive changes this can make for your business are surreal. Rachel breaks down her favorite parts of this retreat in this episode, and we discuss the benefits you get from having people you’ve never met reflect your talents and your skills right back to you. Too many times as women entrepreneurs do we cut ourselves down. Just like we discussed in our last episode about lame ass excuses, women don’t always take the time to build ourselves up. We are notorious for making up reasons not to do something, and we forget to acknowledge or even celebrate our successes. It’s like we keep lowering the bar because we’re afraid of success, or we’re afraid of the unknown. But if you’re willing to take that risk, then you better be the first person to congratulate yourself on your bravery. Taking the time to reflect on your goals and the risks you’ve been brave enough to take will give you a new appreciation for yourself and your business. Don’t stop yourself because you’re unsure. Let that uncertainty inspire you and motivate you to transform that unknown into a known. Don’t work against yourself and don’t hold yourself back. It’s time to take a new approach, one where you start to recognize that you are worth more than six figures. Be brave enough to aim for 7! Your limiting beliefs are costing you $$! Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Today’s Topics Include: Our experiences together at our retreat in Maui! 16: One Thousand Lame Excuses

We’re all guilty of it. Making excuses are a part of our daily lives, and we’ll make excuses about everything. Hair color, alarm clocks, our kids, our sleep schedule, sometimes we even make excuses without even thinking about why or how we’re making that excuse. But it doesn’t have to be that way all the time. That’s why we put together this week’s episode. We’re here to stop you from making one more lame ass excuse! What is making excuses costing you? Rachel@RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Ariane shares her story that inspired this particular episode. We break it down and examine all the nuances that influence why and how we make excuses. The pressure, the price point, the time management – all of these things lead us to create excuses out of thin air, but each and every one of those is manageable (and therefore can’t really be an excuse!). Once you recognize how to manage these speed bumps, you can start looking at what really inspired all those excuses in the first place. And once you’re able to do that, you’ll definitely be able to stop using them as a crutch. All that those lame excuses do is hold you back. With each excuse you make you miss out on opportunities and connections. An excuse stops you from being your true self and makes it even harder to find success. Your excuses can insult or offend others. Consider how your excuses look to the friends and family who look up to you for inspiration. If you’re too busy making excuses, when are you going to have time to inspire, to create, or even thrive? Don’t get your excuses on me. Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This When you start analyzing why you make these excuses and how much they are costing you on a personal and a fiscal level, you’ll think twice the next time you try and make one. This episode is chock full of great tips for recognizing an excuse before it happens and pinpointing why you’re making that excuse in the first place. You know that the both of us are all about applauding people for the work they’re doing, but we can’t (and we won’t) applaud your excuses. Today’s Topics Include Never giving your power away to someone else, EVER! Learning the difference between “fuck yeah!” and “fuck no!” Recognizing the signs of an unsuccessful business relationship How to stop creating and explaining your excuses Being conscious of when and why you are making a bullshit excuse Finding out what your excuses are costing you and how to reverse that Anyone successful will wind up with haters. 15: Self-Doubt Is Costing You $$$

We all want to be successful, but success is scary. It’s risky. It means putting ourselves out there and making ourselves vulnerable. And sometimes vulnerability leads us down that terrible path known as Self Doubt. And we all know what self-doubt sounds like. It’s that little voice in the back of your head that’s always talking shit. It’s talking you out of great ideas, it’s talking you out of your passion, and most of all it’s trying to talk you out of your self-confidence. On today’s episode we discuss how and why your self-doubt is tricking you out of your confidence and your money. Tara Mohr, author of Playing Big, has a super inspiring article on Oprah.com talking about the tips and tricks we can all use to stop following the bad directions from that doubtful voice in our heads. We’re always going to be afraid to put ourselves and our products on the line, but we can’t let that fear stop us from attaining our goals. You didn’t start your own business because it was easy, and you definitely don’t want it to be easy. It’s the challenge that inspires us, and having the confidence to rise to that challenge is the prize you earn for overcoming your fear. Don’t start throwing hand grenades into your own business! – Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Over-complicating is the one thing self-doubt will always manage to do to your business. You may start doubting your ability to earn enough with one product, so you start selling three. You may doubt your time management skills, so you hire a small staff. But now you’ve just complicated the easy process of making, launching, and selling your one amazing product by adding more costs and deadlines. Keeping things simple is your best bet at quieting self-doubt, and it’s the only way you’re going to meet your goals and stay enthusiastic about your product. Don’t let doubt turn you against the very thing that inspired you to take the entrepreneurial leap in the first place. As women, we are especially prone to self-doubt, and it’s our businesses that suffer the most from it. Self-doubt is reflected in our marketing, in our networking, and in our pricing. Our prices directly reflect the amount of confidence we have in our product, and the lower you list your price, the less self-confidence you are projecting to your clientele. And who wants to buy a product from someone who has absolutely no confidence in it? It’s counter-productive to listen to your self-doubt, and it’s detrimental to the life of your business since it literally tricks you into undercutting your self-worth. Self-doubt is the total opposite of enthusiasm. – Ariane @doyourthing_biz #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This It’s so important for you – and for all of us running our own businesses – to not act on our self-doubt. There’s no way to get rid of it, unfortunately, because it’s there to keep us balanced. But you don’t always have to listen to it. Start celebrating your successes and recognizing your ability to achieve your goals so that the next time self-doubt starts sneaking in you can shut it down immediately! Today’s Topics Include: Chasing down the reasons we’re afraid of success How to overcome your self-doubt so you can stop the fear Learning how to ride the entrepreneurial roller coaster How your self-confidence influences your pricing and your money Maintaining a simple business model to maintain your sanity Staying open to every obstacle that comes your way Getting on the mastery level so you can start shaping your world A complex business model usually does not work for a small business.” – Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Links & Resources: And keep up with Ariane’s Facebook Live for tips on understanding the Mental Game of Pricing Learn more about the Amazing Canadian Cameron Herold Simon Sinek’s Blog for more on selling what you believe Tim Ferriss’ Blog for more on riding the entrepreneurial roller coaster Dan Martell’s Blog for more on how to transfer your enthusiasm Ryan Holiday’s inspiring book The Obstacle is the Way And catch up with the mastery on AMC’s The Walking Dead Please leave us an amazing review on iTunes!  Thanks for listening!     The post 15: Self-Doubt Is Costing You $$$ appeared first on Your Business Is Your Life.

14: Feel your Feelings

We are here to tell you that today is the day you will stop talking yourself out of things. It’s high time you followed that yellow brick road! Is there a class, an event, or a project you’re really curious about but don’t think you can start? Maybe it’s too time-consuming. Maybe it has nothing to do with your business at hand. But you’re really excited about it, right? You really want to start it? Well, today is the day! Stop making excuses! Just because you think it doesn’t have anything to do with your business doesn’t mean it can’t benefit your business or your life. Once you start walking that yellow brick road, you’ll start recognizing how all of your seemingly unrelated hobbies and work projects are actually all interconnected. And what connects them is your passion and your level of obsession. The excitement you harbor for your business can and will extend into your everyday life. And by pursuing the things – the activities, the classes, the seminars – that you are truly interested in, you’ll find a newfound passion for your goals and your business. Feelings are directly related to how much money you make. – Rachel @RachRodgersEsq #YBIYLPowered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This Following your feelings will lead you to the places you need to be, but it’s not the easiest thing. It’s actually kind of terrifying. You can’t anticipate what’s going to happen. But taking risks is all about not knowing, and you can’t seek success if you aren’t willing to take the risk. Your only option, then, is to roll with it. Follow your passion, follow your instincts, and see where they take you. When you go with the flow, your feelings and your natural inclination to learn will inspire you to take on new challenges, learn new things, and bring about amazing changes in your life and your business. We both navigate our businesses with our feelings, and we’ve both taken risks bringing our enthusiasm and our authentic selves to our brands. Enthusiasm is our strongest motivator, and we love to see how other bad ass entrepreneurs bring their passion to the table. 13: The Bad Mommy Episode

It’s 2016! Why are we – as women – expected to be great mothers and only great mothers? Don’t get us wrong, we love being mothers. We love our kids, we’re proud of our families, and spending time together is one of the most priceless moments you can get out of this life, but we are SO MUCH MORE than parents. You can’t be expected to only be a mother when you have aspirations and plans for other big things in your life. It’s okay to dislike your kids a few times a day, especially when you’re trying to get work done. And these “bad mommy moments” are not definitive of you as a whole – you’re just being honest about how you feel! Being frustrated and impatient is a normal, natural reaction sometimes, and being able to recognize these bad mommy moments in yourself and admit to them is a healthy way to get back on track. I feel like I live in ground zero for the mommy cult. – Ariane Powered By the Tweet This PluginTweet This As women, we are enculturated to seek approval. We go through school and work seeking approval from bosses, professors, coaches, friends, boys, etc, but being trained to please like this does nothing to teach you how to be a strong woman or a strong parent. And that can make moments with your kids very, very difficult sometimes. Uncovering how to be a mom and finding the parenting strategies that work for you and your family is a learning experience that many of us aren’t prepared for. Our advice on this episode is to focus on yourself and what works for you. That same passion you apply to your business and your hobbies is the same passion you should be applying to parenting. Whatever excites you in life should excite you to be a parent, and finding a healthy balance between the two will definitely benefit yourself, your kids, and your entire family. We know it’s hard to get stuff done when you have two or more tiny, miniature yous breathing down your neck asking for snuggles, toys, and food, but there is a way to manage it. Finding five minutes peace is possible, and finding ways to be the best possible mommy entrepreneur you can be is not as hard as it sounds. It just comes down to managing your time and knowing what works for you. Your kids need you to be functional, and if taking a nap at 4 in the afternoon is what makes you the best mom ever, then tune in now! Our advice will help you rest and recharge so that you can balance your family with your business and your life. 12: Numbers are Everything

Tune in now, because this is going to be good. You’ve never heard people talk about numbers the way we’re talking about them today. If you caught Rachel’s Facebook Live event, then you know where this is going. What inspired her to start keeping a food journal is the same thing that inspired this episode of Your Business is Your Life.  Because your numbers are your business, and the numbers of your life are going to help you add up your success. Go ahead and take a look at your numbers. No, not just your business numbers! But all of the numbers. What are you eating? How many dogs did you see today? How much of each product are you selling every month? How many new clients did you meet this week? Looking at your numbers like this is more than just assessing your cost to profit ratio. It’s about seeing where things add up, where they don’t, and where you can start making the big, strategic changes you need to be successful. “If you are tracking data on anything that you want to improve in your life, that data will be illuminating. Those numbers will tell you where you’re getting the big wins and what you can change.” Rachel You can accomplish so much when you know your numbers, and on today’s episode we call this “mental fitness”. Staying fit like this means working out the numbers of your life in order to empower you to start planning and doing all of the things you may have been unsure of before. You can’t make up any more excuses when you know where the numbers lie, and you are going to see your options expand once you understand what these numbers are telling you. But we know that understanding these numbers isn’t everyone’s forte. There’s no shame in not liking math. But what we talk about today will build your confidence in the numbers department so you can better understand what your next action plan should be. As a business owner, you know can’t hide from your financial obligations. They’ll follow you around until you can’t ignore them anymore, and usually by then it’s too late. “When you know your numbers, then you can make an action plan, and there’s nothing that’s going to make you feel better than having an action plan.” Ariane Don’t be afraid of the numbers of your life. Knowing your numbers is going to help you transcend, whether it’s your diet, your shopping list, or jumping from self-employment to the CEO of your own business. Numbers are everything, and when you know how to make all those numbers grow, you’re going to see sweeping changes transform your outlook, your business, and your life.   Today’s Topics Include: What do we mean when we say “numbers”? (because it’s not just finances!) How the numbers in your life mean big data for your success Using your numbers to take control of your business Watching your numbers so you can make smart, strategic changes Overcoming your fear of math so you can overcome the biggest hurdles in your life How to invite a financial advisor into your business to give you the best help with your numbers Links & Resources: Remember #werkbetch – the hashtag of the hour – and tag us in your own numbers game on Facebook or on Twitter, or contact us online at www.yourbusinessisyourlife.com   A link to a few of our favorites’ websites we discussed in this episode: Dan Martell & Danielle LaPorte, and don’t forget to check out Greg Crabtree’s Simple Numbers, Straight Talk, Big Profits! 11: #simplifythatshit

What are human beings good at? Overcomplicating things! We will overcomplicate any little thing we can until the point where it drives us absolutely batshit crazy. And it’s all our own fault because we are the ones creating the complications in the first place. Complication comes from telling yourself you can’t do something, or you won’t do something. You’re either denying yourself the things you want or you’re actively forcing yourself to do something you don’t even want to do. And what’s the point? If you aren’t excited about it, then why are you doing it? It’s only going to complicate things! If you want to simplify your life and avoid complication, you can’t be afraid of change. Because in order to stop complicating things, you have to be willing and able to change them. Maybe you need to change your mind about a new marketing plan, maybe you need to change your team by hiring (or firing!) someone, or maybe you just need a change of pace. Whatever it is, facing that big change head on may be exactly what you need to simplify your life.   “It’s definitely a process…. I’m finding that as I transition from one kind of business to another, there’s definitely some transitional pain.” Ariane Simplifying your life – as a process – is not going to be easy, but it is going to make your life easier in the long run. Start by focusing on solutions that will only make your life simpler, and we have a few pointers for working toward that solution on today’s episode. You know that feeling that you get in your stomach when everything is falling into place and you’re just feeling it? That’s a great indicator of when things are simply working. Learning to listen to your instincts like this and trusting what you want is going to give you the confidence you need to successfully run your business and experience your life. There won’t be any more excuses or lukewarm dedication to projects you don’t even care about. Instead, you’ll find yourself saying “F@#! YES!” to the things that really matter. “These days, these hours, this weekend – that’s my life! And I get to choose whether I’m going to do something I don’t really feel like doing. Or I’m going to do something that brings me joy and gives me great memories.” Rachel Don’t let your fear of change complicate your life any more. Avoiding conflict, feeling obligated, and worrying over imagined problems are the only things complicating your life. Keep it simple by being clear about what you want. Prioritize based on how you feel about an event or a client rather than on whether or not you feel obligated to be there. At the end of the day, the only person you have to answer to is yourself. So go forth and simply, and you’ll save yourself the headache. Today’s Topics Include Using the simplest solutions so you can stop overcomplicating every little thing Listening to your essential self and the voice of what you really want Following your instincts when it comes to big decisions Why wait to fire the people and the clients that suck? 10: #Squad Goals, Building Your Squad

We’ve been obsessed with #squad lately, and today’s episode is all about upping your squad goals for 2016. Ariane starts off with a heartbreaking story so you can understand why squads are extremely important to your emotional and physical health as well as the health of your business. Because balancing all three is extremely difficult, and even harder if you don’t have the right support system to keep you grounded when shit hits the fan. The problem is you can never know when it will hit the fan, or hit rock bottom. But you can prepare yourself for the inevitable by surrounding yourself with the right squad. Your squads are not just the hashtag of the moment. These are the people that hold the pieces of your life together so that you can become the best person you can possibly be. You aren’t going to be the bad ass boss of your business or your life if you don’t know how to cultivate the right relationships you need to get you on that level. “When you see how people show up, it’s super powerful. It’s been a lesson to me in the past three weeks just how important it is to develop these squads. Not just for your own self, but for the people you love.” Ariane Today we focus on the two squads you are going to need to be successful. We break down what it means to have a Love Squad and a Pro Squad in order to balance every aspect of your life. Friends, family, fun, and business are all part of these squads, and being able to recognize your squad and the role they play in your life is really going to inspire you to be the best possible boss you can. Remember last time when we talked about being the CEO of every part of your life? Building your squad is exactly how you do that! You’re already working on being a boss, right? You’re running your own business, you’re doing the dance, trying to balance that life/work thing, and sometimes you can just love your job too much that you start missing out on the other things you love to do. We’re all guilty of that, of working too much or too hard, and that’s exactly why having a squad and making those squad goals for this year can help you get that dance right. The Pro Squad you have will keep you focused on your business, while your Love Squad will keep you focused on the other parts of your life that make living so worthwhile. “Sometimes I want to work more, like I’m so excited about a particular business idea!…But I have to remind myself that you cannot just work non-stop just because you would like to. You don’t have that option.” Rachel Balance should be key for your squad goals of 2016. Because balancing your business and your life is what we’re trying to do here, and it’s definitely not easy. That’s when your squad comes to the rescue! So recognize your squad, respect your squad, and remember that you are also the member of someone else’s squad. It’s more than just a hashtag this year – #squad is going to be your best bet for success! Today’s Topics Include: The 2 specific squads needed for entrepreneurs Defining your #squadgoals and building the Pro Squad you need for success Understanding your personal role in your own and your friends’ Love Squad Getting rid of the people that bring out the worst in you How to make time for your family and NOT make excuses for your hustle Thinking the right way for yourself, your business, and your squad Using your Pro Squad to become a complete boss at delegating every inch of your business We really hope you’ve enjoyed this episode. 09: Do for You

On today’s show we’re all about trying to fill that chill side of the equation. Mind you, that’s the equation to your life, and balancing that equation is harder than it looks. Finding time for yourself between work, family, and friends can end up being the hardest thing you’ve ever done – if you don’t know how to do it right! Some of us focus all of our free time on work. But building connections and honing skills isn’t really a hobby, it’s just more work. And don’t even say exercise is a hobby because exercise isn’t really fun either, it’s simply a means to an end. What we’re talking about today is fun – actual fun – something you should be incorporating into your weekly (if not daily) routine. Finding something fun is the easy part. When you follow your curiosity, you’ll end up finding exactly what you need to fill up your free time. Learning French, practicing your water colors, even learning how to DJ could all be something you’ve been wanting to do since grade school. Now, finally, you have the time to test it out. Trying out something new like this will not only fill your free time but it’s also going to help you grow as a person (and even an entrepreneur!). “When you get out and do other things, you have stories to tell, you have content to write about for your business, you have ideas that just come to you that wouldn’t have otherwise.” Rachel So how do you find the hobby that helps you grow? The trick is to think of yourself as a project. Seizing your free time now and using it as a chance to explore yourself, your culture, or any hidden skills or talents you may or may not have might have is a great place to start. Ask yourself, “How can I make this more awesome?” and follow wherever that answer takes you. New hobbies will open up an entire new arena for you, and you’ll have access to more connections, more relationships, and more spontaneity – and, really, who doesn’t love being surprised? But be warned – every surprise is a risk! What makes this task so difficult is you may soon discover how much work something fun can end up being. That’s where the balancing act comes into play. When you start asking yourself “why did I choose this?” it’s about time you learned when to walk out on your hobby and where to start looking for a new one. Rachel has her own inside story on this very thing – a hobby that led to a complete and utter meltdown, proving that hobbies can end up being the hardest thing you never meant to do. “This is your free time. If this is your hobby, [if] this is the thing that you’re doing for yourself for fun, then it should be fun.” Ariane Balancing your idea a fun with your free time and your availability to learn new things is all part of what it takes to do things for yourself. Not for your business, not for your family, but for yourself. Your business is your life, and you should spend your life balanced across work and play with a little dash of exploration and spontaneity to keep things interesting. Tune in now to find out how we play this balancing act, and let us know if our little tips help you out in any way! Today’s Topics Include: The 5 things it takes to balance your hustle with your chill How important hobbies are to your life AND your success What #velvetrope and hip hop classes could do to your life Working with your super competitive side Listening to yourself and learning from your meltdowns (even the messy ones) Playing up your creative side to become a better you We really hope you’ve enjoyed this episode. 08: So Stop Being Nice!

So, don’t take this personally, but we’re over being nice. Seriously, we’re over it. No more Miss Nice Girl, no more hiding, no more worrying about other people’s feelings – it’s not worth it! When it comes to running your business and building a brand, you don’t have time to worry about making nice with everyone. What you do need to focus on is standing up for yourself and building a trustworthy brand your clients can be excited about. Finding the time to NOT make nice means giving yourself more time to think about what you want, what you need to succeed, and how you can make it happen! It’s not that we’re mean girls. In fact, on today’s episode we discuss the difference between kindness and making nice. Kindness is that genuine emotion you feel, that tug to help someone and spread the love. But being nice is something completely different. Being nice is a smokescreen that hides our true intentions. It can distract from our goals and our work at hand, and when we worry about how nice we’re being to everyone, we stop focusing on ourselves (and you’re the most important part of your business, remember?) “I think we all struggle with this to some degree. It just really becomes a straightjacket where you forgot how to express your own self, you forget what you really want, because you’re so caught up in this habit of just making nice all the time.” Ariane How do you break the habit of being nice? The enculturation of being nice, especially for women, teaches us that we have to be nice in order to get along with everyone. We can’t succeed too much because that isn’t nice, but we can’t fail because that isn’t nice either. But you know that’s all bullshit, right? Rachel’s own experience with a few problem clients proves this. She talks today about how standing up for herself and her business was not only an empowering experience, but one that has completely changed her outlook for the new year. “I stand by my way of doing business. And when you know you’re standing in integrity, threats are meaningless…I don’t know if you’re going to make good on [that threat], and I don’t have control over whether you’re going to make good on that. What I do have control over is what I want to say or not say right now.” Rachel Taking control is impossible when you’re worried about being nice. You can’t take on your business – or the world for that matter – if you’re too worried about whether or not your actions will be considered “nice”. So stop being nice! Be vocal! Stand up for yourself! Stop giving a shit about the meaningless things and dedicate your time and energy on the pieces of your life that truly matter. You’ll find that your friendships are more sincere, your clients are more excited, and you are a happier person because you stopped all that petty worrying about being the nicest girl in the room. Today’s Topics Include Don’t be afraid to not be nice, especially when you’re defending yourself Rachel’s personal experience with problem clients and handling them appropriately Setting boundaries for when/where/how/if you will “make nice” The difference between kindness and making nice and how to walk that line Stripping away that filter we unconsciously put on ourselves Finding the confidence to be yourself, which is the best version of you to be right now We really hope you’ve enjoyed this episode. 07: Word for the Year

Last episode we talked about planning (and how much we love it), and we discussed what it’s like to create a theme for your year to help you set your plans into motion. Today we’re going to help you choose a word for the year. Choosing a word always helps us organize our goals, and it totally motivates us to kick ass and stay on track the whole year through. If you find yourself losing sight of your goals after a few months, having a word that speaks to your theme can help you re-arrange and get back on your path. Ever thought about creating a hashtag? Because that’s exactly what we do for our words. We are unapologetic in our gratuitous use of hashtags, and we think you should be too. It could seem kind of silly, but give it a try and see how well it helps you plan, stay organized, and meet every goal you’ve set for 2016. “The feeling of pull and intuition is exactly how I wound up with my word for the year.” Rachel Following your intuition is key to your success, and it’s also going to be the motivation behind your plans and goals. Whenever you start doubting yourself or questioning your motives, take a step back and let your intuition do the talking. We know all too well that big plans like these can feel intimidating, even scary, but what’s the point of your business if you aren’t willing to take any risks? “The right thing for me always has the little element of ‘oh shit!’ in it. If I’m not a little bit scared, then it’s really not right. It’s too safe, I’m not taking any risks, I’m not putting myself out enough, and it’s not the right thing.” Ariane Today we’re talking about that good kind of scared, the kind you get riding a roller coaster. Because even if you’re scared, you’re going to do it anyway. You’re not trying to do the safe thing, the easy thing, you’re taking the risk and getting the most out of that vulnerable feeling. That nervous excitement can really motivate you to pursue those goals you might have been too afraid to go after a couple months ago. And that’s what we want your word for the year to encapsulate: the nervous excitement that pushes you to seize your goals. Today’s Topics Include #Eleven, #VelvetRope, #AMilli, #Freedom and what they mean for our big year Our word-choosing process that helps us evolve our plans Why it’s okay to change your word at any time during the year Embracing that ‘oh shit!’ moment in your planning Following your intuition without being afraid to change things up a bit The strength of your curiosity and why it’s such a great force We really hope you’ve enjoyed this episode. 06: Plan for Success

2016 is a big ass year. Are you prepared for it? Today we’re talking about planning to make sure you are prepared in the best way possible. If you didn’t already know, we are super nerds about planning, and we are very excited about today’s episode. Planning is exhilarating, thrilling, and, most importantly, it’s motivating! It’s the best – and our most favorite – process to help you put your big dreams into motion. “I think planning is a great way to actually make the things that you want to happen actually happen. And don’t just write them down on a piece of paper.” Ariane Now, we’re not just talking about bookkeeping or financial planning, because your life is so much more than that. Setting a plan means taking hold of the reins of your life, becoming the captain, and navigating your way toward your goals. Do you know what your goals are for this year? Do you have a game plan in mind? Or do you find the whole process a bit overwhelming? If you worry that your goals are too big or too unattainable, stop that kind of thinking right now. Anything you want you can achieve if you are willing to design the plan and put forth the work that sets it into motion. If you have a passion, you must be willing to suffer for it, and that’s exactly what we’re talking about today. Today’s Topics Include: How to have fun planning your year (seriously) Being an awesome active agent of your own life A few examples of our own big plans for 2016 A discussion of Todd Henry’s amazing book Die Empty and how it’s helped us plan The relationship between pain and passion and what that means for your big plans Making room for “unscheduled time” so you have time to think We are really looking forward to sharing our excitement about planning with all of you. We’ll teach you how to break down the planning process so you can visualize your goals. When you can clearly see each step like that, you ultimately have more of a connection your process, to your plan, and to your goals, and you’re more likely to achieve them. “I think that’s the key to success is knowing your connection of what you’re doing to the big goal and seeing progress. Otherwise, if you start to feel hopeless, there goes your plan.” Rachel We really hope you’ve enjoyed this episode. 05: Living Intentionally

Our focus today is on setting intentions for your life. Everything you do should start and end with your intention. You need to set an intention for how you want to feel, what you want your life to look like and what you want to accomplish so that you feel good; then do whatever the hell you need to do to make it happen. It’s really about taking the time to think through your purpose in the activities you take part in on a daily basis. “When you just kind of venture forth and pursue the thing that you’re actually interested in and passionate about without a business outcome in mind for you, remarkable things happen.” Ariane We would also like to take this golden opportunity to explain the name of our podcast: “Your Business is Your Life.” Now before you get riled up and think we’re saying your business should be your entire life, let us help you look at from our perspective: It’s about creating a situation that feels good to you. The point is that your job here on Earth is to live and make your life; your life is your business. You’re the best person to be the boss of you, and that’s your job… And that’s the idea behind Your Business is Your Life. Today’s topics include: The difference between letting life happen to you and setting your intentions How to be your big, badass self all the time Being your true self and unlearning to dial it down Dealing with decision fatigue and “awesome overload” How to escape feeling like you’re in a contracted state How pricing can lead to equal intentions and expectations The most gratifying thing in the world is feeling like you’re in charge of your destiny; not like you’re just floating around waiting for fate.  You are in charge of your journey; you are the Michelangelo of your life. What are you learning and how are you investing your time? It’s crucial to make the best of every possible situation and opportunity, so that you don’t just keep putting off your own fulfillment and joy for some distant future. Ariane explains what it’s like to do that for a good long time, and what she did to bounce back from that place. We talk about so many important things today, and we’re not done yet. We walk through saying no when it doesn’t feel like a ‘hell yeah’, the importance of being grateful of your current reality and the power of being yourself in business and everywhere else. Here are a couple of our final thoughts about it: “The profitability of your business is directly connected to how much you’re sharing your true self with the people you’re selling to, and it’s also directly connected to your own happiness.
