In this episode, Sophia is joined by Alex McRobs who is the owner of The Mindful Life Practice and host of Sober Yoga Girl podcast. She is a certified life coach and a 500-hour registered yoga teacher. When she went sober, she connected with others online, which, during the pandemic, evolved into the sober yoga community. She now also runs yoga retreats across the world.
Alex explains what made her decide to go sober and why giving up alcohol turned out to be harder than she had anticipated. Sharing how she coped with the withdrawal symptoms, the role yoga has helped her with her journey and finding the courage to give up teaching to go and pursue her dream.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
In some cultures, drinking heavily is the norm, making it easy to get addicted to alcohol without realizing it is happening.
Getting sober brings many benefits. When Alex did it everything else started to click into place.
How long it takes to get sober varies, which is why Alex offers 30, 60, and 108-day yoga challenges and recovery programs.
Very few of us are living our dream, we tend to try to make what we have work.
Traveling and living in other countries helps you to be more open-minded, compassionate, and empathetic.
BEST MOMENTS
‘I had really serious depression a couple of years before and my withdrawal from alcohol was almost as bad as that.’
