Fossum discusses CRDVTF and his first year as County attorney The Cannon River Drug and Violent offender Task Force became fully staffed this year. Rice County attorney John Fossum said they’re very busy, having a hard time keeping up with all the tips. “They do an excellent job”. And, in fact, last week they arrested 2 drugs offenders at St. Olaf College and aided in the federal arrest of a Northfield man charged with owning a modified machine gun. You can text an anonymous tip to the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, text the word RICECO plus your tip to 847411. Fossum has now been Rice County attorney for nearly a year and it’s been a full one. “We’ve made some changes in the way we handle case loads. We’ve made some changes in the way we look at things and everybody seems to be committed to doing good work”. He says he’s excited about what the future holds for the office. Nfld and Faribault form Cannon Valley Special Ed Coop After the collaboration of school districts for special education opportunities fell through, Northfield Superintendent Chris Richardson says they’re close to another solution, a more collaborative relationship with Faribault called the Cannon Valley Special Education Cooperative. Northfield and Faribault will be the two members of the coop with a portion of the program setting in Faribault and a portion in Northfield. They’re down to 2 facilities they’re looking at in Northfield not on school property. They’ll need to do some renovations of restrooms and spaces to fit best the students needs. Richardson said this will still be more efficient that what they have now. The new cooperative should be ready for the 2016/17 school year. Richardson had his evaluation by the School Board last week. He said “the board was extremely kind” he received a very good evaluation for the 2014 school year. Richardson said the Board is a great group to work with. Richardson will also be honored with a lifetime achievement award next month in Duluth.
