You can use your phone for video, but you might want to invest in equipment for sound if you are going to spend money. Isolate noise in your surroundings. Turn down air conditioning if possible. Get mic as close as possible to your mouth. Test out your sounds prior to recording. Hum/Hiss for hot gun shoe mic: Turn off auto level. It will look for sound when it is silent so it will bring up level. Small checklist: Create checklists before you start to film to check your focus, exposure, and make sure you are recording. Get external monitor if possible to find your focus. Use a mirror to see back of the camera. Talk to yourself in the video to give yourself editing notes. Talk to "future Steve." "If you are going to do it, do it right." What is the best editing software? Depends on if you want to fingerpaint or Bob Ross it. Final Cut has good audio editor. Premiere wants you to move audio out to Audition. You will always be learning new techniques with the more refined programs. Hank's editing video Steve’s first video was him relaying what took him hours to figured out in Final Cut. Anyone can be a filmmaker/YouTuber. "It's called YOUtube." Use umbrella or box or reflections to create soft light. You are going to mess up, but you should learn from that. - "I'm a happy mistake factory." Advice for trying to reshoot and keep it consistent. Data management - RAID, External Hard Drives, Drive Docs, Backblaze, Prelude Ask Steve Videos If you mess up, own it. Talking about the difference of having an audience when you are on stage or a public speaker and when you are a YouTuber. Letting go of your mistakes. Read manuals for cameras and equipment. Steve discuss tricks of speeding up and slowing down when filming. Have someone on the outside take a look at your content.
