[Listen to the episode for the full effect ;] On the human level, feeling like your heart is broken is very upsetting. We’ve all been there to some degree. It IS a real experience, and perhaps it’s actually a blessing to go through it… You may not be happy or satisfied with Chris’s comments on this topic. If you are going through something like this currently, feeling like you have a broken heart, some of what I say will be logical and your mind will understand logically, but your emotions will absolutely not accept it. Here’s the definition of unrequited: (of a feeling, especially love) not returned or reciprocated. “Expect not, for thou shalt be disappointed.” If you’re expecting something back it’s not love – it’s a transaction. Does the sun ever say, “You know, after sustaining you humans for millions of years, you have given me nothing back, so now I’m gonna shut myself down?” A person feels a broken heart due to selfish desire (ego). To step back and make an important distinction: Worldly love is not love, it is affection. It is natural to feel the need for human companionship, in the form of a mate, a family, friends, etc. Marriage today is almost always a transaction between two people. “If I’m not receiving what I believe is owed to me, I’m gone.” Modern humans are spiritual weaklings – not able to follow through on what their heart knows is right. A broken heart is when we mistake carnal love for divine love, and fool ourselves into thinking that because our 5 senses and our desires are satisfied by a significant other for a while, that means it’s true love. Perspective: Everything has it’s place in life, but when we give undue importance to things that are relatively less important, we end up disappointed. Now on the other hand, divine love, spiritual love is eternal, it is always flowing in us, around us and through us. And something happens when you focus on divine love, and begin to find it inside yourself after some period of meditation and spiritual practice – the fleetingness of carnal love is understood. Big picture – this lifetime for you is but a blink in relation to your existence. Remember, this show is all about you going beyond what you currently believe and understand about spirituality. Logically, how do you know it’s not a blessing to lose that relationship? If you’re truthful, you’ll admit that you don’t know. Nature gives us the situations we NEED to grow spiritually. Pain is something we have to learn to handle – by looking beyond it! If you truly love someone, beyond the ego level of desire and fear, you may feel their absence occasionally but when you remember them you won’t have any emotional effect. LOVE = no expectation, no idea of I or mine, no fear of loss and no concept of loss or gain. Listen to the full episode for all the details.
