Description of Sermon - The Moral High Ground - Romans 2:1-16

Sermon Series: Romans (Heaven Sent)
Sermon Title: The Moral High Ground
Bible Passage: Romans 2:1-16
Preacher: Robin Vonk
Date: 2nd March 2025, 9:30 am
In our Romans (Heaven Sent) series, Robin Vonk will take us through Romans 2:1-16, a passage that challenges those who believe they stand on The Moral High Ground. Paul turns his attention to those who judge others while failing to recognize their own sin, warning that God’s judgment is based on truth, not outward appearances or self-righteous comparisons.
This passage reminds us that no one is exempt from God’s standard of righteousness. Whether we are openly rebellious or outwardly moral, we all fall short. We may attempt to justify ourselves by pointing to the failures of others, but God sees our hearts. Paul makes it clear: God's judgment is fair, and His kindness is meant to lead us to repentance, not to fuel pride.
But in this warning, we also find the gospel. The good news is that we are not left to face God’s judgment alone. Jesus Christ, the only truly righteous one, took upon Himself the penalty for our sin. Through His death and resurrection, He offers us salvation—not based on our own moral efforts, but by grace through faith.
This sermon will challenge us to move beyond self-righteousness and humbly receive the mercy of Christ. It will remind us that we don’t stand before God based on our own goodness, but on the righteousness of Jesus. Join us as we explore how the gospel sets us free from both judgmental pride and guilt, leading us to a life of true repentance and grace-filled living.
