I Had the Apple Mold. I Don't Eat Apples.

Everybody in Florida knows about black mold in the walls. Almost nobody knows about the mold already in the pantry. Mycotoxins are the chemical mold gives off, not the fuzzy part you can see and scrape away. Think of a can of hairspray: the mold is the can, and the mist coming out is the mycotoxin. That's the part that makes you sick, and it's in more of your kitchen than you'd guess. Coffee. Peanuts and nut milks. Corn, wheat, and oats. Raisins and dried fruit. Wine, dairy, apple juice, and the spices that have been in your cupboard since 2022. Food mold also rarely looks like what you'd expect. Instead of the respiratory symptoms people associate with a moldy house, it tends to show up as fatigue, brain fog, restless sleep, and numbness or tingling, which is exactly why it gets missed. In this episode: • Why "just scrape it off" doesn't work • How coffee production changed, and what that did to the beans • Peanut butter, almond milk, and the grind-your-own bins at the health food store • Corn that sat in a silo for six years before it became your chips • Gayle on the dairy industry, from inside a dairy family • The urine test that shows which molds are in you and where they came from • What a detox lifestyle looks like when you're not willing to be neurotic about it Plus the result nobody expected: apple mold, in someone who doesn't eat apples. Ten Times Normal: What Glyphosate Did to My Gut

ami's urine test came back at ten times the top of normal for glyphosate. She's never farmed, and she doesn't spray her yard. That result is where this episode starts. Glyphosate is the most-used weed killer in the world, and most exposure doesn't come from where you'd guess. It comes from pre-harvest spraying , fields of wheat, oats, corn and soybeans sprayed shortly before they're cut. The World Health Organization's cancer agency classifies it as a probable carcinogen. The EPA says it's safe, working largely from studies funded by the companies that make it. Tami and Gayle Guyardo work through what that means at the kitchen table instead of the podium. What glyphosate does to gut bacteria, and why a chemical that "doesn't affect human cells" can still affect you. The gut trouble Tami spent months blaming on antibiotics after a surgery, and what changed two weeks after she detoxed. Why some people who believe they're gluten sensitive may be reacting to what was sprayed on the wheat rather than the wheat itself. And the part nobody enjoys hearing, it's in groundwater, and it doesn't break down. Then the practical half. How to test yourself, and how simple that test actually is. The one produce rule worth following when organic isn't in the budget. What your lawn service is spraying on your fence line. Why Gayle moved most of her vegetables to frozen, and what she started asking about the companies that make her food. Gayle's father was a dairy farmer who had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Both of her parents died of cancer, and a genetic panel showed no family history of it. She has her own reasons for asking these questions. Neither of them is telling you to panic. They're telling you what they tested, what they changed, and what it cost. Book a consultation at tampabaytotalwellness.com, or nationwide telehealth at tbtotal.health. The Secret Sauce to Weight Loss: Why GLP-1s Work Better When Your Hormones Work Too

What if your GLP-1 isn’t the problem? You’re taking the medication. You’re eating less. You’re exercising. But while everyone around you seems to be dropping 20 pounds, your scale barely moves. What’s missing? In this episode, Dr. Tami and Gayle Guyardo get personal about Gayle’s own weight-loss journey—from struggling to lose weight despite GLP-1 therapy and consistent exercise to discovering that her thyroid, hormones, metabolism, nutrition, and medication strategy all needed to work together. They break down why GLP-1 medications can be powerful tools but aren’t always the complete answer, especially for women navigating hormonal changes and midlife metabolism. They also discuss protecting muscle while losing weight, getting enough protein, strength training, maintenance dosing, food noise, and why simply escalating a medication until you have no appetite may not be the goal. You’ll also hear why Tami prefers making one change at a time, how she approaches patients who stall on GLP-1 therapy, and why individualized lab testing and ongoing medical follow-up can matter when the scale refuses to budge. Plus, an important conversation about sourcing GLP-1s, peptides, and supplements safely—and why buying an injectable or supplement because someone on TikTok recommended it can carry real risks. In this episode: Why some people respond dramatically to GLP-1s while others barely lose Hormones, thyroid function, and metabolism GLP-1s as one part of a larger strategy Food noise vs. eliminating your appetite Protecting muscle during weight loss Protein, creatine, amino acids, and strength training Weight-loss plateaus and when to look deeper Maintenance after reaching your goal Why individualized treatment and follow-up matter The dangers of black- and gray-market peptides The takeaway? There may not be one magic treatment—but finding the right combination for your body can change the entire journey. Longevity Hacks We Actually Do — And the One I'll Never Try.

Everybody's selling longevity. Almost nobody tells you what they actually do at 6am on a Tuesday. In this episode, Dr. Tami O and Gayle Guyardo open up their real routines — the supplements they take, the equipment they bought, the trends they've quietly abandoned, and the one hack sitting in the backyard that Dr. Tami still refuses to get into. We get into why unfiltered coffee can wreck your cholesterol panel (and what's hiding inside your coffee maker), why microdosed GLP-1s changed Dr. Tami's mind after 30 years of skepticism, why most "gluten intolerance" may really be an MTHFR and enriched-flour problem, and why sterilizing your mouth with Listerine may be doing more harm than good. Plus the ones that cost nothing: morning sunlight, grounding, zone 2 cardio, and the community and faith connections that may outperform every supplement on the shelf. What we cover: apple cider vinegar · microdosing GLP-1s · coffee, filters & plastics · cold plunge (and the temperature difference for women) · infrared sauna + red light therapy · wine, glyphosate & the Italian table · meat quality, bone-in & lab-grown · grounding and morning light · sleep, circadian rhythm & blackout shades · sex, Whoop tracking & the case for not knowing · loneliness as a longevity risk · third-party tested supplements, magnesium & creatine · amino acids for muscle preservation on GLP-1s · gluten, MTHFR & folic acid · red light therapy (and how to spot a fake) · heavy lifting after 50 · zone 2 cardio · water flossing & the oral microbiome · the Mediterranean/Nonna diet · rapamycin, metformin & glutathione · exosomes and stem cells This episode is for education and entertainment. It is not medical advice — talk to your own clinician before starting anything discussed here. Peptides, the FDA meeting, China & the Black Market

Episode Description Peptides are back in the spotlight—and the conversation has never been more important. In this episode of the Tampa Bay Total Wellness Podcast, host Tami Oberbroeckling, PA-C, explores the rapidly evolving world of peptide therapy following the FDA advisory committee's recent recommendation to reevaluate several peptides previously removed from compounding. What could this mean for patients, healthcare providers, and the future of personalized medicine? We separate fact from fiction as we discuss what peptides are, how they work, why they've become so popular in longevity and regenerative medicine, and the growing concern over counterfeit and black-market peptide products. From weight loss and hormone optimization to healing, cognitive performance, sexual wellness, and healthy aging, you'll learn why peptides have become one of the most talked-about topics in modern medicine. If you've heard about GLP-1 medications, BPC-157, GHK, MOTS-c, CJC-1295, or other peptide therapies, this episode will help you better understand the science, the regulations, the risks, and the opportunities ahead. Most importantly, we discuss why working with qualified medical professionals and licensed compounding pharmacies is critical to your safety. Whether you're a patient, healthcare provider, or simply interested in optimizing your health, this episode offers an evidence-based, practical discussion on one of today's most important topics in longevity medicine. Subscribe for weekly episodes covering longevity medicine, hormone optimization, functional medicine, medical aesthetics, weight loss, regenerative therapies, and practical strategies to help you look better, feel better, and live longer. 🎙️ Connect With Us If you enjoyed this episode, please follow, subscribe, and leave a 5-star review.
