Description of Sermon - Friend, Lend me Bread | Tim Barter

Sermon Series: Stories Jesus Told
Sermon Title: Friend, Lend Me Bread
Bible Passage: Luke 11:1-13 (Focusing on Prayer)
Preacher: Tim Barter
Date: 12th January 2025, 6 pm

In our Stories Jesus Told series, we come to a parable that sheds light on the nature of prayer and the character of God. Tim Barter will lead us through Jesus’ teaching in Friend, Lend Me Bread from Luke 11:1-13, a passage that encourages persistence in prayer and reveals the heart of our generous, loving Father.

Through this parable, Jesus uses the example of a bold and persistent friend knocking at midnight to remind us that we are invited to approach God with confidence, persistence, and faith. Prayer is not about overcoming God's reluctance but trusting in His readiness to provide for His children.

At the centre of this teaching is the gospel—the good news that because of Jesus, we are no longer distant strangers but beloved children of God. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus removed the barrier of sin that separated us from God. Now, we can come to the Father boldly, knowing He hears us, cares for us, and delights in giving us not only what we need but ultimately the greatest gift of all: Himself, through the Holy Spirit.

This sermon will encourage you to reflect on the privilege of prayer, grow in trust in God’s goodness, and deepen your reliance on Him. Join us as we explore how the gospel transforms prayer from a duty to a joy and reminds us of the unshakable relationship we have with our Father in Heaven.
