Description of Sermon - Practice What You Preach - Romans 2:17-29

Sermon Series: Romans (Heaven Sent)
Sermon Title: Practice What You Preach
Bible Passage: Romans 2:17–29
Preacher: Ian Morrison
Date: 9th March 2025, 9:30 am
In this week’s message from our Romans (Heaven Sent) series, Ian Morrison will unpack Romans 2:17–29 in a sermon titled Practice What You Preach. In these verses, Paul speaks directly to those who have confidence in their religious identity and knowledge of God’s law yet fail to live it out. His words expose the danger of outward religion without inward transformation.
Paul’s challenge is clear: having God’s Word and teaching others is not enough—we are called to live in humble obedience, not hypocrisy. The true mark of belonging to God is not external, but internal—a heart changed by the Spirit, not merely by rules or rituals.
This convicting passage prepares our hearts to grasp the beauty of the gospel. It shows us that we can’t earn God’s approval by outward performance or religious heritage. Instead, salvation comes through Jesus Christ, who fulfilled the law perfectly and offered Himself as a sacrifice for sinners—hypocrites and lawbreakers alike. Through faith in Him, we receive new hearts, shaped by grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live for God.
Join us as we reflect on what it means to truly belong to God—not by pretending or performing but by trusting in Christ and walking in step with the Spirit. The gospel doesn’t just call us to preach the truth—it changes us so we can practice it.
