LM, Episode 572, 6/25/21, The Lord Helps Those Who Help Themselves.
My aunt Maxine got mad at me years ago because I wouldn’t bail her out of jail. Defiantly, she exclaims, “Fine, Jesus will bail me out.”
“Yeah, not unless Jesus has a thousand bucks, he won’t.” Apparently Jesus was short on cash because Maxine sat there until my Uncle Calvin bailed her out.
Last week my Aunt Myrna passed away unexpectedly. Twyla, my parents, my brother, Michael, and his wife, Ruth, and I have all been vaccinated, so we returned to Missouri for the funeral. There were many attending who weren’t vaccinated and only two people were wearing a mask. Two days later the minister, Myrna’s husband, son, and grandson all came down with Covid.
Last week I heard Steve Edwards with Cox Healthcare in Springfield, MO on the radio. He said many in the large evangelical community aren’t getting vaccinated and it is causing their current Covid outbreak. He said the number one emotion sick people in the hospital have is regret for not having gotten the vaccine..
One of the people who caught Covid at the funeral was my dad. He spent two days in the hospital, including Father’s Day, but the doctor said his case was mild and having gotten the vaccine saved his life. Please, take it from Maxine, the Lord helps those who help themselves, get vaccinated. It can save your life and save you from feeling the regret so many feel when they get sick. Laughter matters, but I’m not sure it can heal a broken heart.
