TEXT: HEBREWS 10:16-23
16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
This (unidentified) writer was speaking to the Hebrews which needed to know about Christ, and what His purpose was. To know how Jesus is the “Safe House” to those fleeing persecution, sin, etc. Places that are mankind’s spiritual choices are: 1) Outside in the cold, on a dark and stormy night in sin. 2) Door (or movement) to the “Safe House from sin. 3) Inside the Safe House. 4) A “movement” back to the cold and dark outside. We will find ourselves somewhere here, one of these 4 places, and hopefully it will be in the freedom of the Safe House. All of these places involve movement. It will involve our choice, and decision, of freedom, ..or.. back toward bondage. It will involve either the presence, or absence of Faith in the movement.
The presence of Faith is, and will be, a movement to the Safe House of freedom. The absence of Faith, will be a movement back to the cold outside of this refuge, back into bondage. The bondage of sin! Verse 19; Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,.” Through the Door, Jesus Christ! Can you see the movement expressed here? The holy place, was a place for an offering, to obtain a “communion with God.” It all involved “movement.” This verse (19) defines that Jesus has become the Door, the means of “entrance.” Or movement for entrance. Now available to us! (Verse 20), We’re no longer separated by that veil! Christ’s flesh, and blood, becomes the vehicle by which we enter that holy place, …or our “Safe House.” A holy communion with God! The brokenness, or sacrifice of what that represents, to bring us into the presence of God, …the holiest place! The Safe House! The presence of God coming down to all involved, that would become a movement to the Safe House….Jesus Christ! The blood of Jesus carries into the presence of God, who became the High Priest. Faith is that movement, that carries us there!
In Matthew 15:11-32, is the account of the prodigal son, returning to the Safe House of his Father. This younger son had left the Safe House, (a movement), into the cold dark stormy night of sin. He had sought something alluring that did not exist in safety. Not in a Safe House. It took the element of the cold dark night of sin, to make him more aware of his need to move back toward the Safe House of his Father’s presence of love and redemption! He had had it, prior! He had left it, a movement into the cold outside darkness of sin. Likewise, each of us have those same choices. To move to the outside of what seems alluring, but actually the cold darkness of sin. Or, to walk toward (movement), to the Safe House of God’s deliverance from sin, through Faith.
The Safe House……
